Apple Actually Did It - RCS on iOS and How It Works - iOS 18 bring RCS messaging on iPhone and recently Apple added RCS in the iOS 18 Beta 2 release. RCS messaging or Rich Communication Services is a new standard that brings features such as encryption, read receipts, better group messaging and more. @@djhayes575 Or be mad that android never came up with a solution that was useful. It’s so bad that most people outside of the us use third party messaging services. Not to mention RCS still requires carrier and device support which is severely fragmented.

RCS is still ‘iffy’ at best. From the same person and conversation, some of my messages will show RCS and I get delivered and read receipts while 10 seconds later it swaps to sms and I no longer get visual notifications if anything was sent, delivered, or read

Working well for me on T-Mobile. The read receipts option works, as well as “typing”. Only issue is the reactions.

using iPhone 11 with iOS 18 beta 2 and getting extraordinary battery life, super smooth, no issues at all. getting around 8-9 hours screen on time on an avg. Max I got 10 hrs yesterday and I m using it from 100 to 10% battery daily. Charge it when it reaches 10%. on iOS 17 , i ws getting 4-5 hours. dont know what has happened. but I am loving it. Also one more thing, Battery health is 79% and I bought it on Dec 2019.

Hi Aaron, on the Beta 2, have AT&T as a carrier and live in MD. RCS is not shown as an option. Would love to try this as an option but apparently is not avail on an iPhone 14 Pro Max. Any suggestions?

Feels so great because I chat with my sister DAILY and she has a Samsung. It’s so annoying when I get the notification that she liked a message and now we can send each other messages seamlessly. I use to love my android but moved over to iPhone for the simplicity. I love how they’ve added customizations that are not too over the top but make a big difference. I’m loving iOS 18 on my iPhone 15. Battery life is great and honestly no more overheating!

It definitely seems buggy on my end. It bounces back and forth between RCS and SMS. It collapses my keyboard while I’m in the middle of typing the message when it switches from one to the other.

For group chats, are there features like naming groups, adding group photos, or replying to specific messages? Can you add/remove people from groups without it creating an all new group like with MMS? And if an Android user was removed from a group and the remaining people are iphone, does it change back to iMessage, or continues to be RCS? I feel like a lot of these issues with MMS are one of the bigger reasons for the strong "anti-green bubble" sentiment.

I'm so glad this is finally happening. My partner and so many friends have iPhone. Doing group chats with them between my Samsung phone using Google messages is so bad. Reactions do come through but when an iPhone user reacts it says they reacted to a photo,message or video, it doesn't tag it to the item like it does with other Android devices. Also it's hard to send videos and high quality pics. Having some functionality of RCS on the iPhone will make cross-platform messaging better. It's time Apple did this to make the experience better for their users and everyone.

@@MrMikey1273 Keep you expectations low. RCS is half baked and doesn’t like cross network messaging. I had an Att s22 ultra and it wouldn’t support RCS with T-Mobile users.

@ROBMACDUI that's not been my experience. I've seem RCS work with others using Motorola phones on tracphone and cricket perfectly OK with my Samsung galaxy phones and my old oneplus 7pro on both t-mobile and visible. I know both timed all users were using the Google messages app. That could be because they all use the same RCS profile. I will be testing it out when it's fully released.

But are you able to reply to individual messages? I think that’s the biggest feature I’m concerned about. If you can’t reply back to individual messages, especially in group messages it makes your thread messy.
