Noah, I just gotta say I love how objective you are whenever you do phone reviews. I'm an iPhone 4 user, but I loved seeing your comments about the pros and cons of both the iPhone 4 and the Droid Incredible. Keep up the great work!
I miss my Droid Incrdble 1 :( But hated verizon!! Funny the 4.3 inchers were considered HUGE. But newer tech has made it possible to have a larger screen thats thinner and lighter these days. Now Im rocking a SG3 with 4.8". Light and thin as a feather..even with otterbox :P
Yo Noah! Please fix the audio in your videos. Theyre really low compared to others, plus the sound seems like you're a bit too far away from the mic. Great vid though!
Phonedog reviews are amazing, I love watching them very very much....only one complaint though....so to say... On the most other videos on youtube the sound is much stronger, not the quality but the volume....could you please do something about this cuz I'm watching phonedog often on my laptop (macbook)....it would not be bad if the 5.1 speaker system was connected to it, but on the crappy laptop speakers when the volume is turned to the max the sound is still sooooooo weak....
@phonedog. Umm can u please inform people on your next vid that the HTC incredible is soon getting an update that allows the incredible to shoot 720 p HD videos and it allows it to turn into a mobile hotspot. Yeah just putting that put there.
Great review! Yours is the most in-depth review and comparison of the two phones I've seen so far! Now I already own the iPhone 4 and I'm happy for the most part with it. It truly is a great piece of technology aside from some of the obvious flaws. But apple's press conference really pissed me off. So this weekend, i'll be visiting my local Verizon store and checking out both the Droid X and the Incredible to decide for myself whether either phones warrants my abandoning apple and the iPhone 4.
a little tip, the droid incredible's camera is capable of taking better pictures, you just have to play with the settings. From My Own Experience with My Own. And soon the the Droid Incredible is going to get an OTA update that supports 720p video capture.
Dear phonedog, the glass on the iphone is extremely hard to shatter because it is the same glass used in military helicopters and commercial planes. only if you throw it on the ground a hundred times in a row it will break. just want you to know :)
thats funny how he said in 4:00 how he said Verizon has more coverage in the San Francisco Bay area when AT&T's coverage is 5 bars while Verizon's is two.
i think you should do a dogfight with the iPhone 4 and the Samsung Captivate that just seems like a better dogfight it just makes more sense to have some dogfights between phones on the same network because a lot of us will not want to change networks.
thanks for this in-depth review...will be upgrading (Verizon user) this September and am thinking about the HTC Incredible and the Droid X. Gotta play with them though since form factor is a huge thing (the Droid X might be too big). Of course by September, who knows what else might be out :P
I think that Android OS and iPhone OS are really good for each other. The competition from each forces the other company to bring more innovation and reliability to their product.
@spikeman23 , oops wrong phone, i have the htc inspire. AT&T 4g isn't the greatest, just a boosted 3g technology (HPSA+), there is no industry widely accepted format of 4G, pretty much each company can have their own definition of 4th gen technology.
@nebuk ... It doesnt look like the droid incredible at all, and ive read something on a site that htc driod incredible comes to europe. Soo, im all confused right here. Explain it to me.
This is really the first time I'm hearing about the proximity sensor. I haven't had that problem at all and to my understanding those with the yellow spots don't have them anymore. The only problem I would say is the death grip issue, besides that the phones perfect in my opinion. That's just me.
The glass is a little higher end then glass you find on sunglasses. I do like the incredible, but the step cutout on the back of the phone seems like it might make it hard to use on a solid surface. I have used my wifes iPhone 4 and it is a great phone. If the incredible is close or even the same phone in performance and price I wouldn't even think about leaving Verizon to get an iPhone. To touch on the bugs with prox sensor and the signal issue my wifes phones has none of these problems.
@bhavi141 Don't the Evo and the Incredible have the same processor and screen resolution? They are also made by the same company and were released around the same time. I would say that the main difference in performance would be the network they were on. All of that in mind, I don't see how either one could be much better than the other. Just saying...
@RileysWill the original droid is still selling out like crazy. Im not sure what you mean by outdated other than meaning another brand of phone coming out with android on it. But software wise my droid is running the latest software(2.2 froyo) while my cpu on the original droid is clocked at 1.2Mhz(1.2Ghz). Check the stats on those new phones and you will see that old droid kicks the shit out of most new phones.
I think Noah needs a better mic! I always have to turn up the volume after the music intro's because its so quiet... Thumbs up if you think so too! Great video!
I agree with him, all hose droid X and HTC evo are way too big to be of any interest to me. I want something just small enough to be easily portable and pocket friendly
@panicandfoblvr I think a lot of viewers and myself included just want to see what's out there, and would like to see two phones compared, nothing more nothing less. Regardless of what network they are on. Of course I do see your point and you make a valid one. For example a comparison between the Droid X and HTC Incredible (going with your itinerary).
i have the hTc incredible 4g from AT&T. I did have the iPhone 3Gs and liked it until it kept dropping calls pissing me off, so I returned it for the hTc. Love the hTc prefering the droid OS over the iPhone IOS. The hTc has a bigger & crisp screen. The flashlight feature is REALLY bright, does eat the batt though.
