This is an unboxing and comparison between Apple Watch Series 6 Hermes Space Black version and Graphite. I demonstrate how each looks on different bands, I hope this helps show the difference between the 2.
Something to note that was left out: The graphite version uses PVD stainless steel while the Hermes space black uses DLC stainless steel. To simplify, basically the Hermes space black is more scratch resistant and durable as it uses a diamond coating. So yes, even though the Hermes version is more expensive, the quality will make it last a long time!
@@DougFNJ Managed to get it yesterday morning and it looks stunning. This is only my second Apple watch, with the first being a Gen 4 aluminum version, so this feels like a huge upgrade. The Milanese loop can get a little loose when exercising and it's a slightly heavier watch compared my my old one. As such, I've decided to use the series 4 for exercise to save having to swap the bands over, along with the lighter weight and I'll use the series 6 for every day use. It was a nice surprise to find out the Iphone can manage multiple Apple watches and automatically switches, based on which one you're wearing. This is great, as it feels like I'm getting a bit more life out of the old one, instead of it just sitting in a draw.
Thanks man! I was doubting between the saddle brown leather and the milanese, so this comparison is perfect! I think the milanese looks slightly better.
It’s slightly off depending on lighting. There is kind of a bronze hue to the Space Black Titanium in some lighting. I did a comparison last year on the Steel and Titanium here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IPpTSV7pfQ0.html
Thank you so much for this! This is exactly what I was looking for. I have a Series 4 Space Grey and I just bought a Series 6 Graphite, but I was a bit upset Apple discontinued the Space Black. I was worried the Graphite wouldn't be dark enough but it looks like it's darker than I thought. Also massive thanks for trying the Space Black Link Bracelet. Really upset that it doesn't match the new Graphite Watch really. I don't know what Apple's though process was behind the weirdness with this. I think it's to do with branding/costing. Last year EE (my mobile network) didn't offer a Stainless Steel watch at all and this year they offer only one, the Graphite.
Thank you for watching and taking time to comment. If Apple offered a graphite link bracelet, I likely would had gone that direction. Graphite looks great, but I prefer the Space Black, it’s such a deep black, and the screen blends in so well.
@@DougFNJ Normally I wouldn't think about buying a previous gen device, but so little changed between the Series 5 and 6 that I do wonder whether I would prefer the Space Black Series 5, but also we can probably expect a Graphite Series 7 as well, probably.
Jamie I think that would be very sales dependent. I would hope they would bring Space Black in as a regular offering, very curious how that will play out. If the blood oxygen isn’t important to you, you’ll be very happy with the Series 5.
Thank you for this comparison. I am coming from Apple Watch Series 4 Aluminum and wanted to see the comparison between space black and graphite. the Hermes Space Black is definetly darker and is the one to get for my next Apple Watch upgrade. However I would have to check out the Apple Watch Ultra in person before making my final decision since I have a small wrist.
My Ultra is already on preorder, should be receiving Friday, and I plan to get that video out soon after which will include a comparison to the Space Black Hermes Series 7.
Thanks man, great comparison, exactly what i was looking for over the internet. But i still have some question... On apple website all images of graphite color have some slightly green tint (at least it's looks like...), and also in your video when you put back graphite watch to the box at 4:25, looks like it have some greenish shadow casted on white box. So, can you please clarify - is there really any green tint appear with graphite version, or my eyes just cheating me and actually there is pure grey tint? Thank You!
Thanks for watching. The green tint may had been my shirt is the only thing I could think, I’m not seeing any tint. High polish finish is so hard to work with cameras and lighting.
Hello. Excellent an very informative video thank you. I had just ordered mine in space black but my only real concern is, is it scratch resistant all together or to what level and degree?? Thank you an thank you for your timely response
You can make an argument that it looks like aluminum. It all comes down to your preference of matte finish vs polished. All preference, you cant go wrong with either.
With the WatchOS 7 updates, particularly with the faces, and the new band selection, I have been feeling like this is the first time I bought the watch again....and I have had every generation.
The Edition Titanium Watches will also have power blocks. Mine is out for delivery. I checked the contents when I ordered. And mine also comes in Space Black. That’s the watch for me. 👌
Did your Milanese loop come jacked up (kinked) or was that something you did? I was hoping you would mention it. What did you do about it? I ordered the graphite with the milanese loop and i'm wondering if its a pain to replace if mine comes like this too. Im assuming its new because you took the stickers off.
It didn’t come like that, but it is easy to straighten out by pressing on the kinks. Takes seconds. I’m actually not a big fan of Milanese personally, and I know people that love it. It’s a little too thin for my wrist.
@@DougFNJ can’t wait! I want to use the lucky horse watch face so badly as since I have gotten my series 8 silver stainless regular yesterday I have started to like more simpler Watch faces.
Does the graphite watch look nice with the noir Hermès band? I never saw in this video the watch and band together you only mentioned it would be fine?
