Apple's Future Plans for the iPhone? 

My problem with all this is that tech reviewers are too soft on Apple. For example, when Google launched the Pixel 6a so many tech reviewers complained that it only had a 60hz display when the iPhone 14 plus was double the price and had a 60hz display and barely any reviewers complained.

60hz. For 4 years. It makes me upset that apple can get away with shafting their consumers.

Oddly the “giant notch” takes up less screen then the Dynamic Island.

I do think the dynamic island UI will carry even after it’s gone to some extent, utilizing the top part of the display for notifications and alerts.

I think dynamic island is here to stay for a while even once the cameras are under the display. Maybe the island will have an animation that drops down from the top edge of the phone when something is using it. If it’s not in use, the island disappears.

Ok hear me out. In 2021 I wanted an iPad for my school and decided to buy the iPad Air which started at $670 (in India) but it was 64gb so had to get a bigger storage option and 256gb was $840 . At this point I was dangerously close to iPad Pro 11 inch which was $877 and came with Face ID , Pro Motion , LIDAR , ultra wide lens. Waited a couple weeks for the M1 version and got it for $877. This is how Apple’s price ladder works.

if this reporting is accurate, and even if it isn't, Apple's roadmap is the "incremental drip" plan. There is no way they are going to drop everything we want in one release. This is how you keep interest, publicity, and wallets open.

Just curious, how does everyone know for sure this is actually Apple’s roadmap for the next few models?

Interesting about the roadnap for the front of the iPhone but what about the internals? What is the roadmap for their battery technology? Lots of technologies seem to be talked about but none of them see the light of the day.

The dynamic island notifications will continue on the phone as that is the best UI to show those currently and provide additional functionality

Apple loves to keep their iPhones look and feel “the same” for a really long time. I bet they will stick around for at least a few years even when underscreen camera tech is already mature, and it will stay for a few more as a purely software button after they finally adopt underscreen camera, and it will be summonable by tapping anywhere approximately around the position of the current DI. It’d probably take nearly a decade for Apple to completely phase out DI.

Unfortunately Apple seems to have lost its mojo on the product line.

What is the purpose of the dynamic Island? It’s dynamic so you can have under display Face ID and have the dynamic lsland

Wild assumption: they will add a foldable category to their line up within the next 4 years. I assume that will be the top of the product line and will position itself somewhere between iPad Pro and iPhone Pro Max. And it will have a Mx-Chip in it..

man just the shots of the s10e make me miss mine. Even though I switched to the iphone 13 mini a few weeks ago, I still have an itch to just switch back to the s10e.

How does under the display camera work without some occlusion? The only way I can see that work is if they have 2 under the display cameras and one of those uses the information it sees (combined with using AI because odd angles…) to complete what the other doesn’t see.

I wish the didn’t bump up the prices that much in Europe last year. When the 14 pro launched it started at €1329 and the regular 14 was €1019. Was planning to upgrade my 13 next year thinking about just getting the 14 pro instead of the regular 15, they will be about the same price then.

I really appreciate Face ID more than that tiny notch of screen space

i think Dynamic island is actually a step backwards, it might be smaller but becuase it sits further down the screen than a notch it actually takes away more screen space as is creates a bigger header in the OS, so you loose space for you apps, i have checked this with a 13 pro vs a 14 pro side by side, the dynamic island definitely intrudes on your media more.

I’ve had an s21 and an iPhone 13. I don’t notice the notch as much as I didn’t notice the s21 camera.

Only potentially interesting iPhone in the near future is SE if it is small enough. Not that there is too much cool things in Androidland either currently but there is a lot bigger possibility that one appears there.

I use to love using the phrase "The iPhone Moment" to describe when a trend starts to grow exponentially. Now I find myself increasingly use the phrase "The Another iPhone Moment" to describe when a trend starts to plateau.

I definitely can see Dynamic Island rolling out on all models as it's sort of "Apple's thing" - I say sort of because there have been previous iterations on Android, but not nearly as flashy though. 60hz for the next few years is crazy but entirely predictable. The dreamer in me would love to see them use the old Mini lineup for their SE 4/5. However, I think we will be stuck on single rear camera models (i.e., 11, 12) for the next 2/3 generations of the SE at least.

Why Apple don't put under-screen fingerprint scanners on iPhones? They have gotten quite reliable in recent years and don't cover a considerable amount of the screen.

So…. I should just get the 13 then? I’ve got an SE 2020 and was thinking of waiting for the 15 but no physical sim, a cut out that actually takes up MORE overall space than the notch and an almost guaranteed price bump has me leaning towards the 13. (While it’s still available)

They could have extended the notch using software instead of having the dynamic island...and saved space

I hate the dynamic island because it takes up even more space of the screen for being farther away from the border. The topnotch is still less distracting. Will get the Galaxy S23 for the hole-punch camera.

