Seen a lot of sketchy homebrew ebikes in dallas, as a bike builder those are the ones i worry most about. Everyone wants to go fast no one thinks about braking fast.
For safety, remember to *stop prioritizing cars in 99% of our infrastructure* and look to cities where walking and cycling are popular means of transportation to understand what infrastructure we should have!
I’ll do my best to stay visible but how about you guys get out there and make sure the cars pay attention? I understand the sentiment, but it comes off as really tone deaf when “law enforcement” is telling you how to be safe around “law breakers”.
I have the same model of bike but I've been too nervous to ride it because of the speed and weight, so I still just ride my conventional bike to work. Lol, so much for the ebike making my commute easier. The hi-vis vest is a good tip
I think riding it recreationally and getting used to how it handles, accelerates and brakes will help you. When I got my first motorbike, 30mph felt insanely fast and made me really tense. But I stuck to my local roads, went out when there was minimal traffic, doing everything consciously and safely. In just a few months I was capable of doing 200+miles in one day on 70mph roads.
Bicyclists and motorcyclist gotta be incredibly careful because the people who drive two or four door cars are allowed to drive as oblivious as they want. Great!
In OC e bikes are banned on all unpaved trails in parks…. And depending on the class you can’t even ride them on any bike path. This is just false information.
Lol, the constitution says you can ride motor driven bicycles (or vehicles in general) on privately controlled land in any way regardless of what's posted as being the rules for private land? Hmmmm I wonder why no trespassing signs even exist if I can just use an electric bicycle to legally circumvent them.
well many states have rules that say if it has an Electric ONLY mode then it is a MOPED and needs to be licensed... Now are the police and people uninformed of this or just dont bother to figure it out is another question. Unlikely to cause issue currently but maybe in the future. So out side of Anaheim check your local laws.
Bud, that's an electric motorcycle. An electric bicycle will still have pedals to use. If you give a bicycle some kind of motor, electric or ICE, and take away pedals and give it little teeny tiny footrests to help control weight and direction of the bike, ... what do you have? A motorcycle.

This is something every citizen needs to go through. Officers have to make a split second decision in these types of scenarios... That's why we go through this type of training every year... Because it IS life and death... Every day... And I know because before my injury I was an officer for almost 15 years. And I remember ALOT of these scenarios because I went through them...
