Logan Wheeler one of the many things I have encounter in Hollywood , is that the latinos that have achieved fame and fortune, they forgot how hard it is to climb the ladder of success, I give god many thanks every day , I am positive,always opening doors not just for me but also the ones coming behind me. Thank you ARCADE FIRE fans for your support. Best Pablo.

My mom and dad were in the hospital together with Covid in November 2020. My dad recovered but we lost our mom. This is my first time watching this video. Makes me think of them. Yes, I feel sad for losing her but I feel even more sad for my dad. Imagine being married for 52 yrs then bam! They are both from Mexico and my dad dresses like the dad in this video. I see my family in this video. We all miss her.

I love how at 6:15 the older son dreams of being in the back seat with his mother, with no (visible) driver in the front seat. Which calls to mind "In The Backseat", a song similarly about Regine's mother: "I like the peace In the backseat I don't have to drive I don't have to speak I can watch the countryside And I can fall asleep"

Watching this video, listening to the music, for the very first time since my mother suffered her stroke and died, I was able to let myself feel the sadness of remembering her the way she was when I was a little boy. She was so incredibly beautiful and very intelligent, creative, and brave.

Main point, appreciate your loved ones when they're alive, not dead, life can always take an unexpected turn. I learned that last month, expected to see my granpa over the summer, as he lived in Mexico. He was so ecstatic, he left us last month. I could not comprehend he was gone, I was awaiting his text, how could he be? But it was his time. Don't waste time in imperfections of one another

Grief, I've learned, is really just love. It's all the love you want to give, but cannot. All that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in that hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go.” - Jamie Anderson

What a powerful piece of art - this song and the video, together. Who doesn't experience loss? Who doesn't contemplate their own mortality? Who doesn't wish that they could still hold a loved one who has died? Regrets, uncertainty, pain … we all know the emotions that this song evokes. It's utterly relatable. I love it. And I adore Arcade Fire.

The mother is gone and the father has two kids to raise and love. He sells flowers and has a tough time economicly but he tries his best for his two kids. He tries to instill religion in them both and tries to keep thr latin culture alive in his youngest son and tries to keep the oldest out of trouble, his relationship with the oldest is tough because theyre both depressed for the mothers passing. The oldest seeks parties to cope but inside he also wants to please god and is conflicted by his two desires. At the end family love brings them together and have the mother and religion to unite them. Well thats what i got from the video after seeing it one time. Aeesome song and great video.

The reason for using a Mexican family I think is that in our culture we are not just family oriented people, we are also so mother oriented, our mom is untouchable, almost like a saint, and losing the mother is losing the backbone of a family which makes this video, or at least to me as a Mexican that has been apart from my mother for a while, a more profound and painful tragedy.

Understood, but why do they have the father selling flowers in the street? Is that just what they think all Mexicans do? That's something people do when they've first come over and have no skills. This dad is in his 50s and while they don't live in a mansion, it's a decent little cottage in LA (not the best housekeeping, but that's probably bc the mom is dead). In real life he'd be a truck driver or something similar.

Afterlife, oh, my God, what an awful word After all the breath and the dirt and the fires are burnt And after all this time, and after all the ambulances go And after all the hangers-on are done hanging in the dead light Of the afterglow I've gotta know Can we work it out? We scream and shout 'till we work it out Can we just work it out? Scream and shout 'till we work it out? 'Till we work it out, 'till we work it out 'Till we work it out, 'till we work it out Afterlife, I think I saw what happens next It was just a glimpse of you, like looking through a window Or a shallow sea Could you see me? And after all this time It's like nothing else we used to know After all the hangers-on are done hanging in the dead light Of the afterglow I've gotta know Can we work it out? Let's scream and shout 'till we work it out Can we just work it out? Scream and shout 'till we work it out? But you say Oh When love is gone Where does it go? And you say Oh When love is gone Where does it go? And where do we go? Where do we go? Where do we go? Where do we go? And after this Can it last another night? After all the bad advice That had nothing at all to do with life I've gotta know Can we work it out? Scream and shout 'till we work it out? Can we just work it out? Scream and shout 'till we work it out? But you say Oh When love is gone Where does it go? And you say Oh When love is gone Where does it go? Oh When love is gone Where did it go? And where do we go? It's just an afterlife It's just an afterlife Pós-vida, oh, meu Deus, que palavra terrível Após toda respiração, e sujeira, e os fogos estarem queimados. E você diz Oh Quando o amor acaba Para onde ele vai? Oh Quando o amor acaba Para onde ele foi? E para onde nós vamos? É apenas um pós-vida É apenas um pós-vida

