34:03 "Unless you have a reason to buy these for noise cancelling there are other options" in a nutshell, tho I listened to all 38 minutes for the entertainment! and to hear the most famous audiophile headphone reviewer talk about perhaps the most eagerly anticipated headphone ever.
@@IdunRedstone Oh I got mine engraved. I am disappointed in its size and placement. Check the sound demo. You will see the engraving in the Unboxing which will come out later.
Practically all tech reviewers make the most boring videos on the planet. Their scripts are written like fucking work emails. No personality. Nothing interesting. This channel, even if the videos are longer than the Silk Road, is more entertaining than mainstream tech by far.
Had these been $350, I would have considered replacing my QC35’s that frankly don’t need replacing, but the ludicrous price given the annoying quirks helped make that decision a ‘no’
Even if I was someone who flys a lot, I probably could get by with the Shivrs or the taotronics. If I wanted good bluetooth headphones I probably would buy the THX Pandas. I don't see the appeal of this product other than a status and or fashion statement.
yeah bose nc was always great, but the rest of the market has sorta caught up, and know you can get a lot more for your money, apple notwithstanding you have to do a lot more to stand out in the market today
@@tarunkumaar625 Just because you don’t see other reasons doesn’t mean other reasons don’t exist. These have provens themselves to be the best pair of noise cancelling wireless headphones on the market. And they’re charging for it. Most people are definitely better off with WH-1000XM4s + AirPods Pro for the SAME price, but if you want the best of each category (I think no one could or should argue thatthe AirPods Pro are the best in ear noise cancelling wireless earbuds, sure the XF-1000XM3s are better sounding but their charging case is huge and the AirPods Pro are more comfortable) and if you have the money, these and the AirPods Pro are the ones to get. I wouldn’t be surprised if you think there’s no reason to get ANY Apple product aside from their pretty look, you know because you’re a blind Apple hater, but there is a lot.
The only reason I would buy these or suggest these to anyone would be the noise cancellation. It is otherworldly. I've never felt so isolated in a crowd. Put them on and close your eyes. I also loved the headband height adjust mechanism. Very high quality and done correctly. From an audio perspective, it is less than meh to me. My overall impression of these is that they are quite muddy. The DSP correction cannot overcome the the impact of acoustic tuning. These just can't hold a candle to any half decent headphones for sound quality. My experience with them was limited but I know what I look for in a headphone and these are not better than my BTR5 + HD58X/M50X. I know it's not a fair comparison as the Airpods Max are provide other conveniences compared to my setup but if I am paying north of $550 for a pair of cans, they better at least compete with headphones like HD600, HD500 series, Sivga Pheonix, or ither sub $350 pairs.
Awesome review, as always. I'd like to ask, did you try them with any Apple product? It's pretty well-known that Apple has pretty much the best AAC encoder around, so that could be the reason you are hearing compression artifacts. Android uses the Fraunhofer encoder with variable-quality encoder settings (my Huawei sounded like ABSOLUTE shit when it wasn't using aptX, others can be okay), which just isn't as good. RU-vid Music uses the same encoder and everyone complains about the sound quality, despite it being 256kbps AAC (which, with a good encoder is transparent. Apple Music has impeccable sound quality, along with Tidal's AAC library).
Holy shit your reply makes me want to puke. So not only does Apple want you to use it with an iPhone because otherwise not all the functions work properly.. now you're also telling us that apparently even the fucking protocol, that it's INTENTIONALLY LIMITED IN, only works 'properly' when applied by Apple? Fuck man, I didn't think Apple could be any more scumbag walled-garden than I already thought they were... yet here, once more, I stand corrected.
One other thing they did with the noise cancelling that I find genius (in my case on the pros) is when you are listening in Transparency mode, if a loud noise happens, the AirPods will automatically cancel noise on the side that it is detected from. I discovered this when I was outside with my dogs while a car pulled up and when one of my dogs screeched the left side deafened.
