Comparing my Arai Rapide Neo (Concept-X) and Shoei RF1400 (NXR2 / Z8) I compared both in terms of: Built quality Noise level / Quitness Shield quality and function Comfort and fit Safety Overall value #araivsshoei #arai #shoei
as good as arai are with there impeccable safety, for me Shoei's fit has always been better, and lasted longer, with all year round riding, further more, i walked away from a crash that i shouldn't have survived from with a shoei. to me that is the reason i will always choice them thank you Shoei for saving my life,
Great review. I preferred Shoei for a long time, and owned a few X-11s and RF-1000s (2006-2008 timeframe). I purchased my first Arai in 2019 (Corsair X) and now own 3 of them. I just recently purchased a closeout X-14. My comparison will be the Corsair X vs X-14. Both are premium, top of the line helmets. For graphics, Arai always seems to have the better graphics, especially the Japanese or Oriental themes. For overall aesthetics, the Shoei looks better because it's longer and has the rear spoiler already attached. However, Arai makes a spoiler for the Corsair X that looks really good when you attach it. Shoei still looks better overall because it's a longer helmet from front to back. Noise: both very noisy, regardless of all the technology. Price: similar. Protection: unsure because I've never crashed. Comfort: Shoei is easier to put on and isn't as snug as Arai. Visor: Corsair X is tricky and takes time to get used to. Shoei has the easiest visor replacement system in the world. Durability: both seem to last a long time. I still wear an old Shoei RF-1000 sometimes. At the end of the day, pick the one with the graphics you prefer because they're going to do the same exact thing-protect you from a crash. Or just do like I did....own at least one of each.
That is excellent and very useful comparison. You brought up some points that I noticed on my helmets but, I really wasn't taking in consideration. You are right though, like which hand opens visor makes a big difference. In Texas, I pretty much do it every time I stop.
Good comparison. I Already own the shoei NXR2. Wonderful helmet. Although the only time I hear a whistling sound is when i'm moving the with visor slightly open. With visor closed, and all vents open (I am in Malaysia. I will NEVER close them), I only hear wind noise. I can hear my cardo with no issues. On the highway the other cars sound louder than the wind. I would love to get the Concept-X too, but the NXR2 was already expensive. So I may go a more budget friendly route and pick up a HJC V10. Similar styling to the Concept-x.
Hello. I have a Shoei NXR2 and is very good for me also for travel, the aerodynamic and the fit. I don't have an Arai but i would like to use one of it, especially for long travels.
I have Arai concept xe and really love it. Anyway I would to try Shoei as well. I am waiting for Shoei GT air3 which is currently not available in Thailand yet.
I am surprise that one of youtube channel from EU tested and rated the concept x as the worst ventilation. Inside is 7 degree hotter than outside. What do you think?
14:20 DOT covers just the basics in terms of safety while ECE 22.05/06 is a proper safety homologation, which should be, in my opinion, the minimum required internationally. Arai even considers ECE 22.06 as a weak homologation so I would give the safety point to Arai to be honest.
06:32 every helmet is purpose built. You're comparing a track helmet built for supersport (Shoei) to a road helmet Arai. For better comparison choose similar purpose built helmets.
Because some people do a lot of highway riding. The wind noise inside of a helmet is EXTREMELY damaging to your hearing if sustained for a long period of time.
Well, I am going to be controversial. If neither brand makes a helmet in the shape and size to fit my noggin, I am going to say neither is 'best'. And they don't. Not for me, and that is the point. If a helmet does not fit, no brand name or advertising/promotion is going to fix that. I can't even get their largest sized helmets on my head, let along see if they are comfortable. They can have all the design features, safety features, quality of construction that they want. If they don't fit, they are no good.
Shoei helmet saves Marc Marquez head from many crashes both hard and soft crashes. Shoei is already tested and many motorcycle racing like MotoGP, SBK and others are using Shoei.
