Apple Signs Deal to Use Samsung's Folding Displays 

Apple fanboys are only opposed to foldables because Apple is not making them. If it starts making them, they will eat it all up and write poems about how good of a device it is...

I'm primarily a iPhone user, but have folding devices, a folding iPhone would be a dream come true for me.

Although I'm an Android user (Pixel 8 Pro), the game needs an Apple folding device.

A book style foldable iPhone would be a definite buy for me. But I like both Pixels and iPhones and I stay away from the fan boy nonsense. I just like cool mobile gadgets.

Funny enough, the folds are what brought me from Apple to Samsung, yet it's the OS of Samsung that'll keep me from getting an iPhone if they make a fold. Just can't go back, it feels much more free and open.

Thinking about samsung making folding screens; if they could use that same anti reflective tec on the inner screen as they have on the s24 ultra, I think they could potentially make a virtually non-existent crease. Here's hoping they explore that with Z6.

Love to hear this. I personally think the bigger the screen, the higher the chance of failure; just look at the reported failure rates of flips compared to folds.

And just think... it'll probably only be $3000!

I imagine that a larger device is just opened less frequently and aren't banged around as much or dropped as frequently. Pure speculation though. You're 100% right it will be outrageously expensive to justify cannibalizing another product line

Wow. Interesting. I hope Apple adds a foldable iPhone to the mix. More choice is always better. It would boost Android foldable sales, as well, by making the incredible form factor all the more widely known. That said, for someone who recently learned that early morning bird watching may be a healthier start to his day than panning the Internet for gold, this seems a tad early to have such a well-presented, deeply researched, information-packed video. When you hear reports like this, it doesn’t literally mean that Apple is going to use the same screen as in a Galaxy fold. A screen assembly has many components and calibrations, that could make it very different as a final product.

There are only four company that make folding display Samsung , BOE , TCL , royole . But Samsung is the only company trying to make it better year by year.

As an Apple user I want a foldable, BUT I want it in the Apple ecosystem. So the thought of Apple users against foldables doesn't make sense to me. I follow your channel because I love your coverage of foldable devices. Cost is just a given when it comes to Apple devices. I personally would have more confidence owning a foldable made by Apple versus other OEM's with AppleCare and physical stores to go into. Just my opinion dealing with AppleCare claims in the past and dealings with the physical store convenience. I felt horrible hearing your story of mailing your Pixel Fold in and then having to chat with customer service. In this case I would have much rather talked to someone face to face then the back and forth you got. I'm sorry you had to deal with that nightmare.

my friend is an apple eco system user and doesn't like Samsung or other androids.. he's keen on an apple fold, probably a flip moreso. for the convenience of folded size, with usable outside display and flipping out to around 6.8" candy bar size.

As for durability I guess you could look into flip vs fold to see if the surface area affects it. I'd imagine a larger area has more room to fail along the larger crease.

Shane have you try to peel off fold's 4 screen protector? What's your opinion about peeling off the screen protector?

Shane could you please please please, Show the pixel fold using Trading apps like Interactive brokers (trading options) , crypto trading, binance, bybit, trading view, or your preferred trading platform, some days ago I was about to buy the Oppo find N2 but I've always been a google pixel user but unfortunately Pixel fold is not available in my country so I decided to get the pixel 8 pro instead, but I'm still thinking if I should have gotten the Oppo find N2 instead, it was $754 with 16GB RAM 512GB ROM and it was foldable with the passport like form factor as the pixel fold.

I am iPhone user and will always be. I am jealous of same of the folds available.

I have a iPhone 15 Pro Max as a daily driver and a Z Fold5 as on my company provided line. I love them both, use the iPhone when out and about and for iMessage, use the Z Fold5 when at home and free time.

Longtime viewer and IPhone user. I will be first in line to get a foldable iPhone. I’ve always wanted one and the Google Pixel Fold was going to be my first foldable but then my order mysteriously got cancelled and they dropped the trade in value for my iPhone 14 Pro by so much that it didn’t make sense to trade in anymore.

Pixel fold 2 and z fold 6 should do anyone looking a step that way. Just make sure you insure it. I’ve been iPhone years but little interest In folding phones myself.

The hinge isn't the weak part of these foldable displays, it's the display itself. So having it bigger wouldn't be better for durability, rather it would be quite worse This is because these displays can't be made out of gorilla glass like for non folding devices, so you're touching weak plastic that's easily gauged, punctrured and more... Having the olded itself be folded also makes it more sensitive to drops, since it's got more internal constraints in the folded state, explaining why dropping your folding device when folded can still kill its display

Apple had been cited by multiple sources saying they’ve been working on foldable tech for the last decade. One thing you have to remember about Apple is they are very specific in what and how their products are made regardless of who supplies them. I’m going to guess they probably signed a deal will Samsung to utilize the existing infrastructure to build folding displays but yet it will be to Apples specific specs and most likely won’t be the same display you find on the Galaxy Fold. Atleast not right away.

Regardless if Apple decides to go with a foldable or not, I am not getting one. I can already imagine their ludicrous entry level pricing. I still prefer the slab phone and laptop approach.

I'm still scratching my head over this one. Perhaps Apple wants to make a folding device, sure, but a folding iPhone. The iPhone is the financial behemoth for Apple and I just can't fathom them messing with the formula here.

I've always used an iPhone, and I think Apple will always be behind Samsung and other companies now that Steve Jobs died. Their hardware is amazing, but their closed Ecosystem is what is turning a lot of people off. You have a LOT more flexibility with Android.

The actual take that will happen is android fanboys saying "we've had folding phones for years" despite Apple doing something with it that's actually cool, not just make a folding phone. It's also likely just to use a malleable display, not necessarily a folding phone.

Please let it be a fold not a flip. I’d be all over a folding phone where I could just walk into an Apple Store and get it fixed rather than mailing it off. I don’t even like Apple like that but that would make the random failures not so bad.

Apple's pretty powerful iPad pro being the thinnest device they ever made perfectly aligns with foldable phones/devices. Can't wait till Apple crushes this so much that samsung users switch over. Seriously Samsung has been playing it WAY to safe and I want to see Apple crush them. They had their chance to bring foldables to mainstream #1 market share and failed miserably, its time Apple gets the job done. I still mainly use my android and samsung foldable phones but tired of these little iterations every year to foldables. There needs to be a game changer and Apple might just bring that, they certainly have the resources to, will they have the risk too? I remember apple fanboys saying omg android phones are too big at like 6" or so, when iphone 4/5 were mainstream. No one skipped a beat when larger iPhones replaced it quickly, same possibility with foldable iPhones. Hope Apple crushes it with their dual screen or foldable laptops too. Maybe we will get a new innovation/risk era with Apple. As Samsung has been way too conservative imo
