Plan was to do shorter easy skitour after big first day. Marmolada looked like a good idea since it is north facing and above 3000 m. Original plan Punta Penia (3343 m) - highest peak of Dolomites didn't looked skiable from our direction (in present conditions).
But next to it there was a line in the shade (between Punta Penia and Punta Rocca 3310 m). Higher we went better snow was under skis. When slope got enough angle we decided to do an ECT test since there was a lot of new snow and line above wasn't mellow. We were happy with the results, *not completely my hand hurt for some time after😅
Than the real work and beauty of the day started. From easy tour we were on a serious one. It was steep and deep. Ascending plates did a great job and we were soon on the saddle bellow Punta Penia. Views to the other side were spectacular.....Ombreta Orientale (3011 m), Sasso Vernale (3058 m), Sas De Valfreida (3003 m),....To reach top of the line there was one steep ascending/traversing part left. I put the plates of and do it with crampons and two ice axes. Probably the steepest ascend I have done yet but there was good snow. Now only skiing down is left. Deep powder on steep face - opened it up and enjoyed whole way down. Great skiing😊
Lower down we joined classic route and enjoyed spring conditions.
*driving back home we spoted few skiers on Gran Vernel (3210 m) north face - what a line💪
