My mom use to let me miss school sometimes and take me to the mall. I would play arcades and she would buy me Ninja Turtles action figures. RIP mom, thank you. Awesome times, back then.
sorry for your loss, your mom was a great person. I remember sometimes my mom would also pick me up from school halfway through the day to take me to chick fil a then leave me with a $10 at the arcade while she went shopping. good times indeed.
I’m sorry for your loss. Sounds like your mom understood that spending time with your child is more important than following the herd and letting other people teach your kid everyday. 👍🏻
that was my biggest concern. i cant imagine the thing standing up to many hardcore sessions. mind u its too small to actually fight anyone on it(which is the whole point). also bugs me to see they have a ball top stick instead of a bat top(japanese cabs use ball tops). i would imagine it was a circle gate tho.
Yeah, no doubt. Can’t imagine going head to head with someone as small as the machine was. I would have ruined the joystick quicker if I had went up against someone though.
I think one like that MIGHT be coming soon, which will have X-Men (and who knows what else) in it. That along with the original T.M.N.T. game, with Turtles In Time as well.
That was the ultimate fighting arena. Still pissed about that guy that whipped me using spider man. 15 years ago. I was on a 8 win streak and in front my girlfriend. Fucker lol..
That one would be hard, given the rights required for those games. I mean remember how many times the MvC games have been put up and than delisted from online stores like the PSN and XBLA. Hell MvC 3 and UMvC3 have been taken out of print due to rights issues. If they did do an MvC machine then it would have to be a super limited run of under like 500 machines.
Hi, I’m 59 and these games came out when I was in high school. I bought the asteroids game which was my favorite but mine came broken, the only game that worked was asteroids, so Iended up buying another control board and the spinner worked on all the games. I still waiting to hear about a replacement spinner which they were suppose to make an update spinner but still can’t get one. I love the art on the pac man game.
I live in a small mountain village in Tasmania, with a population of around 100 people (half of them are under 18). Over here they only brought out the Gauntlet and Street Fighter cabinets (the SF one is a dream come true for me) but they're $699 AUD (roughly $498 USD). I bought one of each to set up at our local milk bar so the kids here could experience some of the awesomeness of the 80s and 90s.
for a second there i thought james was going to finally talk about those mini hand-held arcade games on the shelf behind him in all of his videos, given how it showed him playing those in the intros of the x-men and magnavox odyssey reviews
@@shadowfrost44 no i really cant, i just rely in my information i see on a video and dont really process it, so you cant convince me otherwise /sarcasm
Agreed. Since I was a kid I wanted to buy my dad a Galaga cabinet. Now that older cabinets are just going to get harder to maintain with age, this Arcade1UP is a great compromise.
I messed around with the Street Fighter 2 one in my local Walmart before I started working there and I think its definitely very nostalgic. Being born in 1980, I remember very fondly being able to go and spend my allowance at the local arcade or at the arcade in the movie theater before and after watching a movie.
we actually have 2 demo units at the Walmart i work at, and the graphics around the controls have completely worn off after about a month of constant use.
I frequent a local Wal-Mart around my town and they have the Street Fighter 2 one assembled for playing. I'm able to pull off the special moves every time. I play with Ryu too and can hit all the hadokens without missing the control combos.
Depends on which version of the sticks you get. There are really bad ones, and some slightly better ones. Can't tell from outside of box which one it has.
A note on the decal quality: I work at a Walmart where we've set up one of the Street Fighter machines from stock (as our demo unit didn't come in), and within three days most of the control panel overlay had been rubbed white. Granted, it was placed in electronics facing the main path to toys during the holiday season, so it did see a particularly high amount of traffic.
From what I've seen, even the hardcore collectors love arcade1up. It's accessible and original Edit:original machines also take hundreds of dollars to upkeep. Also most new arcade machines include too many games which takes away from the appeal
I think kids would rather get a Modern Console, and a Retro Game collection on that console, and seeing how cheaply there made, and how much there sold for. Like the old saying "You can't go home again".
I have two of these in my room, street fighter and galaga, and i like them alot. When you said that they are made for dads showing their kids i was like, "What? Im 13 and i wanted these." But thats maybe cus i love 80s and 90s stuff idk. I get that they arent for the hardcore arcade machine people, but this is ideal for the average arcade machine person. Whats nice about them is that they actually used the arcade versions. When i got galaga i was wondering if they would use the nes or arcade version and they did!
I'm still waiting for arcade 1up to do a WWF wrestling arcade machine with these games: WWF superstars WWF Wrestlefest WWF wrestlemania the arcade game WWF Royal Rumble
Ya we need more good beatem up. Street fighter is fine but all 3 games are pretty much the same. Final fight was just released so that's cool. But TMNT, X-Men, and SIMPSONS are the only cabinets I played when I was younger. I played Final Fight on console so it's not the same to me
Thanks for sharing the details guys. I'd be most likely to get one of those 1001 games in one machine due to space and monetary limitations but thanks very much for educating us thoroughly!
