you did not fail sully, being a (dog) mom is about making the hard decisions for what's best for the one in your care. that is an extremely tough decision and i'm so proud of you for facing it and making the best choice for sully ❤

You did your best! Sometimes a dog has needs that don’t align, and he’ll have a much better quality of life if he can find a less anxious situation! My sister had a dog with a bite history, and it’s so challenging and scary. Proud of you for recognizing when a change needed to be made!

You did not fail at all! You did everything you could for him, above and beyond what so many others would do. My mom went through something very similar with her rescue dog, Sasha. We got Sasha as a puppy from a rescue and we were told she was a dachshund mix. Turns out she was 75% German shepherd, 0% dachshund, and grew to be 70 lbs. She was a sweetheart inside but had fear based aggression outside of the house. My parent’s neighborhood had rules that they couldn’t put up a fence. More than once Sasha got away from my mom and over a few years she bit a neighbor’s dog and another neighbor’s child (both were not seriously injured, thankfully, but so upsetting.) My mom took Sasha to so many vets and behavioral specialists and learned that puppies can even inherit trauma through their mom if she was in a high stress environment while pregnant. A lot of times you can be the best dog parent you can, but they are already traumatized. All of that to say, I’m so sorry you went through this with Sully. You gave him a loving home and he is very lucky to have another chance through this rescue you found. Sending love & many thanks for sharing your & Sully’s story. ❤

After my rescue dogs I tell people thinking about it that you haven’t really experienced dog ownership until you’re sobbing on the floor. You love them so much but the lows can be the lowest. You should be so proud of how you worked through this. Also, great book chat as always! So looking forward to the mom video.

I had a similar situation with a dog that I had adopted as a puppy. When I adopted her, she only had 3 legs due to the abuse she had been subjected to as a young dog. I spent hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars over the next several years trying to help her be more confident but unfortunately her fear only escalated and she began lashing out through biting. I tried everything to find a new home for her, but after an incident that resulted in a level 5 bite, I had to make the hard decision to BE at the recommendation of our vet and trainers. I am so glad you were able to find a best case solution for Sully - You should be proud of recognizing that it may not be the best life for him and being able to find a solution that worked for everyone. I still live with the guilt of not being able to find those options for my dog, but am so glad to hear a positive outcome for once!

I’m so sorry you had to go through this and I totally understand why you’re feeling badly, but in my opinion, you did the best for Sully. I know other people who have kept dogs when it really was best to give them to an owner who could better meet their needs and it meant the dog was usually stressed, running away, putting other people’s dogs in danger etc. Recognizing you can’t care for Sully and finding someone who can hopefully give him a better life is something you should be proud of.

I'm pretty sure every dog/pet owner will say they're proud of you for doing what was best for Sully. Sometimes, no matter how much we love an animal and want to keep them in our lives, our homes may not be the best place for them, or we ourselves may not be the best fit for a variety of reasons. You made a very difficult decision with the love you had for him; you can be proud for working so hard to make sure he's happy.

I wanted to say that what you did was mature, brave and a very difficult thing to do and I have every praise for you! You did not fail Sully. Despite what some renditions of "adopt, don't buy" adverts have us believe, giving home to rescue pets can be difficult. There are many challenges that won't be solved by love and patience, no mutter how much of it. Some pets need professional help and very specific conditions, which can be very different from what we can offer them. I applaud you for working so hard to find a solution for Sully that didn't involve him being put to sleep. Though you'll not be able to care for Sully anymore, he'll remember all the wonderful love you have for him. I'm sure of that.

Tearing up right now-this must have been such a hard decision to make and took a lot of strength! And it’s clear in the way you kept researching how much care you’ve given to him and still have for him. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing this!

I have a pyr as well and I can’t imagine being in your situation, but I’m so so so glad to hear you found a better place for Sully, you did not fail him you put in so much time to find him somewhere safe after so many people told you there was nowhere for him. A lot of people would’ve given up much sooner, but what an incredible blessing that you were able to find someone equipped to handle the situation. Sending you so much love ❤️

Oh, Katie, I'm so sorry you have been through so much stuff recently! Please don't see yourself as a failure. Just by investing so much time and love into Sully's life, you've changed so much of his life to the better and now you even helped him to live another great chapter of his life. Not to even mention that you're doing way more than an average human. Please take care of yourself, you're doing such a great job ❤ sending so much love and support!

