reminder for anyone that the 170 price tag is the starter: you have to buy batteries if you want handheld, plus you have to buy a dtap cord, plus the handle... plus buying a lightbox. etc. i ended up spending about 300 for my 60x, plus batteries and 45x45. havent bought the handle yet cuz it's a month behind ;( still a great price for what you get of course, but be aware
Wow its so impressive how fast the gear improves. Now the Godox Sl60w i bought a year ago seems to be a bad deal. But thats also a reminder to myself i dont have to buy it right away. There is always better stuff coming out in the future
Haha so true. Also it doesn’t make your SL60W any worse. It would just maybe not be the purchase to make for someone buying fresh today. I wouldn’t feel upset about your previous purchase. You’ve got a great option!
Well the build quality is nicer on the godox and it comes with a better case and a few quality of life improvements in terms of portability than the amaran by aputure.
@@kylemeshna I was really interested in these at first, but I'm worried they're not bright enough. Would these be good enough for indoors with a lightbox? Or should I just go with the 100?
@@conservovirtus5796 It's a bit dependent on what you need it for? Are you just lighting a RU-vid video in a smaller space? If so, then you'll be totally fine. but if you needed something for a bigger production or want something to blast through a window to simulate sunlight, then you'll want more power.
I bought the new small rig 220B (which does run on batteries) but really wanted the light to be on the go so thinking of swapping to this one! Really great video.
Thx. Helpful review of a nifty little light that will compliment my Amaran 200X rather well. I was unsure about which version to buy but as I will only be using it for a bit of fill or as a back / hair light I will get the slightly higher output daylight version and gel it if necessary. Only problem is, reputable UK dealers wont be stocking them before late January or even later, so Santa wont be putting one under my tree this year.
Awesome review, preordered via the link. Was waiting for something that was affordable + supported batteries + bowens mount. Which softbox did you use on this? Light Dome II?
Right now I’m using the Phottix Raja 105 for my main key light, but only because it was slightly cheaper and available at my local camera shop. I also use the Aputure Light Dome Mini, which is great for portability, good if you don’t have a lot of space and easy to set up, it just isn’t as diffused.
Nice, objective review, fantastic editing! I'm having to pick a light to replace a panel as my key light. Would you recommend the 60X over the 100X or the ML60bi for use in a study nook? Although I don't mind extra bucks, they all cost the same here. The form factor of the smaller lights is delightful, but I also want to vary of the light output.
Appreciate the kind words. Do you have any need for the portability? If not, the 100x will give more brightness. And either way if you just pair with a nice modifier you’ll be good either way!
@@kylemeshna Thanks for your response. I really don't have much need for portability and usually, only shoot indoors. I'll probably go with the 100X to start with just keeping the extra brightness in mind.
Just to let you know, I finally went with the 100X and have been using it for a couple of months now. Very happy with the outcome. Have managed to put together a short review as well.
Great review. I do hate the hot spot thought. Where can you get a 120D reflector replacement? I don't see it on Aputure. There must be something similar out there from Godox. You seemed to get an even light with another reflector. I would too.
Hey looking for a 60watt light I am not a fan of the new filter that comes with it as it has a such bright spot, that is a big downside for me and the older filter is hard to fine . I am also looking at the Apature LS60d, I know it's 150 more yet was thinking I could grow into it. I am also going to need bowens mount for greater soft box needs. This will be for studio work, on the go documentaries , and product shots. Any thoughts here would be great. Thank You !
Could you tell me if this light will turn on, when it is provided with power? I would like to switch it in a smart home setting. And if this works, will it turn on with the same intensity when it was last turned off. Thanks for your feedback in advance!
I believe you would need to hook it up to a smart plug to do this. Or you could probably set up an IFTT through the Sidus Link app for your smart home.
Amazing video. Thank you for the breakdown and how you delivered this info. Do you think the 60D can handle the Aputure 6090 softbox? I'm thinking of a combo like that.
@@kylemeshna I really am enjoying your videos. I’m looking to shoot interviews with doctors in a hospital. I wouldn’t be in a completely dark room, would this light be acceptable if it was using a soft box or way too dim. I was also considering the P60C or P60x. Curious what you think. Thanks Mitch
@@mitchellglick8737 It depends on how big the room is and if you're going to be interviewing just one doctor at a time? I'd probably recommend something in the 100-200W range. The Amaran 100 or 200 are both good options -- as is the Nanlite FS-200.
@@kylemeshna dope!! This is also why I love the Aputure ecosystem along with the Sidus app. I own the 120d, 300d, handful of mcs, b7cs, so these will be a lovely addition too. Also eyeing the amaran p60c's atm too Would be so cool if they made tube lights at some point, but own quasars and nanlites so im good lol
Yes definitely. That’ll get you about 80% of the light from a 120d, which I have used in soooo many situations over the years. Only time I have needed more power is when setting up a 10x10ft rig to simulate a window
@@kylemeshna Thanks! I have been using the 300d for a few run and gun situations but man would prefer a smaller and faster setup. Thanks a lot for the answer.
heck jeah, brake one buy new one and brake another and breake one and BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY new new new one ... thats awesome idea for making electric trash and destroy this stupid planet for good
