Middle grade horror feels very close to cozy horror to me. Bonus points for me being a middle school teacher, so I get to read tons of it. YA horror, however? It’s always terrible and strange.
Oooo please watch Dead Ringers and Candyman! P.S. have you seen the latest Godzilla movie, Godzilla Minus One ? Would love to hear your thoughts. Also, I’m so glad to get your thoughts on Mexican Gothic and sooo glad you enjoyed it!
I'm currently reading Horror Movie and your thoughts make me so stoked to continue!! Also YAY to reading Every Time We Go on Vacation- we're so in sync!!
I really think you're going to love horror movie everyone seems to not be thrilled about it but if there's one person I can count on to love a Paul Tremblay it's you!!
I read Kismet earlier this year and it was just kind of meh for me. I was hoping it would be more beauty horror than it was and it definitely has a supernatural element that I wasn’t expecting based on the premise. Funnily enough, the ravens were my favorite part and were basically the only things that left a lasting impression other than the final twist at the end. All in all, you didn’t miss much by DNFing it 🙂
I'm doing Summerween super last minute so I didn't plan very well haha 😅 but the book I'm hoping to read for the five word title prompt is a graphic novel called A Guest In The House by E.M. Carroll! I've read Through the Woods by the same artist and absolutely loved it, and highly recommend at least searching up images from A Guest In The House to get a sense of the vibe because wowwww is the art so unbelievably gorgeous and creepy and stunning!!
for night sky cover AND summer horror book prompts, hear me out - "The Stars Did Wander Darkling" by Colin Meloy. fair warning it's middle grade but it had just enough creepy in it to be fun and it was SUCH an easy read! it has major Stranger Things vibes :)
So happy to see some love for "Horror Movie". I finished it a few days ago and am absolutely obsessed but I see so many negative reactions. It;s fine, I know Tremblay books are divisive, I haven't loved all of them myself, so I get it, it's not everyone's cup of tea. It's just nice to see some shared love here!
I am listening to Horror Movie on audio right now and the production is insane! I’m almost halfway through and some sound effects that just happened were A LOT lol I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it all the way through!
I won’t deny that I Mexican Gothic is a good book but I hated it. As a Mexican, the book is a caricature of Mexicans and Mexican culture. How are all the main character mainly white in a novel called Mexican Gothic?! You want a perfectly well done Mexican gothic novel, ready La Hacienda by Isabel Cañas. That is an actual gothic novel set in Mexico and celebrates Mexican culture.
I need to read Mexican gothic (love a disgusting book) Im interested in ale the books you read, and can’t decide which of them is the most interesting (maybe horror movie) I don’t know how this is possible, that I didn’t realize you are growing out our bangs 😅 I watch all of your videos, and just now, I am like ooo your bangs is missing 😂 I think you should watch the ring for me it’s one of the most iconic! I need to say as Bi I love how it was described in it came from the closet! I can’t wait for another vlogs of summerween ❤
OMG definitely finish Get Out, but I also think that an essay on Candy Man would probably be really interesting. After you read the essay, I would suggest checking out the podcast Ruined. The whole premise is they ruin a horror movie each week. I love the podcast and the conversations they have about it.
I love that you watched Godzilla! We just had a marathon and finished Godzilla x Kong! It was a good one. I’ll need to read Mexican Gothic - the sign has come! The Ring is SUCH a modern classic. Enjoy and can’t wait for Summerween Vlog #2!
I'm so glad you liked Mexican Gothic! I wrote my Bachelor's thesis on the book and how gothic tropes intersect with femininity and race, so I really appreciated what you had to say about its themes. On another note, I did not notice a difference in quality in the editing of this video so you should be good to go for when you are abroad. Great video as always!
I’m so glad you enjoyed Mexican Gothic! It was my first horror and one of my favorite reads last year. Now I want to read more horror! Do you have any recommendations of horror books that take place in a similar creepy setting/house and also have scary dreams? I loved those aspects of Mexican Gothic
If you haven't read the hacienda I highly recommend! One of my favorite haunted house books. Can't remember if there's creepy dreams in that one though...
Put „In the Company of Witches“ on my TBR immediately 😊 as for my reading month: lots of 3 star reads. I think the only book I really enjoyed and rated higher was „Call me by your Name“ by Andrè Aciman 😊
I just finished reading Snapdragon and I thought it was so wonderful! I've had a bit of a hard time connecting with graphic novels, but that was one I wasn't disappointed in!
The Girl Who Kept the Castle sounds amazing! I've gotten into graphic novels this year for the first time, I also read and loved the Lightfall series and Snapdragon. Another one I absolutely adored recently was Seance Tea Party. I thought it was going to be a cute story about a witchy girl and her ghost friend and while it was that, it also had emotional moments and a great message about growing up.
I read and loved Snapdragon a few years ago. Glad you also liked it! My favorite recent read has to be Death in the Spires by KJ Charles, a historical murder mystery with a sprinkle of found family and queer romance.
I also loved In the Company of Witches as well as Tim Probert's graphic novels. I was particularly impressed by the exploration of grief in In the Company of Witches. I look forward to reading the sequel.
Oh wow! Such a kind shoutout. And we really are just out here goofin and having a good time. 😅 Thanks for sending some love and sharing our channel!! You are also so delightful!! -Sierra
In another video you mentioned this video and said it didn't perform well so i decided to watch it. Such a clever idea. I had never heard of The Novel Cure but now I want to check it out. I didnt watch this video sooner because I thought it was going to be about a non fiction, self-help, book called The Cure For Failure or something like that. Glad I finally watched it 😊
Your reading speed is always so impressive! I really want to read The Honey Witch soon, it sounds so lovely! I’m sorry you had a rough day 😢 but glad Dan brought you some lovely things and you’re feeling better OMG THE SPRITE SLUSHIE AT AMC IS SO BAD, IT TASTED LIKE OLD POOL WATER WITH SYRUP. They just brought the coke slushie back for Minions, thank goodness the sprite was limited edition because no one in their right mind would choose that over a coke slushie 😩
Cant wait for Summerween, thinking of going with "We have always lived in the castle", a graphic novel called "Seance tea party", and possibly "A dowry of blood" 🎃
awww omg katie what the freaking heck!! thank you so much for the shout out ❤️ so so so happy ally shouted you out previously so i could come across your channel. so sweet hearing all the joyous things that happened for you this time last year & hope the same happens for you this year!! ❤️
I am hoping to get to Mexican Gothic in September or October. It will be my first by the author, but there are several I am interested in, so I am hoping I love it. I hope your reads go well. Have a great month.
OMG! I just finished Space Opera and I loved it! It is my first Cat Valente (I don't know much how she usually writes) but her writing was long-winding, strange, thought-provoking, funny, confusing, calling out humanity, and imaginative.