Gotta say, ZEOS may be one of the most personality-filled and NOT annoying reviewers I have ever watched. There are a lot of personality-filled people on RU-vid, but hell are they annoying. Not ZEOS - he's funny, individual, and so entertaining and of course knowledgeable and trustworthy in my opinion. I almost spit out the root beer I was drinking from laughter when I heard him say that he should have to change his underwear from the sound of a $600 headphone. Love that guy! Keep up the good work bud!
I’m sure it wouldn’t be too hard to make one aftermarket. I could imagine clip on nuggets where the clips hug the headband. I’m sure someone could 3D print it or if they’ve got some metalworking experience they could even use spring steel
Anker life q30 is my favorite ANC headphone. the adjustable DSP can turn it from sounding like the Sony xm4 to pretty close to a hd600 with WAY more sub bass, had pretty impressive anc, very light and VERY comfortable, and despite only being $80 it has all the feature set of the premium ANC cans absolutely LOVE them. Olav's gadget made an EQ setting That just DESTROYES every other ANC headphone I've tried
I have to agree on all of the sound quality points...the Q30 is very competitive (w/custom EQ) without even considering its incredibly low relative price. Build quality...is very OK and I do not see this as a downside...but it is not to the level of a US$250+ headset. As for ANC/ambient...it performs well and I would guess it is about 75% to the level of Bose, Sony...maybe 70% to that of the Apple Airpods Max. I have owned the Q30 for the past 6 months and find it one of my best audio purchases within the last five years. Perfect for the office, home, air travel, car. Call quality is also very good. Battery life...great. Comfort...for me...excellent. Prefer it over the Q35, which is 2x its price. Why(?)...better sound quality. The improved ANC/ambient and build of the Q35 is not worth the slight reduction in sound quality, for me, and definitely not at 2x the price.
The reason I got the Sony XM3's in quarantine is that both me and my girlfriend work from home now (we both have our desks in one room), and since she spends most of her days in meetings talking, noise-canceling headphones are the only way I can get the quiet working environment I prefer.
It's funny because ppl who would never spend $3-500 on a pair of headphones from any other company will dish out $600 for those headphone only because it's made by apple. Even if martin logan or krell came out with a $500 pair of headphones they would never think to buy them. But now that apple has come out with these ppl are eating ramen noodles for the next month so they can afford them. shows you the power of advertising and brand recognition.
Haha you're doing the same thing with Ramen; it's just a brand. Smart people don't eat Ramen to save money. Rice and Beans, for example, are much less money per serving and much healthier.
@Sheepish Lord not everything they make is good, they just own the system and only they can make hardware with the system. If they weren't the only company that could make iOS phones and computers and what fucking not then there would be competition and they would get blown out like google is blown out by other android phone makers. But they don't allow it cause they're a terrible fucking corporation.
Hey Zeos thank you for the review, would it be possible for your to make us hear the AirPods Max noise cancelling with your sound demo setup (and compare it to the Sony's or Bose's) ? That would be an amazing way to sense the difference between these
Love your reviews. Just wanted to point something out. Without using it with an iPhone/iPad/Mac, you did not achieve the full capability of the headphone. Read up on how the dual H1chips decode/process audio on headphones from Apple devices and what that does to the sound.
Several decent reviewers have covered this product within the apple ecosystem... Crinacle, Resolve Reviews, DMS, Josh Valour, etc... They all had similar takes..
And what? Buy into Apple's communism? They can f off with these cans. If I want to use them with whatever device I want - I will use them. If they cannot fill the bill - all the better to ignore them.
Which openback headphones would still sound better than these? Anything Sennheiser/Beyerdynamic? Interested to see in what range these compare is it like a 1/10 or 7/10 or ...?
Spot on review. Apple has correccted some of the shortcomings you experienced have been corrected through software updates, it doesn’t hurt that they are now $450 instead of $550.
I don't think it would make sense for android users to buy any Airpods. They loose most of the features like pause when you take them off, fw updates, spacial audio and auto connect and switch to apple devices seamlessly. In the compatibility section under specs, Apple has just mentioned apple devices and none other. Regarding AAC, it looks like Apple is doing something to make ALAC work wirelessly to Airpods Pro and Max and that would make complete sense as they recently launched lossless audio in apple music. Good and trusted review as usual by Zeos.!