Yeah Lunar Lander is GREAT! I like it better than the arcade version because I think the buttons are better than the thruster controller it originally had
A pretty informative video, I wouldn't mind seeing more talk about stuff like this. Ryan seems to know his stuff when it comes to arcade machines, it would be neat to see him talk about the process of fixing/modding these cabinets. I'd definitely get Rampage and the Capcom cabinets
I literally bought 2 of them today (Pac-man and Rampage) because they were on sale for $200 each. And my thought was that my 3 year old daughter would totally be able to play them. A great way to introduce her to some of the classics casually. Glad you guys agreed that’s what these are for. :)
@@EQOAnostalgia With all the quality controls issues these machines are having even at $99 it's a stretch. I have a feeling a lot of these are gonna flood Craigslist, LetGo, etc.. after the holidays where people get tired of them, or their spouse says it's gotta go, or else at well under $100.
Well... you all already know which one is going to be Huge. Once they secure the license with Atari and Disney. Star Wars the arcade game, return of the jedi and empire strikes back 3 in one. Thats the one that will start fights in the stores.
I wish they apposed the joystick clusters at more of a 45degree angle for 2-player games like SF2 etc. Also super light and the cabinets kind of bounce around when the play gets intense.
Actual SF2 arcade machines didn't move the buttons on an angle. They were flat and parallel, just like every other old SF or MK arcade machine was. The only multiplayer machines that used angled buttons were FOUR player.
The newer ones are drastically improved. I just got the TMNT cab and it comes with the riser included, the buttons and sticks are solid, and they upgraded to stereo speakers.
My mom's a huge fan of Centipede, so I got her that one when I saw it at Walmart. Yeah, the trackball is a bit stiff, but that didn't stop her from knocking off all the high scores in less than a week.
I'm only 18 so I've never even seen a real Gauntlet cabinet, much less played one, but I've played the hell out of it via Midway Arcade Treasures on the PSP, so naturally I was super stoked to see one of these set up for demo play at Wal-Mart. Someone had stolen the knob from the joystick, but it still looked, felt, and sounded exactly like I'd imagine the real game to look, feel, and sound like. I didn't have time to get past level 8 (even after using the warp), so I can't speak on the level 30+ glitches, but from my brief experience I'd have to say that this is a perfect way to introduce the youngins to arcade classics. Or you could just take them to an actual arcade lol
you say for fathers, but my mother is 63 and she LOVED arcade games. my dad bought her an Atari 2600 to celebrate my birth back in 82. i think she would really dig this.
I played the street fighter one at GameStop the other day. Very cheap made. The artwork on the button board was already worn off and the buttons and joysticks already felt very loose and worn out. They don’t seem to hold up well. Shame.
@@EQOAnostalgia yeah i liked how they just glossed over the cheapness factor. Thats why I say for like $100 or less these machines are worth it as a starting point to make your on project cab. Hence how the guy that owned these already modded his SF machine out. If it was so great whys he spending another $100 to mod it?
Stay away from these things until they are $100 or cheaper, this guy doesnt talk about all the issues these machines have except for the street fighter..He plays off the galaga being completely broken..OH WELL. not to mention the gameplay panel artwork on these rub off easily. I give arcade 1up some kudos for effort since they are new to the game, and the fact they fix alot of the issues and arent shady about that part.
VideoGame Polak hopefully the q and a will improve they are on sale for 199 now don’t know if it’s permanent or not . Seriously doubt they’ll dip to 100 or less unless the company goes out of business it’s hard to get a decent fight stick for less than a 100
Doctor Love check amazon it’s not an actual arcade machine that’s meant to be used like this one it’s just a plug and play Mini system that has the screen and super tiny controls
My Tesla has Asteroids, Centipede, Lunar Landing, and Space Invaders. You use the touch screen or the steering wheel. Plus you can sit and play. Oh, you can go place because it doubles as a car.
These things are pretty fun. One thing that bothers me immensly is that the paint on the cabinet is not very good. Its almost like it was printed on instead of painted on. So over time with heavy use the paint around the buttons and the sticks will become chipped and scratched
Fist thing you do when you buy one of these is to replace the Joystick and buttons with quality ones. Either Sanwa or Seimitsu or if you have a personal preference, that. The ones that come with these are incredibly flimsy, and will not hold up to repeated use/abuse. Friend of mine bought one when they came out, and the Joystick and several buttons failed after the first month. Helped him replace them with Sanwa ones, and have been good since. If you prefer standing at these, definitely buy the riser.
