Beekeeping - worldwide - has a long, diverse history. But you could not look at modern catalogs and determine that fact. Before beekeepers fully accepted "supering", they tried nadiring, eking, and collateral hives. Today, all that (mostly) remains is supering. Other artifacts, such as "medium brood foundation" and "division board feeders" are remnants of old historical dead ends. But old ideas can be refurbished and retried as technology changes.