Great video man really enjoyed it. Quick question. .. I've got a pair of Sony xb900n would you say sound quality wise are the Apple headphones better than the Sony xb900N
@@S.M.A.Batista You might have received a faulty pair, mine are so quite i don't even need noise-cancelling and overall harmonic distortion is so low when the music is turned up , they are the cleanest quietest headphones i have
@@senpaiy0982 It would be idiotic to have a find my option and a shut off. Just charge it every night. If you take it with you somewhere with it shut off, and leave it, you’ve basically given $500 to who ever finds it.
@E. O. I happen to know for a fact you are wrong. I work tech support and a huge chunk of my calls are about finding lost devices and making claims on them.
Bro, they only run on ACC, no LDAC, no AptXHD nada. I am curious if someone can sent you the Samsung Buds Pro that supposedly have two drivers. I used to love the Samsung Level U Pro, which back in the day had two drivers while everyone was still using single ones. Plus certified HiRes, AptXHD and ANC.
Noise cancelling is great for chores: washing the dishes, vacuuming, cooking, etc. noise cancelling is still relevant I think. Great review by the way!
I’ll stick with my senheiser momentum 3 and Sony xm4’s for the house and travel . I was really hoping these would be the bees knees . I’ll just use my AirPod pros for daily stuff
Zeos a few thoughts: These make no sense for folks who aren’t in the Apple ecosystem. There’s something AirPlay-ish happening with Apple devices which is not with Android devices, at least from my own A-B testing it’s different. If you haven’t tried these with an Apple device you are likely missing something of the DSP. I don’t think you can use Spatial Audio without Apple devices. I think you should have tried these wired. In my testing wired they compared well with very good wired headphones with the added benefit of ANC and Transparency modes while listening to Flac files through the SMSL SP200 and SMSL SU9. I was hoping for your thoughts on them wired, given all the headphones you’ve listened to. When paired with an Apple device you can put them in a neutral mode without ANC or Transparency on. In my tests these sounded better than the Pandas, soundstage and instrument separation where better on the APMs both wired and wireless. The Lightning to 3.5mm cable is $35 bucks sold separately, this is stupid and should have been included in the box. When we can fly again you’ll want the wire for plane IFE. I agree with you these have superior ANC, and DSP is the future of audio.
Plenty of reviewers already giving the pure Apple ecosystem perspective. Reviewing headphones for their general utility value is a much more useful review for the majority of us.
@@brad_wilson closed eco systems or subscription models to unlock all features in a device (more in the future? BMW does it with its entertainment system) are bad so I understand his review with android and pc bluetooth devices
@@brad_wilson No doubt, we all know that Zeos is not an Apple fan. But from a music first perspective is there a difference? There is a cable, how does the APM sound wired? I’m no reviewer, but I have headphones and amps and Dacs. I wanted to know how they compare to the rest of my gear. Are they better? No. Are they comparable? To a couple of my headphones, yes. Do they sounds better with Apple gear? Yes. How do they compare to the Pandas wired and unwired? And some features can only work with Apple devices. Zeos had a legit complaint that he couldn’t set them to ANC and Transparency off. Well you can with an iPhone or an iPad or a Mac. And they are excellent for calls, Zoom, etc.
Found out u can replace the headband just gotta know how seen some RU-vid vids on how u can it’s pretty cool and easy defiantly worth knowing if u plan on using them for awhile
Being new to your channel I'd like to ask about your noise cancellation review. Did you review noise cancellation from an audiophile perspective (sound performance) or simply how efficient it is at blocking sound out? The challenge with noise cancellation, according to acoustic engineers and audio pros (I'm neither), is that the more you cancel out noise the more you distort the sound. That's why true hifi headphones do not have full blocking of external noises, it impairs the sound quality. So balancing is key to hifi sound, or just expensive fashion accessories. So from my perspective the best noise cancelling is not the ones blocking out most external sound, but headphones that balance blocking the most external sound out without impairing the audio sound quality. After all, headphones are for music and not ear protection. Thanks for the review.
the koss i own. i dislike the cable and chunky remote.the sound is too bass heavy. but i like them for what they are. lightweight sumer companions. bass is impressive but can annoy imho. great carrying case and fold mechanism.
you do better keep a pair around, its basically gonna become one of the most known headphone tuning after all, its good to use it to compare to future releases.
