I am getting this phone on Wednesday and I can't wait! I always listen and watch your videos, Noah in particular, before I buy a phone because I know you know what you're talking about! Thanks for the review!
I read that there's a way to reset the proximity sensor in the setttings. And as for the signal issue, the problem is something Apple announced and it makes a lot of sense. With all iPhones they make them display bars differently than how AT&T says they should. So iPhones show more bars than the phone has sometimes. So if you have bad service in the area (which makes sense) the phone might still show 5 bars, and covering the antenna gets rid of those fake bars and lowers the real ones too
@Croozer Exactly what I'm thinking. None of those issues have been happening besides the antenna issues and even that is still somewhat dependent on the signal strength in your area.
great review noah i have the iphone 4 but i havent had any problems with it but i have notice the signal drop a bar or two but they end up poping back up quickly so i dont know
the proximity sensor problem is because it is now located above the ear piece and not to the left of it. so when you held it to your shoulder with your head, the phone turned outwards (watch the video when he does it). Before, it would be fine because the sensor was still close to you ear, but that turn and the sensors new position makes it seem like nothing is close to it
Hey Noah, do you think those minor issues are enough reason not to upgrade to this phone because I really want an iphone, maybe I should just save cash and get the 3GS if this is having so many problems?
My iPhone experience was a good one too, my local Best Buy was dead on the morning of launch. They opened at 10am and I was there at 9am and was the only one there. I was in and out in ten minutes when they did open.
Hi Phonedog! Love your review!. Would you consider reviewing your favorite iphone4 apps on Appolicious It would be really helpful cause not many have the 14 yet, Please?
@awsometurkey I'm not saying the issue isn't real. I'm saying it's blown out of proportion. Yes skin contact lowers your signal. But the problem is also AT&T because they don't provide good coverage. I have good coverage where I live. But I also have a similar issue with my 3GS because my metal case lowers signal. And with the iPhone 4, most people should have a case to protect it anyways, so that eliminates the issue. I'd be more worried about my phone being damaged than having bad signal
@DccR27 I think what he meant was that apple has really only one or two different devices for sale at one time( iPhone 4 & the 3GS) , while android has htc, Dell, motorola, etc. Cranking out new phones almost weekly.
@maullster Covering the antenna gets rid of those fake bars and lowers the real ones too? That made no sense. The major problem are the dropped calls, I don't care what the signal says, but dropped calls are a big problem.
@Chiger23 what I mean is that if you have bad service but the phone still shows 5 bars. But lets say you really have like 2 bars. Then you cover up the antenna and it drops to 1 real bar, in which case the phone actually shows you one bar. From what I've seen people who were in areas with 5 real bars had trouble dropping them a lot
@07liberian List? There's one consistent problem with the iPhone and that's the issue with the antenna. That problem isn't even a real problem since putting a case on your $700.00 device like any intelligent person would, makes that problem non existent. The issue comes from the skin touching the antenna blocking it's ability to receive strong signals as well as the signal strength in the area. If the signal strength in the area is low and the antenna blocked, then you'll lose bars.
@CapitalGamer when I say flash, I don't mean camera flash, I mean flash video...you know how many videos on the internet use flash?? facetime has to be ON WIFI, it doesn't work on network EVERYONE experiences signal problems if they hold it in one of 2 ways yellow spots SUPPOSEDLY go away, that remains to be seen
look how long it took for the bars to go down. I think this issue has been blown way out of proportion. Who is going to be holding their phone that tight, that long? As far as the proximity sensor goes... it's simple... LOCK the screen when you're on the call. Easy. Great review so long phonedog. on to video 2.
i have had an iphone 3g and 4 for a couple of years they are made great they have tons of apps but i got tired of it and didnt feel like paying 40$ a month its an amazing phone and very eay to use but im probally going to but the incredible or the fasciante because i want to try something new
I don't know why people make such a big deal about the iphone, or android? To each his own. If you like the iphone, good for you. If you like android, good for you. The iphone is not for everyone, likewise the android. So I don't know why everyone gets so offended when people comment. As for me, the main reason I won't get the iphone is because it's only available on AT&T, if not I would consider it? As for now, I'll get the Droid X.
