That's great to hear! 🙂 We're 5 weeks in and we're loving it as well. I wish they had a kindergarten level so I could use it for my upcoming kindergartener.
So did you decide to stick with apologia math for your daughters level 3? Also what math did you use for her before apologia? Now that you have used apologia a whole grade level what are some things you dont like about it if any? And how much time are you as the teacher spending each day on this math?
Hey! Yes. We're sticking with it. We used TG&TB. There isn't anything I don't like about it. It takes no more than 20-30 minutes. Towards the end I was spending less than 10 because my daughter was able to read it herself and go through the lesson.
You mentioned you use math facts that stick WITH apologia Math, would like to know why did you choose Apologia instead of just using math with confidence (full curriculum from the author of MFTS). I’ve been looking at both. Also, I saw a video from ‘simply learning together’ YT channel and she does like an interactive notebook with all the cutouts from Apologia. It looks like a good idea to do that. Thanks for sharing!
Hey, Great point. Even if I used Math with Confidence level 2 I still would have to use Addition Facts That Stick because of the level my daughter is on. We used a different curriculum before this one and it didn't do a good job with math facts. I went with Apologia because we like the hands on activities and manipulatives before each lesson. Addition Facts That Stick is not needed. Apologia gives notes on how to review the addition facts with games and flashcards. I liked AFTS approach in relationship to the ten frame and I felt like my daughter didn't get a good grasp of it from our previous curriculum. I hope this helps with making your decision! I think that's great that another homeschool mom started a notebook. It's cool to see how different people use the same curriculum. If I'm not mistaken, she's using level 4 so the activities I have are a bit different being as though we're using level 2. I'll be sure to keep that in mind as we move along in level. 😉
How do you like Addition Facts That Stick. My niece is dyslexic and in public school. Since I Nanny for her. I wanted to see if I could use it. For short activities with her.
How long does a lesson take ? Is very teacher intensive ? Thinking of switching to apologia for 3rd grade. I really like the samples I looked at online but im a little worried it may be too teacher intensive for this season of life in my household right now.
It's written to the child BUT It depends on your child's reading level, motivation, and degree in which they understand math. I'm not sure how level 3 will be but for level 2, especially the beginning, it's been teacher intensive. Now that we're finishing up, I've been able to start her off and let her continue on her own.
