An explanation of how to make a greeting card using a paper napkin as your art for the card. You need an iron, a kitchen towel, decorative paper napkin, blank card, sheet of plain white printer paper and cling wrap.
I like how you walked us through the entire process without a bunch of edits. You had all of your materials ready to go, and you made it clear that there might be bumps in the road- and how to fix them. Nice video tutorial, thank you. ~TH~
Me too! It’s a generational thing,I think. “Practice makes perfect” & “try and try again”. Don’t worry of failure, not like lots of RU-vid videos, probably edited 100’s of time, too ashamed to show the mistakes along the way!Hence, the younger viewers get stressed if they cannot follow tutorials to a “T” I’ve seen it first hand, not a pretty sight 😳
I have vintage napkins from different events my aunts would attend. They wrote the date, who went, what kind of event they were attending - and NOW I have a way to preserve them! Thank you so much!
Me too. The crazy culture we live in affords us no peace and quiet. I personally think that is why we have so many cases of insanity. Every store, supermarket, waiting room, restaurant, gas station, mall, etc. play audio with lyrics that repeat themselves over and over by a singer whose range is not even an octave. I wish there could be a law outlawing the omnipresent racket. It is deplorable.
@@monicafarrington7798 I agree completely. Even more annoying - to me, at least - is vocalists who "gussy up" the tune, adding trills and do-wops that aren't in the original. Sing it the way it was written, or write your own song!
@@LadyAnneJT Yes, all those extra notes are sooo annoying. Years ago I had some singing lessons. The teacher used to describe those excursions off the score as "going off into voice land." All those embellishments are particularly annoying to me when it comes to the STAR SPANGLED BANNER. As you say, sing it the way it was written or write your own song! Yes!
So like others I don’t know why youtube recommended me this, however I stayed and watched it. Thanks for showing the full process I think that’s really commendable because I too get frustrated with projects I work on and always think I am doing it wrong due to others skipping over the trial and error process.
I literally have a great aunt that has an entire craft room and she makes her own cards. She’s got freckles on her arms like this lady does to so it’s all I could think about 😂 I lost it when I saw this comment
Shows how old I am when I’m hearing this I didn’t question it 🤣😂🤣😂 Great idea too,I never buy fancy serviettes as they aren’t soft enough, but now I know there’s a good use for them!
Whoever gets a card like this from you should feel very special indeed. Not only is it lovely, but you took time and real care to create it. Thanks so much for sharing!
What a delight you are! I ran across this video randomly whilst looking for some tips on a diy pen/pencil roll (no sewing machine). I’m so glad I clicked! Not only have I learned a neat way to showcase an often given gift from my mother, one plate and napkin set from Tuesday Morning. They are always “special” and leapt out just for her, for me. (Yes, I love my mama!). But I don’t always find use for every set. So, now It’s art AND what’s better, it’s proof of appreciation! Anyone with a mom that lets you know just how much thought and care went into a $1 gift will understand the need for pageantry. Not only that amazing gift, but I loved just listening to Janeda! Soothing and sassy...thank you for being you!
I was today years old when I found out this was a thing. I don’t see myself ever doing this particular craft, but I’m gonna store that technique for future projects. Kudos of the great tutorial!
YES!! I was thinking the same thing!! Parchment paper on bottom instead of dish towel, parchment paper on top instead of piece of paper and nothing will stick. And if it sticks it slides right off and you can keep using the same parchment paper over and over because it holds up so well to the heat!
What is parchment paper pls ? Hold on, I looked it up in Linguee for a better translation in French than "parchemin", and I think now what you recommend is probably "papier de cuisson" or "papier sulfurisé" which you cover cakes with in the oven ..
Not everything is jealousy. I disliked the video simply because of the use of plastic wrap to 'glue' the napkin. It's absolutely unnecessary and can be accomplished with glue the same way.
@@twischta because you would do it a different way doesn't make her way "bad" -warrenting a thumbs down! Beauty as they say is in the eye of the beholder. Perhaps I am incorrect-but you sound arrogant! Humility is being able to do something a better or different way and being GRACIOUS to the other person. If I have read your attitude incorrectly I apologize-IF NOT LOOK FOR SOME GRACE AND HUMILITY!
@@sharonb.7867 Well, I simply stated *why* I disliked the video. I never said the way I would do it was better in terms of technique. I thumbed it down because of the unnecessary use of plastic, simple as that. If that makes me arrogant, so be it. Btw. this never had anything to do with beauty or anything. It's simply the fact of using stuff that is absolutely detrimental to the environment just to make it a smidge more comfortable to the crafter. There is enough glue available that has the same effect as saran wrap when ironed with a lot less impact on the environment. From the way you sound, I guess you are one of those people that laminate each and everything just to throw it in a landfill a month later, right? Oh well, I am off to learn some grace and humility... without having to scream and throw a tantrum in a comment using all caps. Have a nice life.
Shamayne - Sadly, you are delusional. Glue (or even paste) would tear up and dissolve that napkin to bits and you would have bubbles and wrinkling all over the card. The only other alternative would be laminate - which would not be cost effective and you would lose the texture and cloth like feel of the napkin. Plastic wrap is also the most “green” method I can think of (please let me know if I’m mistaken). I’m totally fascinated by people’s arrogance when they clearly have no clue what they are talking about. I guess you had the need to feel important? You failed miserably. Try sniffing the glue instead.
I was actually looking for train trips in Switzerland when this randomly appeared! I’ll probably never do it but I found it very relaxing and enjoyable to watch..thank you!