I’m wondering if we’ll ever get a really good behind the screen camera? For best results, you don’t want anything other than perfectly clear glass between the glass and the lens. I don’t believe that it’s the cameras so much, but rather the screen. I imagine computational work can partly compensate for the circuitry in front of the lens, but it can’t completely eliminate the problem. With a 12MP camera, it could work ok, but with the new hi res cameras coming out for front cameras, I think they’re up to what, 24MP, it’s going to be more difficult.

Just got my 14 pro max on a 3 year contract. So I got a good 4 years to wait for a complete overall display. Think I will wait that extra year.

I'm waiting for usb c on an iPhone, then I'd get one as all my other devices use usb c charging. My S21 is great and android has been liberating but I just miss better app performance

I'm still waiting for the finger print ID to come back, under panel obviously. I'm not a fan of face ID at all.

Tech is like so maxed out today. The minuscule differences really doesn’t improve the life of the user much.

Hey guys, careful about the lights on set. It looks like Marques is in one studio while Andrew and David (who look super bright when compared to Marques) are in a different one. Great episode nonetheless.

Apple liles to brand itself as being ecologically friendly. Firstly they removed the charger from the box so that you have to buy it separately. Now they are resisting the standard USB-C until the EU forces them to have one on the basis of having a universal charger. Apple will comply eventually but they will make it so that only original Apple chargers will be able to trasfer data, while universal chargers will just charge your phone.

As some one using the 14 pro. The notch was way better for video/gaming viewing. the tiny bit of screen above the island is very jarring and not very enjoyable. The features are cool but there isn’t really anything software related they do with the pill that they couldn’t of done with the notch just saying.

I understand now how they will do the “under screen” camera. They will use a perpendicular projection tech ology combined with specifically textured, crafted glass to suspend the screen image under the “display” so essentially the screen is just glass, so the camera is able to be placed specifically to be able to see through this “screen”

Frankly, I'd be happy with a form factor that did not change dramatically. If an updated version of HTC One M9+ (USB Type C, 4000 MLA battery and latest hardware) could come a la iPhone SE I'd be more than happy with it. For all the talk of punch holes, pop up cameras and dynamic islands, all one really wants is functionality and good memory and most of all significant software support.

This makes me feel good abt buying the 14 pro bc it’ll age real well😂

I think that instead of the base iphone's getting 120 hertz they will probably just put a 90 hertz screen on it because they have already done pro motion branding for pros only

I skipped the notch era and adopted the dynamic island era. I don’t think by 2025 will bring the under screen anything unless it’s bringing back Touch ID.

I think I’m the tech community we all tend to forget a bit what the average consumer is after. Frankly they don’t care about 60hz or a notch or whatever else. They want a premium device made out of premium materials with good longevity and things like a reliable predictable camera, a good display, good speakers and integration with their other devices. No one device is going to be perfect and sure you can say that the iPhones might be expensive for what they are on paper But again you’re forgetting that people are happy to pay not only for the brand tax, but also for the reliability and for the comfort of knowing what to expect when they fork their cash over Same way that people buy a a Honda civic. It might be boring and might not be as good of value as a Hyundai feature wise for example, but you know what you’re getting with the civic. End of the day apple has more intelligent people than all of us analysing everything constantly. Sure they make mistakes, everyone does, but they know what they’re doing whether the hardcore tech community likes it or not

iPhone ultra will be a large format iPhone with an M series processor and will serve as the off-unit processor for the anticipated ar/vr goggle

From a ten-years-ago perspective, it's kinda sad that these predictions can even be a thing, since Apple itself has become sort of underwhelming and predictable. Of course the smartphone is a very developed and established technology. But don't tell me they couldn't knock something out like in the old days if they wanted to.

Ive kinda had it with iphone. I "downgraded" from the iPhone 7 Plus to the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The high refresh rate is nice, but not enough to win me over.

To the average consumer “no pun intended” the dynamic hole cutout seems to be heading into the irrelevant side of ideas, similar to 3D Touch in former iPhones. Hoping for an all screen option in the iPhone without any kind of notch while improving the front facing technology. Hoping lol Personally I will be skipping this years iPhone due to inflation in my area and lack of real world innovation. Not a fan of incremental updates as well.

I would take a camera cutout all the day long over decreased front camera quality. With so many people taking selfies I would take a larger cutout for a better selfie camera

Don't understand the obsession with thin bezels, I'd rather have a full view of the screen while holding it. Same with laptops, as I want separation from background. It will NEVER happen, but I wish you could buy an iPhone like you would with a car, with the options you want or DON'T want. I have never used the front camera on any of my iPhones, or iPad (which I never used any camera on), I hate the notch, especially for something I never use.