Hey love your reviews and opinons Z. I would be really intrested in your persepctive and opinion on the new V-MODA M-200's. Apparently it's their first set of cans as studio monitors.
Not that I’m interested in buying them, but I want to hear what they sound like through the cable. There is no DSP through the cable and I wonder how different they sound.
NO!! You don’t get this for the sound. MX4 still a far superior headset for the value, other Audiophiles have called Sony the kind of NC still, and sound is good, not great. This NC is on par and sound does not justify the cost. Get the Pandas for less.
I would suggest to wait. Now that Apple has come in and shown that people will still buy Wireless headphones at 600 dollars I am pretty sure Sony and Bose will also finally upgrade
I'm looking to round out a small collection of headphones I have and need a good compliment/contrast to my KPH30i and HD58x. Stuck between the Grado sr80e or the Phillips SHP9500. Thoughts?
Compare to what you have, the SHP9500 don't bring anything to the table that makes you need to have em. They are fine, natural, comfortable and great for gaming but so are HD58x. Unless you have comfort issues with the HD58x I'd say checking out Grados might make more sense. The actual reason I put on my SHP9500 now is how easy it is to make em Bluetooth-wireless with a pmow receiver.
Wired is worse than wireless in this case because it gets converted to analog on the phone and then back into digital in the headphones, adds dsp and then coverts it into analog again.
The cost-benefit isn’t there imo. I’m just not comfortable with yet another non-serviceable and disposable product. Will they replace that headband? Will someone make those magnetic ear pads? What if one of the many internal SMCs takes a shit? My Sony MDRs have been alive and well for over 25 years. You think we are gonna see these working in 25 years?
dude you know what, out of all the people on youtube that I know I only looking forward on you review this one, was wondering if you would do it, then you did it. Make me smile man. Good work.
I just bought Sony WH-1000XM3s a few days ago used for a good price. I currently don't use the ANC ever, but as soon as I have to commute again, which I do by public transport, I'm gonna use the shit out of it.
Yamaha YH-E700A. Over-ear, closed back wireless noise-cancelling KPH30i with a slightly warmer sound; as long as you disable the “listening optimizer” function in the otherwise useless app. Very happy with them, would love to see a review from a legit source to make sure my ears aren’t deceiving me.
I have this exact problem with the Samsung Galaxy Buds Live... they are sterile, DSP cranked to the moon! And you don't have an option to set the EQ into the memory of the headphones, so they only sound "ok" when using their app...
Great reviews, thank you! The idea of not turning them off is good for when you leave them at the airport or airplane ( lost two in the past like that) and you’re trying to find them with the “find my AirPod max” function on your iphone... because after $550 I’d hate to lose them because i turned them off and now i can use the feature in them specifically to help me find them. Btw ...the sensor doesn’t stop working if you put pads in the wrong way, they just work faster if you do. You also didnt get to experience the spacial audio because of the android , you should try that for a 3rd “ holy shit “ moment on these. I Sound wise... I’d love to see a back to back test review with things like the m4s and B&Os.
I once found an abandoned cloth hand bag on a couch at at an airport bar. It was a small bag filled with a passport, new iPhone, and iPad. Spent the next 15 minutes with the bar management and airport staff to track down the poor lady who left her bag. Yikes...she was already on a departed plane. The airport managed the mess thereafter...did all I could do to help. Total nightmare for that poor soul.
please review a pair of ATH DSR7bt from Audio Technica. its old but on amazon they can found as refurb for around 60$...from time to time. full digital structure. no audio jack. They are based of the msr7 se.
With iOS/iPadOS16 and Ventura these sound sooo damn good! The true depth cam ear measure thing did such an amazing job. If there wasn‘t the fucking condensation shit going on they would be perfect