I remember when HGTV and DIY were like this. I loved those diy craft shows. Now all it is is expensive house remodeling, over and over......not a diy project in sight
wendyg311 I know. Remember Alene's crafts show? Those were the good old days. I loved that show. ❤️❤️ They never put ANY crafts shows on at all whatsoever on those channels anymore!!! I mean why not?? I don't get it! Makes me upset. Crafters unite!!!😏😏
She kind of reminded me of Carol Duvall with a southern accent. I kept thinking I have to get off this computer, got things to do, but was riveted to the end.
Hey thanks for the new technique and here's something to try to separate your napkins. Just take a small piece of that blue paint tape or washi tape. Just stick it lightly to one corner of the back of your napkins. Thank you again
i love everything, showing us that it's difficult to get the second ply of paper off, adjusting the design, sealing the edges. The comments about irons and that not everything is perfect and the lovely sense of humour. What a delightful lady!
I just found you. Thank you for showing us all the stuff that may happen. Like you said, none of us are perfect and it is nice to see how you fix anything that goes wrong. Awesome demo.
This video is great! She tells it like it is. She even tells us how to fix the problems like getting the napkin separated and making sure the corners are stuck. She reminds me of how my mom used to teach us kids. Love it!
I love how you walked us through the whole process step by step.... no edits no nothing... you are very upfront and honest... thank you so very much for sharing this video with us...
I just started watching your video and my neighbour decided to mow his lawns so I couldn't hear a word you said, read your comments the ladies like your video and methods so I will watch it later, hi from Australia
I love seeing the creative work of people who think outside the box, and I too appreciate seeing the whole project! Now off to the store to get some fancy napkins!
I was looking on how to build water proof outdoor cat houses. This popped up and I decided to watch it. I love the idea and had heard about this, but never actually looked into it. Thank you for being "real" in your video.
I saved this and had to watch it again. I just thought it was so clever. I've come across some really clever printed napkins while shopping and would have loved to have known about this process then so I could have turned them into cards for friends. Many thanks for sharing your ideas!
Loved this video! I always wondered how this was done, even though I knew it used the plastic wrap, I still couldn't "wrap" my head around it. lol Your process was perfect and I loved that you kept the "bumps" in to show how things can go wrong, but how you can fix them. Thanks so much! Hugs, Brenda
So glad I stumbled upon this. I remember waaaaaay back in my youth using this kind of a technique to apply fabric "patches" cut into shapes on bluejeans for decoration. If I remember correctly it held up great for a surprising number of washes. My wonderful proto-sister-in-law just sent me some delightful fancy-schmancy paper napkins and I think I'm going to try this with them. Thanks!
This nice lady has the patience of Job and she is a very good teacher. No background/music is wonderful. I only hope she does not have to make too many cards, and the recipients will appreciate her time and effort she puts into them..
I use parchment paper instead of printer paper. Things that might accidentally get stuck on the plate of the iron can be removed with a dryer sheet, rubbed on while the iron is hot. Be careful not to burn yourself. Used dryer sheets will work as well.
i have these really pretty floral napkins from spring i'm gonna use for cards now. i fiddled with it once using glue and it was a nightmare so i'll be trying this! thank you so much
This is something I watched on the carol Duvall show with my mom many many years ago. Loved her show. She was the first craft lady/queen on tv I think. Loved this. It brought many wonderful memories back.
this popped up whenI i was on an online framing site. but i am glad it did. Janeda, I appreciate your no-nonsence, relatable tutorial! Looking forward to using this on my wedding napkins for thank you cards.
Beautiful card. I’m glad I came across your tutorial. I love how you show where mistakes can happen and how to fix them! I’ll definitely be looking for your tutorials!!! Thanks bunches for giving me new inspiration!!!
you are a kick ass real chick!! Love your casual approach and attitude. If everyone could go through life the same way you made your card there would be happier people.
Just watched this and saved it to, what a lovely way for me to make Christmas cards this year for my daughters school fair, thank you so much. Watching form south wales in the uk xx
RU-vid recommended me this video and for once I'm so glad they did bc this video was so wholesome and sweet and I actually learned something new and crafty! I love it. Thank you so much Jan! 💞
This is lovely, a beautiful card made from materials that we all have at home. Thank you for showing us how simple it can be to make something so impressive, but particularly, thank you for showing us that everything isn’t instantly perfect. This was a really interesting, helpful and informative video.
I cannot thank you enough for this idea. I really do see some beautiful napkins and think, what a waste to toss them out. This is a fantastic idea for upcycling. Thank you very much ❤
You’re totally my hero right now! I’m so excited about all the things I can do with this concept. Thank you for sharing this with us!!! ~Sheeara, Alaska
Wow! I've never seen this way of making a card before. I love this! I have several miscellaneous napkins left over from birthdays, Christmas, etc., and this would be a perfect way to use them up! Thank you!!!
We ALL NEED the info in this random video recommendation. This might be the prelude to preparing for the only jobs left available in the wrecked American economy. Not everyone can be a software engineer. This iron-on napkin application could be the only job left for most of us. Pay careful attention! Most of us are already unemployed or underemployed as demonstrated by the fact that we are all up watching this in the wee hours of the night...
Now, that is really cool! What a sweet system, I bet this would be useful for all kinds of different applications. Thanks for the demo, and inspiration.
Your site popped up on my RU-vid, so I thought I would watch it. Well! I have never seen this done before, how amazing. You certainly have a wonderful sense of humour, the iron comment made me laugh and laugh. I am an abstract artist and have never tried anything like this, I feel I should give it a go. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us..Cheers from Australia August 2019.
