Hmmm... that is a really hard question. I've been wanting an iMac for over a year now, but my current computer crashed and I needed a new one asap so I got the MBP. If the computer didn't crash I would have waited longer for the new iMac, although it's starting to look like 3-6 months until it's upgraded. So short response: Yes, wait for it. It's going to be worth it.
I have a 21.5" late 2012 imac, as you may know, this does not have an internal optical drive. after a month or two of owning the computer, i decided to purchase the superdrive, so i can say from experience, it is compatible with most apple computers :)
@@cutemimi25 Really, does that work? Mac's haven't come with a disc drive now for years I can't even try it. Discs are so obsolete now. The only place I use them is for console gaming.
Great review. Does the DVD player play all region dvd/movies? Does the movie quality look good? Also does the did player sound quiet once it starts spinning the disc?
first time viewer, and I have to say that I am really enjoying your videos, I believe I have seen all the MBA videos now. I appreciate the thoroughness and impeccable attention to detail that you demonstrate on your videos. you can count me in as a subscriber :) Looking forward to your future videos.
watchin' ur videos is equivalent 2 lookin' at the devices themself. very nice. n i c that u respond 2 almost all the comments n help others out. keep up the good work brother!
Hey DetroitBORG, I have to say, thanks for the review. Also, I am intrigued by the watch you are wearing. Do you know the manufacturer/model by any chance? Thanks!
awesome!!! I've had my macbook air for almost 6 months now and didn't need this but started buying discs that i wanted to use on my air. thank you. just found out about this today. gonna buy. great review.
Is it just me or does the bottom of that drive look just like the bottom of the unibody Mac mini? I really wish this worked with other Macs. You would be to accomplish the dual drive setup of the Mac Pro that way. Great Demo. You are probably my favorite RU-vid reviewer.
@LeanMeanFartmachine Mine is a 13" Mid 2012 and it doesn't have one either. I think that's something they've reminisce because they're assuming most people aren't gonna buy the drive. You can still always use the eject button on top of the screen or press and hold Command + E to do a force eject.
@DetroitBORG That's good to know. I also noticed that the trackpad is way smoother when you press to click, even though I tap to click, but it feels quite nice to press to click on the MBA.
@DetroitBORG Good point. What I meant was between the resting spot where you place your hands to type, not the keyboard itself. On the 15 inch Macbook Pro which I currrently use there's a lot of space on the resting spot so it's really comfortable. The 13 inch is also very comfortable to me too.
I know, the MBP is shipping in 2-3 weeks when my order is ready. But when I bought the computer I also bought a Superdrive, which came in the mail yesterday.
Very nice video! Better than the ones I tried watching! I should of watched this video first...haha. Btw, may I ask, did you edit this video using your MacBook Air?
Borg, I don't know if it's the camera, but your hands look really big. How can u type on the 11 inch notebook? I know it's a dumb question, but my hands are really big and it's quite hard to adjust to typing on that thing. I would love to get the 13 inch model, but I don't need it for now. The super drive is really neat from what I see here. Like always, awesome review and keep posting more videos on the MBA.
Hey, I just got a macbook air, and my main concern is being able to import CDs to iTunes. I watched your video on using the remote disc feature, but I'm wondering which would be better - should I purchase a superdrive, or will using a remote disc work just as well for importing CDs to iTunes?
Is this product still available? I purchased a MacBook Pro 16" and am in need of a CD Drive. I wonder if they have upgraded the cable to USB-C after 10 years so that I don't have to buy another device to plug this into! sooo many accessories.
Hey! You can still find this drive at Apple.com. Here are the links: USA: www.apple.com/shop/product/MD564LL/A/apple-usb-superdrive?fnode=2e377848fa12d8d9db66c9ab81708133116bf403d09a3035e3c5b0eb0743e032b0b7a9787563b296c22da148085a9976a6cf650cb88e4874954333ac380998057c73b7e68a1f9b1e11b7f422039750513d061cb969b951a826e129cf5ef4188c&fs=f%3Dapple%26fh%3D3783%252B3214 If you're in another country, go to apple.com/mac then click on Accessories>Storage you should find it there. Hope this helps.
Thanks! This vid showed me how to get that drive back in the pesky box without bending the cord. Of course, I had already torn the inside out of the box. LOL
When I bought my Macbook Pro w/ Retina display it was located on the page were you select the computer's specs. If that doesn't work for you then just search "Superdrive" on the top right hand corner of Apple.com, and it brings you to the search page were you can find it.
Making people move on to digital-only downloads rather than disc-based media is pretty cruel in my opinion. I do believe getting rid of the internal optical disc drive was a cost-saving measure, would I be correct? All Desktop PCs still have disc drives while some Laptops do not have internal disc drives and that is just fine. I believe it was a cost-saving measure. In response to people who are upset with the lack of a disc drive on a laptop or computer, they invented external disc drives to respond to complaints. We really do need a blu-ray drive for our new Laptop! Or it can be used as an extra disc drive on your PC if your Desktop has one.
Nice vid Mike. This is the way to go if you have a MBA but I find it odd that it only works with the MBA not that you would need it with a Macbook unless its drive failed.
I was going to get a macbook air too. almost half a year later I have an amazing macbook pro. even the pro is a relatively slim laptop really, you never notice any bulk. the macbook pro has more power, and expandability if you ever want to upgrade. I think you would be better off with a macbook pro. Just from personal experience.
What type of table are you using in this video? I am looking for a new desk, one similar to the apple store tables. This looks like the same type of texture.
I have a MacBook Pro from 2011. The CD burner is broken, therefore I've been advice to buy an external one. Does it burn CDs at 4x speed? Do I need to buy a software?
Great video. I had a MacBook Aluminum earlier this year and sold it to pay court costs from something stupid i did and I've missed having a Mac. Your videos really have helped me make my decision that this is the next MacBook i will get when my next semester starts. As a college student heading in graphic design, could you make a video with the MacBook Air running Photoshop CS5? The MacBook Air I am getting is the 11 inch with 1.6GHz C2D and 4GB of RAM. It would be much appreciated.
Hello. Great video. I want to buy one for my MacBook Air 13-inch ~ 2014... will it be 100% compatible? And, which are the worst aspects of the superdrive? I mean, which aret he most probable bad things that can happen? Unable to eject a CD? Thank you.
Hello! Have you heard regarding the Tube Cash Exposure? I found out it on Google Search and listened to quite a few outstanding stuff about it. A lot of my pal also suggest me to look into it
I have an iMac 21'' and recently I have been experiencing problems with my drive. Sometimes it won't read DVDs and has trouble reading DVD ROM (for games). I wan't thinking of buying one but just wondered if this drive could be used instead of the built in drive on the iMac.
Compatible with Mac mini 2007? Gonna get it for Christmas, don't worry, my bro is yonna hook me up with 4 gb ram, but will this work with Mac mini 2007?
I bought external dvd drive from Inter-Tech, it is also great, high speed data transfer, the seller offered me 70% off discount, they are still looking for more testers, www.amazon.com/External-Inter-Tech-Superdrive-Portable-Rewriter/dp/B075F98S34/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1507106412&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=Inter+Tech+external+dvd+drive
