Whilst nowhere near as robust as your balsa elevons, I cut off my elevons and made them stiffer by reinforcing them with carbon strips. One about 10mm from the "leading edge" of the elevon and one at the rear, so I have 2x carbon strips running almost the entire length of each elevon. I didn't laminate them, but I did cover them with packing tape and they were extremely stiff. My hinge method was simply tape running the length of the seam, top and bottom, but pushed into the V gap with an ice lolly stick. Yep, it's kinda ghetto lol, but worked great. Shame that wing doesn't exist anymore (it was a black original AR600) after a very serious impact with a cliff wall (at about 90mph lol) I now have a new white AR Pro which is bone stock, with regards to foam elevons and hinge, but it's not built for speed so I'm happy with the regular elevons for now. Nice work bud.
After test flying I did notice a big difference in handling so balsa is the way to go for me in future. If you are just cruising around they are not necessary. Those cliffs are in the most inconvenient places arn't they :-)
I see you are running the Crossfire antenna on your wing so i assume the receiver is also set into the wing pocket. Are you running a common earth with the servo and receiver and if you are/have is it problem free? Great videos by the way.
Rock solid, so much so I damage an elevon in a crash and could not pull them out, had to cut the hinges and fit 3 more in slightly different positions 😀
@@gregorydobson4307 Its Flourescent Blue Greg. Yes I got the decals cut at a local sign company. I can upload the files and send you a link if you want to get some done.

Hi Greg part 4 shows me cutting the balsa elevons, part 5 shows them after they have been primed and painted. The next stage will be the carbon hydro dipping, lacquering and fitting to the wing with CA hinges. Hoping to get that video shot over next couple of weeks.
@@bluefish3607 I squeezed in a couple of quad and a couple of plane flights just after dawn this morning - weather now closed in for the rest of the week. Onto building, that's what bad weather is for ;)
@@Caroline_Tyler I just got back from the field for the final flight test and the weather is closing in and the wind starting to pick up, so some time in the workshop building sounds like a good idea.