I think the graphite will be fine on any strap, my only issue was it didn't match up as much as I wanted to with the Space Black Link bracelet. The one advantage of the graphite, if you like Hermes straps, it will work with pretty much any of them.
I purchased the original version of the Apple Watch with the bracelet and have worn it on every watch since. They can typically be found on Apple's Website, or a lower prices on Ebay.
DougFNJ I haven’t uploaded photos but it really is horrible. Apple also denied they were at fault and it took me MONTHS of back and forth with them to have the watch replaced.
@@DougFNJ did i miss something? You said they took feedback from it but i have the series 6 stainless steel with the Milanaise band and my watch scratched within 2 days on the case and display and they don’t wanna replace it because it’s „cosmetic damage“
Firstly, nice review, I always enjoy a good comparo, well done sir 👍 I do wish to say though, I have slightly hairy arms and the Milanese straps are absolutely horrible in my opinion. 1 tiny hair snags in there and pulls, suddenly a feeling of hatred spreads throughout my entire being and to everyone I come across over the next 30 mins lol. I hope you have a better experience than I did with them! 🤗
Thanks for this. I have a good amount invested in my bands that are for the space black (apple link, Milanese, etc). Since it feels like Apple is forcing people to pay more just for continuity in color, I'll just skip the Series 6 all together.
Great review, I was wishing to get a space black stainless steel before series 6 comes out, while I’m rocking the aluminum series 3 with the black link bracelet. But now, the graphite is quite disappointed for me, and the Hermès edition is quite a lot more expensive than the graphite.
My office is 10 minutes out of New York City. I saw it was available at the 5th Avenue store, ordered online for pickup, drove in and and got it. I got lucky.
I was able to get the regular stainless steel on “pre-order” for launch and as much as i want a dark colored watch, if i ever see a minor paint chipping away will bother me forever.
Interesting video! Not many people knows about this quirk, Apple changed the Milanese loop color to match the new Watch, So if you buy the old loop still on sale on some websites it won’t match your series six
DougFNJ I’ve always had space grey aluminum Apple Watches. This time I ordered a graphite steel version with graphite Milanese loop, I am very careful when I take it off and on, hopefully it will arrive on Friday. From videos the difference between the space black and this new graphite is subtle, maybe in real life I will notice more. Next year I would like to try the space black titanium even though it looks like a different aluminum finish.
Definitely comes to taste. Its got a great finish, and the people that purchased have been very happy with the gold color on this one. Let us know what you think wen you get it!
High strength magnetic which is not safe if you have a pacemaker. If whilst asleep you should move and your strap be placed by your pacemaker it WILL affect the pacemaker.
Are you referring to the charging battery on the back? I know it’s an issue brought up with MagSafe on the newer iPhones, but the charging magnet isn’t that strong, I’d talk to a doctor first of course.
Power adapter is only included with Hermes and Titanium Edition versions. They are also the only versions that get 2 sets of straps. Which Titanium did you get?
@@DougFNJ ah ok interesting. I got the black one. It’s great. Only annoying thing is it won’t connect to my iPhone now because the watch app keeps crashing. Have to figure out what to do with that.
When I have crashing issues I always close all apps and reboot. Then I press the up, down volume then hold the power button and keep held until the screen turns off....keep the button pressed until you see the Apple logo and then let the button go, that should fix your problem.
I was listening to a podcast that made an interesting point....still doesn’t justify moving Space Black to Hermes exclusively. Rene Ritchie was saying Space Black was initially made to transition seamlessly from screen to case to offset the fact that the screen turned off. Once they went always on, it wasn’t as necessary, so they moved to Graphite as a darker stainless steel. You are right, they should move the Ceramic to the Hermes to really upscale it, and give us the choice back with Space Black.
DougFNJ most people are just going to think you have the old watch considering space black isn’t a universal option. Not that I care but it was just silly and the reality is the stainless silver looks better with leather bands and I could be wrong but I think the Hermès black lugged bands only come with the watch otherwise all silver lugs for purchase if you want to switch bands.
Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. This video was specifically for comparison purposes. I just uploaded the Hermès full review here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ro_ya4vJm-w.html
I have a space black series 4 and had ordered the Hermès strap, and the leather is unparalleled but the only frustrating thing is that I have a similar wrist size to you and on the last hole of the strap it is pretty tight on my wrist... I had to send it back. I wish they would introduce an option for a slightly longer band like they do for most other straps (s/m and m/l). Think I might hold off on upgrading again this year, I like the darkness of the space black, I feel like the graphite was an unnecessary change but maybe they felt it was a marketing thing to further differentiate from series 5. The gold stainless steel looks pretty awesome though, glad they did a more true gold instead of the pink “gold”
Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. I’m wondering if they may had made the strap longer? I’m on the 3rd hole from the end and find it sizes great with enough length. I wear mine loose enough where I could fit my forefinger between the strap and my wrist.
