All Arachne dialogue from Hades 2 Early Access (as of May 2024). She really doesn't like the gods and is afraid of Frinos #hadesii #hades2 #supergiantgames
Arachne and Dusa would probably be very good friends. I love how this incarnation is just a spider, yet they made her as cute as a button, trauma not withstanding.
true and idk but i just luv that through her interactions you realise that she just seems so emotionally wise nut it does annoy me how naive melinoe acts towards arachne's fear and hatred of the rest of her kin especially when she's aware of her story but I will also say I luv how clear arachnes boundaries r when it comes to the olympians and that she knows melinoe respects that enough for her to be able to not sugarcoat her feelings on the gods when they're brought up
@@maestroleonard I think that supergiant used the version where the Gorgon sisters were born monsters instead of Ovid's version; technically still a victim since Athena helped Perseus to slay Medusa because a king wanted to fuck Perseus' mother and he tasked Perseus with slaying Medusa so Perseus would die and he could have his mother (it didn't work)
@@maestroleonardOne was redone in time in a way she is no longer a villian in a mortal's eye, as her slain blood creating Pegsus couldn't make her as bad her killer (not Athena) implied by slaying her....then there is Arachne. No retelling of myths can save Athena from that eff up.
@@falconeshield honestly i have more pity for dusa. She was used as a scapegoat by Poseidon, just to insult Athena. Ariadne however challenged Athena directly
She wasn’t really a victim tbh. There were many victims of the gods in mythology, but this one in particular doubled down on her pride so hard, that when she challenged Athena to a weaving contest, her submission was a tapestry depicting a mockery of the gods. Athena almost conceded too before she saw what Arachne made. Arachne had it coming for a long while.
@ThisIsntARU-vidr Her biggest crime was having too much of an ego yes but ultimately won the competition fairly based on skills and even just mocked the gods by showing legitimate stuff they did (as apparently she depicted Zeus doing his regular stuff and such) so like she is right to think the gods are in fact quite callous and vindictive such as humans (bc they represent human nature at worst and best) ultimately yes Athena was out of place bc she was just offended and wanted to feel satisfied despite everything plus couldn't handle the embarrassment, it defeats the whole image she is supposed to represent and that's why eventually she turned her into a spider post death bc she must have thought "damn I kinda did mess up ooops, well skedaddle skidoodle spider"
@@singracia1 I believe Athena turned Arachne straight into a spider, no killing involved, but there are so many versions of the myth that what Athena exactly did to her is still not confirmed to this day. Also, I’m pretty sure any contest entry - regardless of contest or participants - would be disqualified if it was submitted clearly and specifically to slander an opponent.
@ThisIsntARU-vidr according to the variations available in some she wasn't killed directly no just beaten by Athena and then she kills herself due to shame and getting ganged up by a goddess lol, again if you wanna justify a literal god by going ape shit on a random annoying girl that's fair but ultimately seems still quite a not "Athena is so wise" thing
i do kinda wish we got to see a bit more of arachne's hatred for the gods overall, it's nice to see some difference of opinion from mortals specifically, since most in the first game were very pro-god that's something i like about this interpretation of heracles, he seems jaded about his continuous labour for the gods, and the same goes for arachne with her having been converted to a spider by athena and it having spiralled into her ending up as a spider... though it is usually an arachne (basically just a woman with a spider body) and it makes plenty of sense imo, its nice to see both arachne and heracles hold this very anti-god stance
Honestly, if Heracles' story is the same as it was, he's going to be jaded for more than just the labours. He seems suspicious of witches, though perhaps his suspicion is more about magic in general given what happened to him to start the labours to begin with. But yes, he has every reason to despise the gods as well. From the way Hades speaks of him in the first game, it seems that they're also on less friendly terms than the original canon. Definitely would like to see more of his story as the game develops.
Gotta love how such "gods" often had their head up their arse so much, that they didn't even consider the chance less privilaged people would feel their punishment, then go "Hm! Maybe there's benefits to this!". The main thing that actually hurt Arachne was the petty betrayal of trust and the fact the gods can punish and go unpunished.
In every other story Athena's so cool but the way she ruined Dusa and Arachne's lives was so unbelievably evil, literally victim blaming and being mad about losing a sewing contest
Dusa seems pretty happy here. She's probably the gorgon version that was turned into one to protect her from grape coming from invaders whom destroyed a temple of Athena long ago. After Perseus killed Medusa, Pegsus was born from her blood, which had to be pure for an alicorn that powerful to rise from. It's safe to say Dusa probably holds no grudge against Athena compared to Arachne, whom didn't get as generous as a rewrite in the passage of time.
Arachne sells Melinoe magical silk dresses that change her appearance, but those dresses get undone and Melinoe is back to her default appearance if she takes a few hits each dress comes with a different buff
May I just say that the stories supergiant games used were not as far back as the story’s go and were made by a guy who didn’t like women or authorities the original story of Medusa she was always a monster. Only the stone thing was placed on her and she willingly slept with Poseidon in Athena’s temple and I’m not sure if the story of aracnie has an older version but Athena‘s characterisation is a lot different and that’s because of the writer.