I have to tip my hat to this Emily Kai Bock for effectively drawing an undiluted picture of a single concept. She was so adept as to make me feel for the pure tragedy of this story- I almost felt it was beautiful tragedy, but then that would have cheapened it some I think. I almost wanted some hope to be implied at the end- but that certainly would not have been very true to life, or death. Huzzah Ms. Bock.

I read somewhere that Man probably began believing in an Afterlife as a result of dreaming. The claim is Man would lose a friend or a member of his group or tribe and later on he would have dreams with that person in them. He'd awake and be convinced that he'd just saw him/her. And so he'd believe that they are living somewhere else, an afterlife.

stashray Just from experience I would have dreams of my parent's after they died that felt so real you wake up freaking out. They feel very real. Never had dreams that intense before. It seriously feels like you are with them. Eventually those dreams go away until you have that one day you dwell on them and start looking at pictures. I can't even do video's. That shit is way to much.

Love can't be gone...is always inside you.
@tbloogz9330
@tbloogz9330 10 лет назад
sofiteeeniaa Love itself is always inside of you. But what about love for a single person? That one person. The person whose name made your heart race. The love you have for them isn't inside of you to begin with. They build their love inside of you; A slow building process where they use the trust you've given them to break away the walls that shield the world from the real you. Piece by piece Memory by memory They chisel their way past your walls and plant themselves firmly at the center of your person. That love wasn't always inside. And there's no guarantee that it'll stay there. Sometimes love sticks around forever, But love often finds some way of disappearing. Sometimes love fades. Sometimes it explodes out of existence. Sometimes it seems to disappear overnight. Sometimes it stops being romantic love. Sometimes you find that the one you love doesn't light up when they see you anymore. Sometimes the eyes that you fell in love with shoot you a look that dismantles you from the inside out. Sometimes it's you who doesn't look at them the same anymore. Sometimes the very traits and idiosyncrasies that you fell in love with become the things you can't stand about them. Sometimes the little things that made your blood boil become the things you miss the most. Sometimes you wish they could keep you awake another night; At least then they would be there. Sometimes you spend days thinking about the things you would have said differently. Sometimes you spend years. Sometimes you have to choose: Do you remain friends and endure the pain of platonic friendship? Or do you sever ties and endure the pain of complete loss? Sometimes they choose for you. Sometimes the person you comforted through countless sleepless nights The person you held and promised to be with forever The person who loved you for who you were, not who you tried to be. The person who was there for you through everything. Through deaths Through job loss Through successes and failures Through cancer. Sometimes, someday that person might tell you that their love for you is gone. Sometimes you wake up, and at some point that day you'll finally admit to yourself that you've both been holding onto something that neither of you want anymore. Sometimes you find that your love is gone. You admit it to each other. Sometimes you admit it through talking. Sometimes you shout things at each other in the heat of the moment that you'll spend years wishing you could take back. Sometimes all of that happens. Sometimes none of it does. Sometimes that love is gone. We know it's gone But where did it go? And where do we go?

@BUrffer17
@BUrffer17 10 лет назад
I see it as a widower trying to keep his family together, through finding love (the flowers on the side of the road). He's searching for a mother figure for his sons, who are both searching for a mother figure, or simply, another loving force. They find these loving forces, in the form of the their wife/mother in their dreams when they are brought together at home: the youngest son being held by the mother when he snuggled up next to dad and fell back asleep, and the older son dreaming he was being held my the mother while his father was awake and running his hand through his son's hair. There's more to the first dreams too, but that's too much in one comment, and I would add that it seems to me a theme you could draw from this is to love while you can, but what makes this song and video such great artwork is that each, individually and together, can be interpreted multiple ways.