Elliot Huang the Milanese loop bracelet is PVC, the watch case is DLC. I think they moved the strap to PVC because the DLC finish on the strap scratched the finish on the case and ceramic back.
Hermès is French and you don’t pronounce the ‘h’ in the French language. Great video. I also got the black before but not into paying a huge premium for it.
Mike Mo If you’ve ever seen a Space Black Link Bracelet you’d understand. It’s the best watch band. Also I was about to buy one this morning but it appears they stopped selling them overnight, no joke. Shows up in search but the “limited pre-order” page now throws an error. Bummer.
Harvey017 it was 3 years with 4. i see it is 2 years now but they extended that to stainless too ... i don’t remember my stainless4 has more than 90 days warranty
Louis Y Really? Never bought the Hermès before so that’s definitely a plus if you’re dishing out the extra money. But I don’t think the stainless is 90 days, has to be at least one year.
As of now, to get the Series 6 in Space Black you have to get Hermès. The Warranty is 2 years, AppleCare plus gives you accidental damage as well and extends it an extra year to 3 years.
Yeah it’s ridiculous, I’m so annoyed I own the regular Space Black Series 4 but I bought the Hermes band separately recently, and I was hoping to just buy the Series 6 and use my old band on it, but now the lugs (connectors) won’t match! And the worst part is the new Hermes one is Space Black so I can’t just buy a new watch band with the Graphite lugs This makes no sense to me to be quite honest
DougFNJ definitely not “air” it’s pronounced ermès with a little aspiration on the first e. Your pronunciation is good, just put the accent on the last e
They are both the same size. Sometimes the color difference creates the illusion. Hermes Apple watches are the same exact Apple Watch just with the Hermes branding, watch faces, packaging, and of course the straps.
Thank you No OPEC, I always appreciate the feedback. you are 100% correct, lol got a lot of grief on my pronunciation. Fixed that in my other Hermes reviews 😬👍
@@DougFNJ Oh you’re good! You know only the super snooty people pronounce it properly! I’ve had Apple Watches since series 0, get my first Hermes this week, so watching a few reviews of the allegedly amazing coveted AIR-MEZ model.
@@NO_OPEC_NO_PROBLEM It’s the best leather I’ve worn on a watch. The faces are a bit of an exclusive perk, but the leather is incredible. Still annoys me that Hermes is the only way I could get Space Black which I’ve been getting since series 0. Which version did you get?
@@DougFNJ I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Hermès’ leather bands. I got the space black version with black leather band. I really wanted the orange band, but I’ve had polished stainless before and can’t stand the micro scratches. Coming from a natural platinum AW5 at the moment. It never shows any scratches, but there’s so something about the Hermes I always wanted.
Criticize away George, I was not happy about it, and from reviews and forums, we are not alone. I initially bought both the Graphite and Space Black first to review here, and second to decide. If I wasn't so attached to my Link band it wouldn't had bothered me as much. In the end, for me, the straps are worth it. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple brings Space Black back to the regular lineup.
DougFNJ I just find it curious that channels are not mentioning this... I mean, there is not much to talk about the new version besides colour and the blood ox... so failing to discuss what significant shifts have been made that impact consumers (especially those with space black previous models, I see as a negligent failure... or commentators a little hesitant or even afraid to point this out. *sponsored content etc
@@GeorgeLista I get where you are coming from George. I don't tend to get too critical on my channel. I primarily put this together to walk through watches and features. I try to source hard to find watches so if someone cannot gain access, I give as much information as possible to be a resource. I did mention I thought it was kind of ridiculous to remove the power block, keep the price, and announce that omission as a feature. I do some sponsored videos, these Apple Watch videos are not. I am not sponsored by Apple, I paid for this myself, and unless its completely unrelated or hostile, I never delete comments like yours, and welcome an open forum to talk about it. I do agree with you though, I was not very happy about moving Space Black to Hermes only. Graphite is not bad....but there is nothing like that Space Black finish.
DougFNJ wasn’t criticising you directly, I’ve been watching videos on the 6 for the last few days, and not one person has pulled Apple up on this. It seems weak to me - looking at the collective commentary on RU-vid that’s all. Not meant to be personally critical.
@@GeorgeLista Definitely didn't take it that way George, I appreciate the comment, and posted about it in my community section to discuss. I was giving you a perspective on why some channels may not had brought it up, I'm sure there are some that won't because they are on Apple's "list". Feel free to click the community tab and add to the discussion. Thank you for taking the time to comment, I do appreciate it.
They have such a high polish finish, it is hard to tell. I saw the review on Forbes with one of the better photos really showing the best example of the difference. Look at the photos in this article. www.forbes.com/sites/davidphelan/2020/09/17/apple-watch-series-6--apple-watch-se-1st-look-review-handsome--useful-upgrades/
For all that money I can’t believe they put the watch face in that cardboard. Hermès is elegant and should be treated so. Very disappointed. Great video though.