Currently have an Incredible, have had it for about a week, honestly I will run this phone until my 2 years are up, it is awesome. I love android with sense, and it just does everything great, movies, music, games, apps, etc. Not that the iphone 4 doesnt do that stuff great, I just get to make phone calls too :)
I'm about to return my second Droid Incredible. It gets a very good signal, but the call quality is poor. Voice quality sounds very compressed, words get clipped off and it simply doesn't perform adequately as a phone. Too bad, because everything else about this device is fantastic. Unfortunately, Verizon has nothing to say except that they are aware of the problem and a patch is due to come out sometime. Do I trust them? Unfortunately no. I don't want to be stuck with this phone for 2 years.

I have an incredible and my sister has an iphone 4 so i've gotten both hands on. If the iphone has anything on the incredible it's the app store, but as far as overall devices, Incredible hands down. Better camera, widgets, more options.
@xanafanadu haha thats a good one! its funny because i actually tested the death grip when i first got it and it actually did it! the bars went down when i held it and back up when i released. but now it doesnt do it anymore which is wierd?

Of all the touch screen that i use, only iphone has the most res ponsive in terms Of usability. Plus many apps that can be downloaded The fun never ends
@killerkommotion credit where credit is due: droid has custimazation, widgets, a lot of choices for products. iphone: reliable, speed, apps. depends on what you want. ur the first droid lover dude to not cuss up a storm at me, congrats, thanks. agree to disagree?
@genestarwindjf80 because that iphone isnt the new iOS.. the formula to show the antenaa is wrong but the new software update would of show it less bars
You guys say wait like 3 months for a new Android phone to outshine the iphone 4. The problem is there most likely won't be one. Companies have been trying so hard to take away the iphones appeal. This phone will still have lots of hype until the next. That is until someone beats the iphones form and functionality.
@yankeebabeex2 I have the iPhone 4 and I've actually dropped it a lot on hard surfaces and never had even a scratch. I will say that it feels really really good in the hand, a lot better than older plastic iPhones. Droid Incredible is hands down my favorite Android phone though so tell me how you like it!
These two are really great phones but honestly in my opinion, the iPhone 4 is better than any phone in the world right now. Mainly because of the way it operates. No other phone operates so smoothly. Yea this one has a few little bugs but we can wait for a software update. Usually the problems are within the software and can be fixed easily. Honestly all these other phones, their problems usually stay the same. I work with AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon and I have personally used and reviewed all
@flaper41 it makes phone calls just fine. apple demonstrated yesterday that ALL cell phones have issues depending on where you hold them. i am open to new technology, but there has yet to be a smartphone released thats better than the iphone. android isnt even close. its cluttered and buggy.
@SergiPhone I strongly disagree because each and every year that the new iphone comes out it always seems to have issues that NO OTHER phone seems to be having I mean this years iphone is showing full signal strength where it has little or no signal at all last years iphone had a record number of returns due to the fact that they where not working at all and also keep in mind that both Black Berry and Android phones have already been out sellng the iphone in the first part of this year.
@FR0MDAS0UTH which phone does that? oh wow theres ton. search just youtube if you want to see examples. its such a big phone they do so much to bring it down nowadays. Even one of my favorite phones, the Nexus One had a huge "issue" with this, but no one knows aside from a few users because it wasn't blown out of proportion. Yet the Nexus is still a great phone, and as is the i4, it doesn't take away from either.
@YuukiJuudai23 the nexus one had a HUGE support thread about this same problem lol its not that big an issue, otherwise i'd say the Nexus is a bad phone and stuff when it really doesn't take away from the phone.
@ichigo8892 The only reason I would get the iphone is because of the apps. But android is competing effectively against their apps and they don't put all the limitations on it like apple. So its a hell of a lot better.
How is the Droid Incredible competition for iPhone 4? Droid Incredible cant do anything better than the iPhone 4. Its only bigger, has a better network, and better call quality. Display, camera/vid camera, battery life, and apps are all better on iphone 4. and a gyroscope
iphone influenced smartphones in so many ways, they really wouldnt be the same without it. that being said, android's taken the design of the iphone and iOS and expanded on it to please a broader range of consumers. both types of phones are fantastic in their own ways, depending on who uses them and what for. there is no clear winner
@DudeImDaniel tmobile- Mytouch 3GS and the vibrant (coming out the 15th) sprint- yah the evo lol and epic 4G (no release date yet.. basically same as the vibrant but has qwerty keyboard and its 4g haha)
The thing that I dont like about the android is that they all dont run the same platform. Some run 1.6, some run 2.1, 2.3 or the soon to come 2.3. You never know if or when your particular droid will be updated or if it will be discontinued (i.e Droid Eris). I've use two droids Eris and Incredible and they a both buggy...
Ive heard several times from several people including empolyee's and apple and verizon although once or twice ive heard a verizon employye say that info is not avaliable.. well if they werent getting it they would say no just like they did in the past 2 years or more. but now they say yes, or we cant say.. does any one have any proff of an OFFICIAL yes or no. because we all know we cant trust the word of mouth
@killerkommotion haha deathgrip no more on verizon.... check reviews. what i mean by continue performance is that it doesnt slow down in time. i have a first gen ipod touch. got it when it first came out. it still just as fast. the scrolling is still better then every thing out there. its smoothness is still better. other products seem to lose their speed in time.
hey noah y do you think verizon phones always have skinnier display width wise droid droid x droid incredible ally fathom almost all touchscreen displays are skinnier look at iphone and droid incredible iphone way wider screen but droid incredible longer i dont like that!!!!!!