@TheFlex21 by the way it does have flash and just because you are poor and cant afford it doesnt mean evrybody else is in the same boat apple sold like 1.7 mil in the first 3 days or so
what i dont understand is why apple put the antenna at the bottom instead of at the top. if they have done that there wouldnt be that much problem in the first place.
Why I like the Iphone more then other phones like EVO, it's cause it's simple. Just plug it in to ur PC/MAC it's will sync. Musik player really simple, camera really good and simple. Yeah it's simple and fast.:) Great review
i was going to get one of these. went down to the att store and everything. it turns out that att is putting a 2GB limit on the data package. man that pisses me off. apple needs to dump att.
@Charlesb1 The nexus one (and any android phone that gets android 2.2) has full flash 10.1 and it isn't bad at all, and it is still in beta, wait till it has hardware acceleration and it will be amazing. HTC sense devices have flash light, that is pretty decent, flash videos aren't great, but they are watchable. And flash games actually work fairly well, they run a tiny bit slow, but way better than I ever would of imagined on a phone.
I say the following: you like the iPhone, buy one; you like the HTC, buy one; you like samsung, buy one; you like nokia, buy one. No one has to bash this phone or the other because they dislike it or simply don't know anything about the phone. All that really matter is what phone you like and can afford, no one has any right to bash you for that because, in the end you are the one who will use the phone, not them ;)
4 inch an bigger screened phones are just too big, like doesn't really fit your hand. the iphone 4 is pppeerrrfettt for me. :D cant wait to get mine!!!!!!!!!! thanks for the review Noah, lol i keep watching all these iphone vids to get me excited. the issues are nothing to me, they'll probably be fixed soon anyway. :)
I had the iPhone 3GS and I still have a iPhone 4 but I want an Android because iPhones are getting old they don't change a grid of icons on a screen gets boring
As far as size, is the iphone 4 considered little, medium, massive, etc... I would like to get this phone, but I don't like small phones. I know compared to the Droid x, Htc evo, and HTC HD, it's a little smaller. Can someone help me with this.
@namegamereviews if they suck at marketing then why do they sell over a million iPhone 4's in 5 days? The point of marketing is to entice customers to but your product and they fact that they sell like crazy on every phone they make says that it's working.
@mikeaw510 why not get the epic 4G is alot better, and its comes with the 2.2.1 out the box, i really which it had the gingerbread already. Iam suppose to be getting epic4g sometime this month hopefully , but with my luck as soon as I get it they'll make an annoncement about epics2 4g with gingerbread thats dual core and ill be pissed as hell lol.
its been like about 3 weeks and they now will give you a full refund on your iphone 4 and now it comes with a "bumper case" which goes around the edges and it fixes reception problems i think (: im soo getting one.
@phonedog pffft, why wait when u can have it NOW and just download the updates as apple releases them...all in all 3GS is OLD NEW, iphone 4 is where its at
can someone pleeease answer my question, im concidering getting the iphone 4, my question is: the problem with the proximity sensor, does the new software update fix that problem? if anyone knows that would be great thank you
@OwensMusic1 I'm going down this list in the order that you have named them... 1. The software is of higher quality than iOS and has a similar amount of money put toward it as apple has on iOS. and you need a mental illness to call it difficult to use. No offense to anybody who is mentally ill 2. the "terrible app store" is terrible in no way possible. if you can find a way, tell me please 3. iOS has only OK apps too, and thousands of repeats of the same app in a different layout.
@krazygreen eh... the only thing you have said that doesn't ALSO apply to the iPhone is the multitouch experience. And iPhone 4 is 100% non-innovative well, unless you count the screen. Android has had multitasking forever, Apple now catches up. Android is much better in many ways. you just need to actually use an Android phone to know it. but, we know you won't. Because you're afraid of the conclusion that Apple is not the best. and There are at least fourty Android phones with physical appeal.
