Did you hook up to the water heater hot line?

My Aprilaire 600 doesn’t have that little digital control knob… should it? Or is that controlled by my smart thermostat?

I'm planning to add an Aprilaire 700, since here is Colorado, the winter are brutally dry. I can only install one of these humidifiers on the return before the air filter. The question is should I install it before or after the air filter? and what happens to the air filter with all the moisture going thru it? or does it matter? cheers