The mother is still with them in their dreams, where she saves them. I also love the references to Orpheus and Eurydice. Orpheus lost Eurydice and he goes into the afterlife, or Hades, and tries to bring her back. The gods allow him to do this on the condition that he doesn't look back at her as they leave the underworld. He does, of course, and she turns to a pillar of salt. That's why you can't see the mother's face clearly until the end. I don't know how you can interpret the myth, but it has something to do with not being able to bring back the past, or the dead. It's about the the way they stay with us even when they're gone but remain forever out of reach while we try not to forget their faces.

I listen to this song many times a day it's just in the background frequently, it wasn't until a few minutes ago when I was thinking about my grandmother thinking about a fish and chip shop and how I should ring her and see if she wants to hang out and get fish and chips there... My grandmother died a few years ago and for a brief moment that had slipped form my mind, the loss of it all came flooding back all the wondering and regrets and then I just wanted to listen to this song in this exact moment..so here I am, not just paying it as I normally do in the background but properly listening to it, hearing it again like the first time I heard it with this video and not just the music.

My stepdad died today. Whenever I think of death, I always come back to this song. To me, it's one of the saddest songs I've ever heard, the tune and the lyrics combined make for a very melancholy song about wondering what happens next. What happens when we die and we come the end? If you truly appreciate someone close in your life, let them know. Don't wait until the very end when it's too late. I implore you. Rest in peace now, you're tired....I'll see you on the other side soon.

The whole music video is a giant metaphor for the necessity of family and how the characters view the world without them. The young child is inside the washing machine, a fear he might have. But later we see him in the comfort of his mother. The teen is living a usual teenage life (world outside the pool. The girl that's partly nude can be in reference to his increasing sexual activity) but misses the times when we has younger (The pool/baptism. The pool is sealed off from the Teen's world because christians don't do the stuff he does. He misses this because he remembers how small his world was and how innocent it was too.) The Father travels through (his memories) and it's noticable that it's all black and white, symbolizing sadness in a way, or even depression. There's also his wife (or two?) which, even though it is still in black and white, are brighter. He misses the beach memory (why it's so bright and such) but he still enjoys time with his wife (disco ball.) It could just be me, but that's how I broke it down.
@sidraMPatty
@sidraMPatty 3 года назад
I think the mother had passed away and they each remember her in their dreams. The young boy had a bad dream but after he goes to find his father for comfort, he falls back asleep and dreams of when his mother used to hold him. The teen is a typical rebellious boy who is probably searching for a way to cope with his sadness. Towards the end when he's asleep he dreams of a time when he was asleep with his head on his mother's shoulder. The father, he has several dreams, possibly old memories, but he has flashes of a time when his wife was standing on a beautiful balcony. At the end he is dancing with her. As someone mentioned before the final dance scene has sand falling in, indicating that his memory of her may be fading like old memories do, making that scene all the more heartbreaking. So yes it is a metaphor for the necessity of family but with the added emphases of appreciating them now before its too late.
@juliusebola9389
@juliusebola9389 3 года назад
@@sidraMPatty The movie that they made this video out of is based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Orpheus is the greatest of all musicians, but his wife dies after their marriage and he goes to the underworld, meaning the afterlife, to win her back from the gods, who he charms with his music. They're so moved by it that they agree to let him take her back to the land of the living on the condition that he doesn't look back at her while he's leading her out of Hades. At the last moment, just before they exit the underworld, he looks back at her and she becomes a pillar of salt. There are any number of interpretations that are possible, especially if we stop thinking about the afterlife (and reincarnation) as literal and supernatural. The Greeks didn't think of these things that way but we do by default for some reason (as somebody else said, "a myth is that which never happened but which is always true"). At any rate, I think the bit at the end is a direct reference to the myth. He goes into the basement of the salt mine building, meaning the underworld, which turns into the dance floor of his memory. Notice how we don't see her face on the balcony and how her back is turned towards us on the dance floor. It's when he turns her to face him that we see the salt being shoveled into the windows and the darkness covering his face.
