An ignorant and uninformative film at best. From a self-righteous Mel who felt an expert in everything, just for playing and directing braverhart. Feeling an expert on this fucking thing, he thought it would be easy to make a movie about the Aztecs
You can watch this movie multiple times and still feel that adrenaline and your chest tighten which only proves this is a masterpiece of filmmaking. I will defend this film forever.
This scene is so sad and adrenaline pumping at the same time. I remember I was 20 when this came out. I love it today just as much as I loved it back then. It was so creative and ahead of its time. An eternal classic!
This tall guy who grabbed the finisher's leg... He was a man of a big heart and a pure soul. It was shown at the beginning of the film how his whole native village was laughing at him. Nevertheless, knowing that he would die anyway, he still helped his fellow tribesman. And because of this, his death is ten times more tragic.
True! The actor playing the character is a Canadian Native American. I read an interview with him years ago and the guy mentioned many people were asking him about the animal testicles he eats at the beginning of the movie. They were made of rubber. :P
...laughing at him Yes but not in the bad harassing way.Laugh with somene is also a well established bond sign and a joyuable form of friendship. It depends haow when and between wom id happening a situation like this.
@@ALXD1974 ya they were publicly harassing him for his infertility in front of the whole village when he reached out to them for help. Just jokes between mates
@@digiblak997 On that front I don't disagree.... I was highly entertained by the movie. I just detest pointless historical inaccuracy. Whether the movie is "good" or not, is an opinion. I liked it. I'm sure there are many that don't. It would have been even better if they just used real history, no change to the story needed. Just a "reality check".
@Alex Phoenix I remember watching the movie and seeing the small pox and saying ok so we're post Spanish arrival..... and then got to the end and was pretty confused. But good story
It’s really heartbreaking at 4:37 that he sacrificed himself so that Jaguar Paw could escape, just go to show you he managed to help out his buddy until the very end
I came across Apocalypto by accident channel-surfing one night and I was absolutely stunned by the imagery. One of those movies that make you realise just how average and unoriginal most movies are. Brilliant.
When I first saw this movie, it was on Satellite. This was the scene it was on, and I couldn't stop watching. I was glued to the screen. I later watched the entire movie, and now I own the DVD. It was SO satisfying when all of the crazy bad guys got what they had coming. Lots of great actors.
I tend to agree with you........one night I decided to give this a try and was EXTREMELY pleasantly surprised and I didn't fall asleep on it.........although, its somewhat predictable, its still a pretty darn good watch.......I agree, if you haven't watched definitely give it a go!
@Handrick PetersenWow, just goes to show how people have different tastes. I thought it was a great movie. Out of curiosity, what would be in your top 5?
Acting is good.... there isn't much accurate about the period the show is set in though.... so don't look to this as a illustration of the actual Mayans. :)
@@alexphoenix9208 It's a movie. Not an actual documentary. They are allowed to edit and change certain things to make it more appealing and entertaining to the audience. Some facts and fiction mixed.
@@oliatonn You said: "not an expert but I would say they were portraying aztecs, not mayans" ~ And I would agree with you, except that every source of information I looked up surrounding the origin of the movie, says they choose the Mayans over the Aztecs, because of the pre-European issue.... with makes the "smallpox" thing even more erroneous. It really shouldn't be that hard to get details right if you're going to create a movie set in an historical time. Not enough people will go to "learn more". Most will just take this as "fact". We wonder why we have such a problem with disinformation today.... :/ Still... great chase and action movie, piss-poor history.
Great movie by Mel Gibson, he nailed It close to the way the aztecas ruled North América AND central América. The movie focused on any of the tribes in this case the mayans being ruled by the Aztecas which was the Romans of their Time.
@@kittygirl_thetortie498 Being conflicted over the damaged the colonisation did to indigenous cultures in Latin America but also thinking that if the culture was that f'd up before they arrived they probably needed it. There's a middle ground I think which is the endogenous cultures learning about better ways to live from outsiders without millions of Europeans coming to their lands. I feel the same way about unregulated immigration to Europe. It's a somewhat complicated issue.
@@superx9619 we are "bleeding" without notice, at least they here real and not like us, pretending in our hedonistic, comoditized and sanitized perception of reality.
