I'm guessing that it's either EA is part of the shut down as they are making sure to shut down most competitors like this game for their new Clone Wars updates or else, a more reasonable answer could be that LucasFilm are shutting it down due to copyright issues as said by them in a letter to Poem Studios.

F**k EA, f**k disney. They can invite/support this guys and then sell this masterpiece, i'd buy this, instead of destroy this project just "cuz they can".

I'd also have bought it. It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that EA show no interest in creating a single player Star Wars RPG themselves.

sigh EA, I used to defend them but they just love to shoot themselves over and over and it is impossible at this point. On the bright side the exclusive deal runs out soon so maybe we might get some good games elsewhere. **edit also at this point I'm kind of shocked EA has only really delivered 2 games..... It's not a game, it's a mod... well technically speaking it's a game, but technically speaking it's also a mod. You will need to own the original KOTOR to be able to play this, but this is made on a completely different engine basically from a scratch, so it's a game, but it's a mod. Hopefully this is enough to make Disney & EA fuck off.

Sammy Salgado uh yes they can. A company can take down anything they want when it relates to their properties, especially if they use the same voice and sound files which have copyright on them.

Activision took down a vampire masquerade remaster mod a few days ago.

If they try I say a revolt should start to take the Star Wars license from Disney. Have it be made a public domain property, like the Brothers Grimm fairytales.

And make no mistake, Star Wars is the private property of Disney. The Brothers Grimm stories are in the public domain because they are old as hell and so their copyright has long expired. But even still, it would be a completely different story if an estate was maintaining the copyright, as is the case with many old collections.

Dialogue will be the same. Yavin is just going to be a few side quests that have their own mini stories that do not effect the main story in anyway.

It's the same content plus some bonus. Like as I understand they are digging info from files so there could be a cut quest added on Taris for example. Plus they're adding stuff on their own like Yavin IV

Wes C it depends if they're attempting to make money off of it. If it's purely a fan made game then nothing can be done, but if it's monetized then it'd be shut down in 30 seconds.

If Disney or EA believe this will have a negative impact on their sales in any way, it will be shut down. Even from a "No, WE own the IP and the rights" standpoint, they'll say no just to keep it all to themselves. The best thing to do is, honestly, keep it hush hush from here on out until it is ready for release, and then release it. It will still get a cease and desist letter, but once it is out there the community will be able to keep it floating around.

That's patently untrue - it's not a mod - this project was made in UE4 and Kotor was in the Odyssey engine - but that aside, the only thing the team said it would check for is about 140 MB of sound files. There's no executable in there or even a checksum to ensure that one has legitimately acquired those files. You wouldn't even need to pirate the whole game to use this - just have someone share those files with you, and that's it

I honestly would love if they stayed with the original style gameplay but add more moves and such, and maybe rebalance it so its not just spam the same move(flurry) over and over.

I think it is weird to have that kind of combat with a first person perspective, but I also think it is more fitting to the game. So I agree. And since this is supposed to be a mod I don’t know if they can even rewrite the combat system.

I don't really see the conversion from turn based to live combat in this kind of title. The enemies in turn based system can be bulletspongy, if they make it live action then the combat should be 10 times faster. I didn't enjoy the turn based combat when I was a kid while playing this game, but now I appreciate it. My only wish is for it to be better balanced so I don't feel like any ability is inherently OP. I haven't felt that way in KOTOR 1, but I did in 2, which I completed as a gray jedi more or less. Force Lightning seemed to be an easy way through the game when I tested it on some side characters. If they make the live action combat feel right then I won't mind it, but I doubt it. If they did then KOTOR would be the best game ever made with this "mod", basically combining in-depth saber combat of Jedi Knight with badass world, characters, story, music, well, fucking everything is basically awesome about this game... except glitches and perhaps combat and the space suit levels.

Thiago Leão if it's being made on s different engine they could pretty much do the combat however they want. I agree that turn based combat would be kinda off in a first person game though so I personally hope they go real time with the combat.

The last I had heard was they they were planning on having gameplay kind of work both ways. Either turn base or in real time. But idk, I heard it from a second hand source a while ago.

I definitely have mixed feelings about that. There are like 5 different remakes by modders that just keep showing trailers or get canned due to copyright. I'm not gonna get excited about any of them until something gets released.

I'd gladly wait until 2022 if it was finished & done right. We won't see a game approaching KotOR or other standards from EA any time soon.

Not but really though, this is a different company's game, and as someone who has watched these modders stream, they are pretty dedicated to getting this finished. Obviously it's just going to take a long time though because they are doing this on their own time for free.

Commander Shepard This has been a well known project for a few years now. There’s no way in hell that they don’t know about it. We’re not talking about Nintendo here. Besides, a legit copy of the game is required for the mod to function. Which would prevent the assets that would get the mod shut down from being contained within the mod so it shouldn’t be a repeat of the Fallout 3 in Fallout 4 fiasco.
