Another great video, I bought my Apple Watch 8 at the beginning of January and immediately started receiving AF warnings. Contacted my doctor who got me in the same day for an ECG, this was confirmed two months later by a 24 hour ECG from my local hospital. This confirmed my AF and I’m now on medication. Very grateful for this warning as both my grandparents died at a relatively early age from a stroke.

Honestly, this is serious stuff. I'm so glad you posted a comment. I hope others read it and take note. The Apple Watch has saved a lot of lives. Thanks so much for watching!

Purchased two Apple Watches, one each for me and my wife. Set up the fall detect with SOS, my wife’s mobile number and my two neighbours numbers. I had a bad fall fracturing my femur. SOS worked but I cancelled it and told “Siri” to ring my wife who was at the other end of our home. Worked perfect, other than four months in hospital recovering.😏

I think these safety features really fly below the radar. And they shouldn't. Fracturing the femur is a major hit. So glad you've mended. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Rich Love your videos but this one has an annoying Background hum on my computer -I checked other you tube videos and -sorry it only came through on your video-this is the first time i heard it and never on your other videos
@RichBowlin

I never heard that when I published it but others said the same. I took it down and sure enough there was the annoying buzz. I remixed the audio and reduced it as best I could. It got rid of most of it but it's still there. So sorry. I found the culprit in my studio. The mic cable was near an electrical cable which is a no-no. At least there will be no buzzing in future videos!

Great video! I’ve got an Apple Watch around Christmas time basically to help with my fitness and I already had an Apple phone and I had done most of the things you were talking about on my phone but just wanted to make sure I had set up my Apple Watch properly to get my emergency contacts which I had. I’ve seen a few videos of people talking about the Apple Watch being really good for old age, pensioners, but you have to understand that most senior citizens don’t have an apple phone because back in the day they never had mobile phones and they’re not up with the technology and they just want a basic mobile phone. Well I was watching your video. I could hear a buzzing noise in the background and I thought there was something wrong with my iPad so I stopped your video and went onto another video and it wasn’t my iPad. It was something to do with the noise coming from your video.

Hello Rich, I just found your videos and really enjoy watching and learning from you as I am a newbie with Apple watch. I just go the SE2 and I am really considering now exchanging it for the cellular version. Anyway, my question is this: in emergency contacts, will the watch call my contact even if this person only has a residential landline and no cell phone or does the emergency contact need to have a cell phone???

If you do end up buying the watch you'll be surprised at how handy it is. I bought my wife an Apple Watch (and she doesn't like tech stuff at all) and she wears it every day. You can check the weather, make phone calls, read and send messages...just so many things. Thanks so much for watching!

Thanks for your great videos. Here’s my dumb question: I want to buy an Apple Watch, but how do I connect it to my iPhone 12 Pro Max? I can’t go to a store, so I’ll need to buy online. No kids to help, just me. I’ll need to do it myself.

You pair it with your phone. When you turn the watch on, a weird looking barcode will show up. You point your iPhone camera at the barcode and it pairs automatically. Then just follow the directions that pop up on your watch and phone, wait a bit and everything sets up in a few minutes! Hope this helps.

Actually I leave my iPhone in the drawer. I use a Samsung S23. My Apple Watch is on Verizon. I pay $15.00 a month. Because I don’t use an iPhone anymore the watch ONLY calls 911 on a cellular account or Wi-Fi if present. I still get fall detection and heart rate monitoring. Absolutely don’t need all the other bells and whistles.

Is the reason you also need the phone is that is how you put your emergency contacts into the watch etc.? I will be getting an Apple phone in the future when my husband retires in 10 months but now I have an android phone and I don't want a android smartwatch. Can I still use the cellular feature (that Apple agreed I can use when I spoke to them this week) it to call 911 via the watch only if I don't have a phone to set it up with? Or do you not know since you think you have to have an Apple phone. I need it for fall detection primarily at this point. I don't want a medical bracelet or necklace. I'm only 64 and would benefit from the watch more. This is a big purchase and I want to get it right. Thank you.
@RichBowlin
@RichBowlin 4 месяца назад
So I'll be 64 in a few months and can relate. You do need, at least for now, an iPhone to setup the watch. So it's not like you can just buy an Apple Watch with cellular service and start using it. You might ask Apple how do you set up the watch without an iPhone? If you have a family member with an iPhone, they can set it up for you and you're good to go. Once it's setup, you don't need to carry your phone with you. You can make calls, listen to music and podcasts, and have all the safety benefits too.

@@RichBowlin Yes, I figured it out last night too when speaking to a close friend who has an iPhone and watch too. I'll just wait until we get the iPhone to set it up. I'm hoping once his company merges with another that my husband can get the iPhone and than I can get the watch too. Until then I'll just wait since none of us have one. I don't want to set it up with a friend's account. It isn't dire that I have one now. Although I wonder if I'll be able to attach it to his work account. I'll just have to wait and see until then. Thanks for your help.

Great video. However, I have a little bit doubts if the Apple watch will work for everyone. Many people are familiar with touch screens now, but people over a certain age want physical buttons. Like an SOS button or a button to call someone. If they have to swipe something to call it's already too difficult for people who are old or don't know modern technology. They don't know how swipe works if they are from 3 or 4 generations back because they grew up with complete other technology.
@RichBowlin
@RichBowlin 10 месяцев назад
That's a good point. The new Apple Watch Ultra helps with that. Plus crash detection and fall detection work without any interaction. My mom is not interested in an Apple Watch but I know a lot of seniors who are. Thanks so much for watching!
@pascalillustration3650
@pascalillustration3650 10 месяцев назад
@@RichBowlinMaybe I should reconsider my view about the Apple watch. Recently I bought an alarm watch for someone. It has 3 physical buttons: button 1 & 2 for two phone numbers and an SOS button. It looked like it couldn't be easier. But I don't know why, but sometimes the alarm goes of without clear reason and if you try to activate it it doesn't work like it should be. Maybe the physical buttons watches are not that great... I don't know. Almost everything is touch now.

Can you please help with passwords. It’s driving me crazy trying to create and then recall passwords. If there could only be one basic one for iPad, iPhone iMac etc it would be so helpful for those of us in our 80s and short term memory loss. I have mine typed in alpha order but cannot understand which password is being required sometimes.

Yes, passwords are rough. All of them are stored in your iPhone in the settings app and you can find them there. But even so, it's not the easiest thing. I'm thinking about making a video on passwords. But I wish I could help you more in this comment. Good luck!
@deserthorses
@deserthorses 10 месяцев назад
I only have three passwords to remember - one for my MacBook, one for my phone, and one for my watch. All the other passwords I ever need for everything are put away in "keychain". If you're in a "senior" community, there's bound to be at least one Apple nerd who would be delighted to help you with setting up for touch and face id. If close enough, Apple stores have classes or you can reserve time at their Genius Bar.

Best tutorial ever. Nevertheless, please slow down when showing us where to find an item in the branching menus. We need a pause for our eyes to focus on a particular icon or route to an icon. For example, I missed the “Watch” icon connection for first setting up my iPhone. You whizzed right by it as though I had always known that it was there on some iPhone menu. Yikes. These videos become like a shell game for the eyes. Yours is still the best, and I appreciate being able to enlarge the view,stop the video on the visual inset, and look closer. But I’m still wondering if the health function on my iPhone is an app that I need to purchase from the Apple Store. I’ll figure it out. Many thanks.
