I like the new see through feeder design. ..hope they add the feeder ladders to the inside of the feeder like the entrance of the feeder. ...,rough sides of frames to give better frame grabbing would be nice too.

Both of our apimaye hives wintered fine. I noticed that the bees are a little slower getting going in the mornings. My guess is that it takes a little longer to start warming up.

Absolutely love the flexibility and built in features of the hive but $$$ expensive especially for someone just getting into beekeeping.

Yeah, but it comes with so many things that normally you need as add ons. Well, many will never use the pollen trap, but still.

The price on those just skyrocketed just like wood prices have. Government mismanagement has everything going up. Yes they are pricey but thankfully I got mine back in Nov.

Started last year with an Apimaye hive ... our bees overwintered just fine, although I did take the extra step of building a 1" foam box to put over the hive for added insulation. Also taped off the vents in the bottom board. We had a week of arctic blast here in NW MT with a few nights well below zero ... but it was pretty cool to go and stick my ear against the vent opening and hear the reassuring drone of the bees in there. Just ordered a 2nd setup and adding another package here in May.

@@thehiveandthehoneybee9547 no, but it looks interesting and I think it could work given how well-insulated these Apimaye hives are. Maybe something to think about for when our colonies are more robust.

I started with their 7 frame nuc 3 years ago. The only thing I would change is that I think the brood chamber should be attached to the bottom board with latches. Not permanently. There have been plenty of times I would have liked to be able to tip it back to do a quick noninvasive assesment.

How will the hives be treated with acilic acid with so many areas where air can pass through the hive...ie top vent holes and the tray is vented???

I’m curious about them. I fell for the Flow and wish I never spent the cash on it. The Apimaye seem to more functional though so I’m super curious.

We lost 2 colony for this hive, somehow the bee don't like it. So we thoroughly washed several times, and the bees stay

What was your experience keeping the wax and propolis cleaned on these? Also your thoughts on resistance to animal chewing such as raccoons or opossums.

Locked bears are said to not be able to get into these things. I used mostly wood frames and didn't notice any difference in propolis or wax issues

I agree that wood is a lot of work but compared to all that plastic !!!! And white why not brown or something more natural, looks like a ice chest 🤔, bees don't die from cold weather but from humidity .

Kamon. I’m new at bees. Only have 1 hive. Last Thursday they were loaded with bees and very chill in my top box I started worrying that they might swarm so I felt today I needed to get into the bottom box and check for queen cells. They lit me up like a Christmas tree with a suit and gloves on. 6-7 stings even with all that protection. Why would their demeanor change so quickly?

These look really nice and well thought out but the price point is a tough pill to swallow. Have you seen anything in the documentation concerning warranty? I didn't see anything on their website but I only looked for a couple minutes. I know wooden hives will eventually fail but I can buy a lot of woodenware for the cost of Apimaye. I hope they work out well for you. It looks like testing various methods of beekeeping would be much easier. RTR

Hey. Have a question about the apimaye hive. How do you clear out the dead bees that build up in the winter at the bottom of the board? The entrance doesn’t allow you to simply pull them out

Dang that stuff is pricey! That stack behind you is about $10k according to their website (assuming you got two deeps and honey supers in the kit). Frames extra. You can get other poly hives for a fraction of that cost. This is the BMW of beekeeping for sure. I would be a single beekeeper with no home or bank account after divorce if I bought those. ;)

Sweet, I kind of stopped following along Kamon, sorry about that...just so many hours in a day. Still subbed though. I need to go back and look for updates on the one you had last year. I'm a big fan of plastic hives, been using them for years but a different brand. These look pretty nice, I was impressed with the one you had last year. Nice features in them, I've seen them for years just never sprung for the cost of them. I may try a couple this year though. Bees are doing well here so far.

If you have a queen less starter I would hit them right after I pull the cells out. If you have alot of brood i would treat them after every cell pull if you think the mites are high

Just rotate your frames in the boxes, at least that's what I am going to do.

That is one feature that is kind of problematic. However, many after they have multiple boxes of comb just run single brood chamber with the excluders

I don't know for sure but I would say quite a while. It definitely isn't made cheap. Maybe 10 years I don't know. What I have shows no signs of wear in a year

@@thehiveandthehoneybee9547 Personally I am neither for or against apimaye. I overwintered nearly 300 colonies without insulation and they look great. I think it comes down to a personal choice. At the price they are I definitely would dip my toe in the water so to speak first or sit back and watch all of these perform this year. Healthy clusters will get it done though in both setups.

Hows it going sir I like your RU-vid channel I support you I have a question about wax do you mix 12 60 product in 57 15 or you just use one 12 60 because a person told me 12 60 is better please help me out.

I use both products 1260-5715 and try to keep it at 50% of each for wax dipping boxes. One is paraffin the other micro crystalline. There are some who don't use both. I prefer both as the micro crystalline is tougher and on the atomic scale is multi chained which helps it stay in the wood nicely.

I dont think bees keep the frames where we want them, i have opened tops and had rather perfect in position come back a couple weeks later they had the frames pushed out of alignment yeah bees will do that so i am going to run 10 frames in bottom brood box and or even the second brood box but from there up am going to used 9 frames spacing. Seams as though they like it clustered up in the bottom with some expansion in the upper boxes, timing and bee space is not my choice it, is there timing and space i just have to get on the fast track bee train. The bees are training me!!

The cost is the only negative I have really found. The, bees brood earlier and are less stressed out in the hot summer. I have very healthy bees in wood boxes too though but there is nothing wrong with an Apimaye and it does help the bees out. Well made and love the pollen trap

@@kamonreynolds thanks…been watching your channel off and on for years…did bees near 10 years ago…1 nuc to 1 deep 10 frame brood & super plus 3-5 more deep broods in less than 6 months. 2nd time i tried my farm & bees i think I got bees from OKC that you alogot some from…2 nucs…1 was beatle infested and not saveable…I think I gave that attempt less than a month but changed the nuc to double deep 10 frames & after almost 2 years I’ve returned to try a final 3rd time…adding syrup on warm days and pollen every couple weeks but yet to give the hive a good look over…no time & too cold. Im uploading videos of progress as i can..but its rough building a farm. Your channel is the best for beekeepers new & old….thanks

It’s like a yeti cooler, they are great but do you really want to spend the money on it and not make any money off your bees for a few years? Maybe it makes sense long term though. Less time managing bees, better survival, possibly better honey production. Time will tell. Lucky man. Ha
