Trump administration appointee Carl Higbie resigned Thursday as chief of external affairs for the federal government's volunteer service organization after a CNN KFile review of racist, sexist, anti-Muslim and anti-LGBT comments he made on the radio.
"Effective immediately, Carl Higbie has resigned as Chief of External Affairs at CNCS," Samantha Jo Warfield, a spokesperson for CNCS, said in a statement.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Higbie's resignation. Higbie did not respond to multiple requests for comment on Thursday.
In a tweet Friday morning, Higbie apologized for his comments.
"I'm sorry. I'm not sorry that my words were published, I am sorry that I said them in 2013," he wrote. "Those words do not reflect who I am or what I stand for, I regret saying them. Last night I informed the WH that I was resigning so as not to distract from POTUS' many success. #noexcuses”

There is no social welfare program that pays all your bills so you don't have to work. The few social programs remaining all have very strict income requirements as well as time limits and work requirements. The most anyone can claim is around $500 or so a month (totaling about $6,000 a year) for a five year period. Most receive far less. If the US joined the rest of the civilized world and provided universal health care, affordable child care, paid maternity leave, and a livable wage to its citizens, then people would not need to apply for government assistance to survive.

I'm just a Canadian old lady who ended up on disability brought on by working retail. Seriously. Even I know that PTSD is real, and has nothing to do with being "weak minded". I have killer insomnia from having spent too long living in dangerous conditions. My brain has decided that my go to survival trait is "not sleeping". Because that apparently will keep me safe from the crazy violent roommates. Even 4 years AFTER I ended up in a very nice place with a great roommate. I have a feeling that Mr. Higbie never saw any real action. I think he had the fancy uniform and wore it in an office pushing paper around. He may have been part of an administration section connected with the Navy SEALs, but I honestly can't see anyone who truly served as a SEAL in the field behaving like such a huge poop head. That's just one old Canadian woman's opinion. BTW, thank you for your service.

I served 9 years in the army and this is a problem you see when people don't question anything. They think the answer to any problem is a direct very violent act and it does work on the battlefield, but that is the only place it works. Give this man 10 years and hopefully he will have a different answer and attitude. We can only hope.

To all the progressives who are being dismissive of Trump's racism, saying it's not a real issue just a distraction, you are dead wrong/ Trumps racism is an issue because when he dehumanizes an entire segment of the population it causing racial resentment between different ethnic groups which effects this countries ability to function cohesively.
