UPDATE: Battery life and other issues with this lock make it almost impossible for it to stay integrated into my smart home. I haven't loved it since the beginning, and it's not something I can recommend. Be warned! SECOND UPDATE: Not only am I having battery life issues, but the keypad/fingerprint reader doesn't respond a lot of times. The lock is not exposed to direct sun or rain (it's under a deck with a water system). This lock keeps getting worse.
LOL! I bought this lock because it has a simple modern style to it. I love this lock because it is free of of all buggy crap the more expensive smart locks were grinding me down with. Everything works as expected. No lagging. No errors. Fastest response of any smart lock I've owned. Works with cheap as dirt MIFARE Classic 1k NFC cards or fobs. Ridiculously long battery life. And easily keyed to my Schlage key.

Aside from the lack of Thread, the hardware seems to be pretty solid. I like that it has a fingerprint reader and you can use NFC cards with it, though I don't think I would. I'm all about that HomeKey. I'm interested to test out unlocking this lock via facial recognition with the G4 doorell.
Hey Dustin. Hopefully, it'll be one of those products with Thread all along. It is nice that there are so many options to unlock it but the cheaper HomeKey is the Home Run here.

Great review im looking to replace my first gen august lock, i glt a reolink poe doorbell to install and was looking to pair it with a nice responsibe smart lock that can use zigbee. Ill be using it with home assistant.
I have been waiting for a fingerprint one for ages, that is also Homekit. I think the issues you had are particular to you. Mine is absolutely fast and stable once I enabled Matter. I would only ding Aqara for swinging tolerance. If the indoor and outdoor are off, the closing motor will retry to close constantly.
Thanks for watching. It is still on my basement door, but only because I already gave away my other HomeKit lock that I had previously. Once a new HomeKit lock comes onto the market, this will be the first one to go, even though it's the newest. The battery life is terrible, and I hate not having the same key (even though I never use keys) lol. It's more about the principle that I can't rekey it, but mostly because I'm tired of changing the batteries
I hadn’t had the issues you had with installation or the app. However I cannot figure out how to add give another user the ability to use home key. It seems it caps at one which was assigned to admin.

Nice review. Did yours come with the 2 NFC keys mentioned on the website as being included? I received mine from Amazon without them and they are not shown in the list of parts in the manual in the box. There are also no Aqara links to purchase, only AliExpress options.
No. The version they sell on Amazon currenly does not come with the NFC fobs. I've been told they will be selling a "Kit" version that will include 2 fobs and hub but they didn't have a date for me.
Regarding the length of Aqara's deadbolt. Like many locks, Aqara's deadbolt can be set to extend different distances. This allows the lock to be compatible with a lock hole that's either centered 60mm or 70mm from the edge of the door. Is it possible that our host had the lock set up for a 70mm distance when it should have been at the 60mm setting?
Hi, your're talking about the "backset". I have 2 3/8" (60mm) backset and adjusting the backset does not adjust the legnth of the deadbolt. It adjust for the center of hardware hole to the edge of the door. Two different things. If I used the 2 3/4" (70mm) backset, the deadbolt face (plate) would not have been flush and/or the center would have been way off and the lock would not be functional.
It’s interesting the different takes I have seen today from different RU-vidrs. Others haven’t had issues with install and they really liked the way it looks. I’m glad there are more locks in the market with homekeys. Thanks for posting your review, I greatly appreciate it!
Thanks for watching. Yeah the install and looks are going to vary quite a bit. (People do buy the nissan cube, lol) Its pretty much a standard install but because they changed a few so called "standard" things people "might" have issues to deal with, but not hard to make adjustments for. We'll see if anyone comes up with a solution for the rekeying as they changed those "standard" things too.
Worth noting that the Aqara A100 is also an Apple HomeKey device with Zigbee, BT5.0, NFC, fingerprint, passcode, bla bla and it’s a multipoint latch for those of us that don’t want just a single point lock
Thanks for watching and commenting. Be careful not to mix up Apple Home (HomeKit) with Apple Home Key. TWO VERY DIFFERENT THINGS! Home Key has nothing to do with ZigBee. But if you're talking about Apple Home (HomeKit) it does NOT work over ZigBee! It works over Bluetooth or Thread via your Apple Home Hubs (HP, HPM or ATVs) as your Apple Home hubs don't have ZigBee. If you use the Aqara Matter Beta, that will be ZigBee through the Aqara hub into Apple Home. You're also mixing up multipoint latch and single point lock. This is deadbolt (single point), but most NA locks have an additional lock like a lever or knob which could be considered multipoint, but that's not included in the purchase of this lock.
You weren’t wrong when you said it isn’t the prettiest lock. It definitely is ugly imo..I would take a pretty lock without home key over an ugly lock with home key.
It depends on what's important to you? I'm not saying it's a bad lock, but they made some mistakes that's a deal killer for me. It still has a place on my house (not a very active door) but it's the first one to go once a new lock comes out. For most people, who don't know better, this lock will be good for them.
I don’t use it anymore but I still have it. I used for a long time. Having HomeKit and homekeys is more important to me than build quality. I also have one of eufy’s newest locks that is camera, doorbell and lock all in one and I still prefer HomeKit and homekey features. But let me know what specific question you have and I’ll try to answer when I get a chance.

I don’t know whether to sell it and buy another lock if this isn’t good I don’t mind about if there is no HomeKit support because I don’t think I would use it, I will just use the lock feature the keypad and the fingerprint

@@PP-js1qx The Aqara lock has its own position sensor which allows it to know whether the door is shut or not. Using this feature, the lock can be set to automatically lock after the door has been shut. You set set how much time elapses between the shutting of the door and the locking of the lock. Also, you can check to see if the door has been locked while your are away. If its not locked, you can lock it remotely. HTH
