Good appendix gun carry is not as easy as pairing any gun with a stock holster. ➡️There are a number of reasons why you are encountering annoying problems like the back of the gun sticking out.
People often give up on appendix carry for a few very common issues. Issues that could be avoided if you pick the right gear from the start.
➡️ These are the things I wish I knew about when I started carrying in AIWB.
In this video I’ll talk through all of the variables that you need to consider in order to get it right.
Spoiler: It’s a combination of the gun, the holster and your body type as well! Many people think the smallest gun combined with a really short holster would be the best way but realise later that it might actually be better the other way around.

Spot on brother. I actually trimmed some holsters shorter and found they worked worse just as you point out. For AIWB length in holster is critically important to provide stability on the belt line and prevent the rig from pressing outward.

I wear a JM Custom Wingclaw and really do like it. You are so right about having a long for slide holster. That really makes a big difference in concealability and comfort. I’d never heard of the Graith Specialist before but I did just notice Ernest Langdon wearing this belt. I may have to switch it that belt. Thanks and I would like to see more RU-vid stuff from you. I like that you’re a CZ guy and that you know how have some practical insight into AIWB carry!

Glad it helped! If you like the Wing Claw, check out the new Dark Star Gear "Dark Wing" claw. I replaced all my claws with it. Game. Changer. It should work just fine on your JM (depending on which Wing Claw you have)

I've never heard anyone talk about the importance of the length of a holster. People always talk about wearing baggy clothes, getting a smaller gun, etc. I have an M&P shield 9mm single stack and that thing prints like crazy with the amazon concealment express holster even with some baggier shirts. I've addressed it by buying a claw that they sell separately, but now I can't get a good grip on the draw without scraping my fingers... Great job with the video man!
@b0men
@b0men 4 года назад
Thanks man! Yes holster length is really important especially with smaller guns. The shorter the gun, the more they roll out over the belt. Because of this, you'll want a holster with some extra length. It wont be as cheap as your Amazon one, but something like the Dark Star Gear hitchiker, with a dark wing attachment, will make that gun disappear. Alternatively, you could also try a Raven Vanguard for the shield. Ive had great luck with those making tiny guns totally disappear, although the draw kinda sucks and you cannot reholster into it.
@craziazndude
@craziazndude 4 года назад
@@b0men Would you recommend the hitchhiker over the M&P orion? Just cause the second one seems to be more geared towards M&P shields judging by the name. Thanks for your suggestion!

I agree with you completely. The sub compact holsters always tend to tip away from the body, since there is not enough muzzle in inside the waistband. Ever since you talked about this I run my pistols in longer holsters. I have a Glock 17 and love to run my Glock 26 in it, because the length of the holster prevents the short muzzle gun from ever tipping away from my body in appendix carry.

You got the best appendix carry holster videos imo. I’m looking for a Glock 19 holster. I’m 6’2” 225lb with a little gut lol. I saw you say to get a g34 holster for a 19. What do you prefer your favorite setup. What company/belt attachment/ any pads? Ect. Whatever you reply is what I’ll buy exactly. Plz reply.
@b0men
@b0men 4 года назад
Thank you sir! At your height I would definitely go. Dark Star Gear Orion, G34 Length holster OR G17 length holster with dark wing. A 19 length holster will roll out on you. When deciding between 17 vs 34, it depends on your build. A 34 length will tuck the gun closer to you but MAY jam you in the nuts when you sit down, depending on how your built. Either 17 length or 34 length will work tbh. For a belt, get the Mastermind Tactics Specialist. It used to be called the Graith Specialist - this is like the gold standard in AIWB belts. With this setup, you could easily conceal a g17 as well if you just want more gun. Hope that helps.

Unless you're super short (like 5'2 or less) I'd recommend a 34 length for a 19. I used to use 17 length holster for my 19, but found the 34 length even better, personally. Both in comfort and concealment. But if that sounds too crazy, yes a 17 length is absolutely better than 19 length.

The problem I see with this style of carry is it's fragile and subject to issues like what gun , holster , or clothing the owner will try to use while sticking a loaded " hot " gun down the front of his pants . To many things to go wrong in that world ! Sorry ... Aint gonna try that . Nope !

@cranerigging3604

@@b0men That's a good question . Open carry with a belt & holster comes to mind as the most versatile , simple and safest way . Little or no clothing issues , not sweeping anything with the firearm and easy to pull when needed . That's just me and I realize not everyone has that option or likes it . I like to keep things as simple as can be .
@b0men
@b0men 2 года назад
@@cranerigging3604 I have seen people sweep themselves, from open carry, in multiple shooting competitions and get DQ'd. No carry mode is without risk, which is why I asked that. I've also seen people get clothing or nylon holster straps caught when re-holstering into their OWB rig. All of the above (including with appendix carry) can be addressed via training and proper gear selection.
@cranerigging3604
@cranerigging3604 2 года назад
@@b0men Good points ! With my job it's not practical to carry "on person " so most of the time the firearm & holster will be in a vehicle . What few times I would carry it needs to be simple and low maintenance . Leaning in the direction of a .44 magnum revolver and open carry belt / holster ?
@b0men
@b0men 2 года назад
@@cranerigging3604 I think it really depends on your personal situation. If I was in that situation, I'd rather have a pocket gun that I can 100% conceal on me at all times, versus something in the car. 44 mag is a great caliber for bears and four-legged problems, but is not really what I would choose for two legged problems. BUT it all really depends on your personal situation and needs!

@@b0men again thank you for your reply. I don't have any beef with you, but I'm disappointed that so many appendix carry videos involve a guy standing up with a loose T-shirt. Maybe I'm the only guy that sits down and bends down and actually does stuff besides stand still. I'm tired of my 4 o'clock carry and would love to carry my weapon on the front. So therefore I'm looking for a holster that would do a good job of that. I don't know if any local places where I can try them on. So I'm stuck spending $40-$80 buying stuff on the Internet hoping something will be good. That's why I came to RU-vid, for advice on which one works best for it.
@b0men
@b0men 3 года назад
@@joshuaborem7063 Right but what you're describing is VERY body type dependent. My advice is to look into JM custom Kydex. Review the different holster types and if you're unsure, send them an email with photos of yourself. They can usually help you pick the right rig. No gun in appendix will be as comfortable as not having one there. But trial and error is really the only way to find what works for you. The plus side is - quality holsters are very easy to resell on ebay for almost what you paid for them. Ive done it a lot.
@joshuaborem7063
@joshuaborem7063 3 года назад
@@b0men again thanks for the response. I'll try your suggestions. I've seen only 2-3 videos on YT that do a decent job of what I'm seeking. And two more who specify "longer holsters are best for appendix carry". One guy (skinny Asian guy I think) was saying the gun wil kind of fall into the fold of the hip joint area when sitting/crouching/bending. But he only talked about it. I'm 5'8" and my current holster is about 3" wide at the muzzle- no way could that do it. Sounds gay but I feel like a video of a guy wesring a belt but no pants would show. Of course that's only if it's showing how well that perfect holster fits into the hip joint. Argh- hard to describe. I can't find the right words to type. Im 5'8" with a little bit of a belly and I just want to carry on the front.
