Dispatchers are the voice of calm in the storm. On a yearly basis APD Dispatchers answer approximately 500,000 calls. On average 195,000 are 9-1-1 calls. Each Dispatcher will process 80-100 calls per day, never knowing what they will get when they answer. Often dispatchers are challenged with gathering information from evasive callers, hostile callers, or people who are experiencing the most traumatic encounter of their lives. But they continue to strive to gather the most information they can to provide to responding Officers so they can be as prepared as possible for the calls they are handling.
