Hey guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at I'mma show you how to install the ARC LED headlights on our 2018 Hyundai Elantra. So here you can see a clear side by side comparison between our old halogen lights and our new LEDs. Now I have these in my personal vehicle and these lights when I ride in other vehicles that have halogen lights they are so much weaker and the distance that they throw out is so much shorter and you can clearly see a side by side comparison. I think that the ARC headlights are gonna look a lot better on in front of your car rather than these old dull halogens. These ARC headlights are going to be three times brighter than your typical halogen bulbs and that's gonna make a huge difference when you're out on the road, especially driving at night.
What I've discovered I've got these lights in my personal truck. What I've found is that there's a an odd time between the sun going down where your headlights aren't very helpful, and then the sun being down. So these lights will actually help you when the sun starts going down. You'll be able to see a lot better at more times of the day especially at night when it's dark out. I live out in the country so there's no street lights.
So my headlights are the only lights that are allowing me to see anything, and they are more than powerful enough for me to see everything that I need. The other thing that's really nice about 'em is they're going to be a 6,000 Kelvin which is the temperature of them that is just gonna be a pure white, there's no blue or purple tint to 'em. There's definitely not a yellow tint to them anymore. Your halogen lights are gonna be typically between 3,500 and 4,000 Kelvin. So that gives you a little bit of a range.
They're a lot brighter, so you can see a lot better. Now, the one thing I have learned by driving around with these headlights my truck does sit up a little bit higher. I do have a leveling kit on the front but if you have issues with people blinding you on the road because your lights are significantly brighter than your factory lights, maybe just aim 'em at your garage door and lower the aim of your headlights down a little bit and then it's not gonna be so bright for others on the road. If you have projector bulbs or lenses like we have here those are supposed to help with that. They're designed to go further but they aim down automatically.
So just keep an eye out. Definitely be mindful for others on the road so you're protecting their eyes so that they can see when they drive at night. With that being said, the install's gonna be extremely easy. Let's go ahead and jump into that. To get your new headlight in place we need to start by locating the low beams. Our low beams are gonna be here and then the ones next to it are gonna be the high beams. We're just replacing the low beams today. And then on the back side the Elantra is actually pretty easy to replace 'cause it's you can access both of the plugs. But we need to unscrew this cap. Just need to turn this cap counterclockwise to loosen it. And it's not gonna turn very fast 'cause the seal is really tight on it. And then we'll just need to pop it out from the bottom which I just did by prying back on it. You can get your fingers underneath these tabs and pry this way and then we'll reach back in the back of the light. Sorry, this is gonna be hard to see much of this but you'll twist that counterclockwise like a quarter turn and the headlight will pop right out. Now the next step in our process this might differ depending on the submodel that you have. The Elantra that we have today we're not gonna have to use the anti flicker module. I have these in my truck and they say that you need to use the anti flicker module. And the the reason why it's good to know whether or not you have to is because in order to install this anti flicker you'll have to mount this box outside somewhere here. And essentially what it is, is it's a module that's designed to help the electricity that's going to your headlights originally for your halogen bulbs. Well, LED bulbs are gonna take a different type of power. I went ahead and installed these when I installed 'em on my truck. And what you have to do is you have to drill a big hole in your dust cap here. Well, what that's gonna do is you'll have to put this plug in the dust cap. And what I had problems with is I had water getting into the headlight and now I've got water sitting in condensation sitting in my headlights. We already tested this out on the driver's side and we do not need the anti flicker module. So what
