Arc the Lad 「アークザラッド」is a tactical role-playing game developed by G-Craft and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Originally released only in Japan in 1995, it later saw a western release in some western territories within the Arc the Lad Collection. This game is the first in a trilogy, and sets the stage for a huge mystery that threatens to envelop the entire world.
Arc is an unassuming hero who only wants to find his father. Setting out on a rainy night, he is struck down by a demon, only to be revived by the Guardian Spirits, and tasked with restoring balance to the world.
The game is only short at around 10 hours, but is it worth the investment? Watch the review and find out!

I thought you'd left this channel for good (RIP the letsplays), nice to see another PS1 RPG fan making content again. I knew so little about it that i didn't know it was a tactical RPG but i bought it anyway years ago just to collect it. Have not played it because i didn't think I had time for another big RPG - you saying that it's only 10 hours long is making it much more appealing!

Worthless Winner Yeah, I did leave for a bit because I wanted to focus on living in Japan. But after a few months I decided to start making new content (albeit it was on a different channel). But I’ve come back now. Sorry about the no more Let’s Plays. I feel like creatively, reviews are a better outlet for me. This game is short, it’s true, and it can be played on it’s own, but it does serve as a kind of prologue to Arc the Lad 2, which is a much longer, and much better game overall.

Glad you're back! Just a little constructive criticism; the volume of the audio at about 9:03 was a bit too high. Scared the crap out of me, and kind of hurt my ears, as I was listening to it in the background. But other than that, I liked it. Hope to see more from you.

Thanks! The videos that I'll be posting for the next few months will be migrated from my other channel that I lost. This was the first review video I made about a year ago, so the rawness of being fresh to this type of video definitely shows, haha. Thanks for your feedback. The quality definitely picked up as time went on, so I look forward to seeing what you think of the later videos. :)

Stranger Happened Yes, I have watched most of the anime. It deviates a bit from the game. The anime is mostly based on the second game.

You should have used Poco more, he becomes a beast with his Lion Drum ability, its area of effect is like 5 squares in the 4 cardinal directions. So he can hit up to 5 enemies at once for big damage each. Plus his Speed Ocarina to speed up chars is very useful. Arc, Tosh, and Poco are my 3 favorite damage dealers. Great review!

I didn't use Poco much in this game, but don't worry - he became one of my mainstays in the sequel. ;)

yea, Poco wasnt bad, you just need to gear him up with +mag accessories and he's fine. He falls into the " Jack of All Trade but master of none" category

This is a fantastic game for someone looking for a quick playthrough. Poco is actually a pretty sweet character if you can make use of his buffing and special attacks

Poco was my highest level character cause his buffs level him up. Just spam buffs.

I recently got into rpgs because when I was a young kiddo I never even tried the genre bc I was always afraid of buying one bc back in the 90's buying a game was a huge gamble sometimes. Mainly bc I was in my early teens and saving up money to buy a new snes or genesis game was a crap load of lawns to mow and a hell of a long time until I have enough again to buy another one. I was always nervous that I would buy a game like chrono trigger, go to play it and be too stupid and impatient to even play the game. Then I would be stuck with a game I didn't like and realize it could be months or even till my birthday or Christmas. It's funny bc everytime I would go to my local video store to rent a game for the weekend, they never had any rpgs. Then I could a rented one just too try it. Damn I'm typing out a story. Chapter 2, the recent rpg transition. Finally after alllllll these years I gave it a go and bought chrono trigger from the PlayStation Network (I know, load times are horrendous for the port) and fell in love with the story and combat. Ever since I have been rpg crazy, buying all the older ones I missed out on as a kid. Oh yeah I came in the comment section to ask about a recommendation for a tactical rpg that would be a good one to start out on and learn. Sorry bout the book series I just wrote, but I'm so pumped up about my new found love of rpgs and love talking about them. So yea what is a good tactical rpg for a beginner like me?

No problem, man. Glad to hear that you've fallen in love with RPGs. If you want an easy tactical RPG to start with, then this one (Arc the Lad) isn't that difficult. I also reviewed Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure, which has tactical combat, but is pretty easy. Don't let the cutesy look fool you, as the game is full of a lot of toilet humor. If you're looking for something grittier, one of my first tactical RPGs was Vandal Hearts. It has a great political narrative, and I think the challenge is just right. I'd stay away from the Fire Emblem series, especially the earlier entries, however the later ones are more accessible. I reviewed Fire Emblem: Three Houses on this channel, and in that game you can set the difficulty and can turn off permadeath. There's a ton of great tactical RPGs out there. I hope you can find one that resonates with your interests.

Stranger Happened It’s not really an issue of coming up with commentary. It’s more that I want to focus on creative endeavours, and making reviews allows me this outlet. :)