You did so well by Sully. Helping and training dogs with aggressive behaviors is something that people dedicate entire careers to, and I don't think that the average person is equipped for that task. There's no shame in that, and I don't think you failed him at all. It's beautiful that for the time you had him you were able to show him that there are people who are loving, safe, and won't hurt him, and that you did so much to find a place for him where he can thrive - so many people would not have done the same. Thank you for talking about this. Having pets always at some point or another means making really difficult decisions, and I think you can be 100% you made the right one. Feel all the feels, but know you did good.

Super proud of you for recognizing that he needed more help than you could give! I know it is incredibly difficult to go through a situation where you have to give up someone/something that meant a lot because the trust had been broken. Also super proud of you for doing your damnedest to make sure he wasn't euthanized simply because many people and places view that as an "easier" option. But you did your absolute best with the tools you had available and all the love in your heart and that is very clear to us!!! Take all the time you need we'll understand! I've started ACOTAR, so far I am enjoying it well, although I know Tamlin turns into a twat waffle to say the least so I am sad I don't get to experience the ""aww tamlin" moments as they happen and the shock factor of his character downfall lol. Other than that I have just been reading fluffy romance books and IPB books because my brain can't handle anything too intense since I am still acclimating to my new job

oh my goodness, your story about Sully made me cry! I hope he's super happy in his new home, and please don't keep beating yourself up about the situation. It sounds like you did your very best for him, and that's all anyone can do. On a different note, I really didn't like An Education in Malice either. I didn't realize it was a retelling, but a Dowry of Blood was one of my top books of 2023 so my expectations were really high, and I was so let down.

Expectation sounds, so interesting, and what have I done, can’t wait for the motherhood video! I really need to read Emily Henry books to see if I would like them, because I started booktube channel (and you are one of the booktubers that motivated me to do so) I think it would be interesting idea for reading vlog, trying Emily’s Henry books. I love that you read popular books, and books that are not that well known, because I get great book recommendations 💖 And, you reminded me to finally watch saltburn (I will watch it tonight)! I started crying because of Sully, I’m so proud of you for making very hard decision, you did the best, and tried everything. I hope Sully will feel better, and that he will heal, it’s so sad that people can hurt animals, you are not a failure, and at the end you didn’t gave up, and you found him new home💖 Im sending you big hug 🫂

You're not a bad dog mum, you did what was best for him by putting his needs above ur own with how he became... his happy now because of you and what u did for him. I had to do the same with my cat Shadow, she started becoming violent and I tried everything for her from training to the femmiway stuff and so much more but nothing worked. So I had to give her to a shelter that doesn’t put animals down but works with them and puts them in homes where they will be fine I send you huge hugs and I hope ur be ok, I know it hasn't been an easy discussion and it never is when u let go of a fury baby.

Fun stuff first. I’m so incredibly happy to hear your review of Everyone on this Train is a Suspect. Two of my friends hated the book. It turns out that they don’t like 4th wall narratives. It is hard to start a book that friends hate. Thank you for assuring me this 4th wall story is going to be a good read for me. I downloaded it on publication day. The second I finish my current book, I shall finally dive into this long-awaited read. Oh Katie, I’m so sorry to hear about Sully. Please know this wasn’t your fault in any way. We had a dog (Tiger) that we adopted from our local ASPCA. It was obvious that he was afraid of many things, including trash cans. We always wondered if the old fashioned metal cans had been used to traumatize him. When he was about 7 years old, I came home from school and reached over to pet him. He shot straight up and put his mouth completely around my neck. Fortunately for me, it was a warning, he held me for a few earth shattering seconds in a soft mouth grip. No scratches, or bruises. But the trust was gone. My parents took him to the vet that night (we had a wonderful veterinary practice that treated all our pets for more than 40 years). I don’t know the details, but the vet did put him down that night. Sending my love and support to you. PS: I adopted small dogs after that happened. There was no way I could trust any large dog after that. Small pups also make great companions. They often live longer than big dogs as well.

(I had a somewhat similar situation years back with an anxiously aggressive traumatized cat, luckily we were able to keep her but that's definitely not always the case and it's no one's fault.)