This my favorite movie. I introduced this to many many people. I remember when very few people knew about this movie. So glad it finally getting attention 😢
How... How the fuck are you guys not understanding this comment? HE SAW IT IN THE THEATRES WHEN IT WAS RUNNING AND THE CROWD WAS HYPED UP DURING THIS SCENE YOU FUCKING MONGS
I finished the movie about 10 minutes ago and...I was like "What, Mel made this masterpiece?!" 😂 This was intense, gruesome (I closed my eyes all the time, it was too graphic) and touching. I have never seen a movie like this before...it actually felt so real for some reason. One of the most well made movies ever, amazing actors. There will be no need for a remake for this one because it felt like this was made in 2020 or something. Amazing. Good job Mel Gibson!
I have watched this movie so many times now, I no longer bother with the subtitles. They do a fantastic job of conveying exactly what they are thinking and saying. My favorite line is Olak (almost)
One of my favorite films of all time. It's aged beautifully and you feel like you are running through the forest with Jaguar Paw. The ending will give you chills.
This scene is very close to how I escaped from a girlfriend who was after my welfare check in South Central. XLNT job Mel! The making of this movie is even better.
This realistic and frightening section in this movie, is more adrenaline pumping and fear inducing than any other film I have seen since. Totally brilliant acting and production!
We watched it in class in History around a month ago. Absolutely amazing movie. I usually only really enjoy Modern History and such Movies, but this one was different.
The masterpiece my favorite movie No 1, best movie i ever watched in my life is Apocalypto by Mel Gibson the best movie director i ever sein sir i never get tired of watching this movie 2022 am still watching it. congrats to you guys for your great work.
If released today it would be attacked by SJW's for being racist. Because it doesn't buy into the Howard Zinn narrative that the natives were just peace-pipe smoking hippies in a commune.
Due to my baby brother, I first heard of and watched this movie back in 2010..It has placed itself on my favorite of all time list.. I was 23 and my baby brother was 18 at the time..I truly enjoy this movie
@@randomtactician6290 Someone watched that youtube video about how historically accurate Apocalypto is. Its a drama movie, not a historical epic - it doesn't matter
@@shosc16 It does matter. It’s about history. If he didn’t want to make a video about history, he didn’t have to. You can make a historically accurate good movie, look at Waterloo for example.
4:35 he was the dude that the whole village play pranks on, tricked him into eating pig nuts, to then having him spread peepers on his nuts , and bro still kept his loyalty till the end, solid 💯
@@JRcalifornia You need to read about the Spanish invasions because they were FAR from boring. Some of the most horrible chapters of human history, but very interesting to read about. Especially Cortez.
This whole movie is an unique experience; it scores high in every dept …MG is a great visualiser…..thanks MG for giving us such an enriching cinematic experience
I find ancient American weapons more scary than any gun or steel blade. They're so crude and blunt, I can't imagine the sort of pain they would have caused.
This is definitely one of the most brutal movies in it’s time and I know we’ll never get another movie like this again. With the exception of the brutality off The Northman and or The Last Duel
I agree but the brutality (and historical era) reflects the Aztecs more. I’m assuming Gibson just really liked the Mayan language because Aztecs were the ones who were at their height in the late 1400’s and early 1500’s. The Last Duel was more accurate because it’s based off an actual historical book while The Northman is just Viking Hamlet.
That scene after he takes the spear out of his body and the other spear comes flying into the picture is so intense. Probably cgi, but what an incredible shot.
5:42 I love the realism of this part, in movies it is not very common to see how someone whose throat was cut really drowns in movies when someone gets their throat slit dies instantly hahaha.- great performance, I love the fear on his face
That guy is the observant one. He’s the same guy that figured out Jaguar Paw was hiding in a tree while the rest of them kept running mindlessly around the jungle
One of the most unforgettable movies of all time, I recommend everyone to watch it. There is a scene about consciousness it not elaborate you have to catch it.
5:00 Turing point of one of the greatest underated movie ever made. If only they had run *zizag* , most of the would have been alive or just mearly injured instead of the hero barely making it out alive. That's why using the brain is important.
I have to say, regardless of what some might think, this to me, is one of the best movies I've ever seen and I would highly recommend it to anyone....it has a lot of stuff going on it and its somewhat historical although it is fiction, nevertheless, its got many interesting socioeconomic themes that occurred between tribes.......
Great movie--a lot of true bravery for self, country (people), family, honor. This movie had so many selfless many acts of heroism. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
I went into this movie without ever seeing a trailer or knowing anything about it. It was the second movie I had seen that day. We had paid for the first one which I can’t even remember what it was and snuck into this one from the beginning. It really surprised us and was amazing
