Arcade Game: Pac-Man (1980 Namco (Midway License for US release)) 

Fun fact: All of the ghosts are programmed to act differently, the red one chases the player, the blue one tries to ambush the player, the pink one tries to position itself in a set way and the orange ghost is random.

Pac-Man is an unforgettable classic.

My late father was so addicted to this game that he ended up in the hospital... no joke. I think he had attended gaming addiction support groups.

This is the definition of a timeless video game. Simple, yet addictive.

Blinky, the red ghost represents as the leader of the ghosts and is the most aggressive ghost who always chases Pacman directly. Pinky, the pink ghost represents as the only female ghost and is the most beautiful ghost who tries to ambush Pacman in front of her. Inky, the cyan Ghost is the bashful ghost who scares easily. He sometimes chases Pacman aggressively like Blinky. Clyde, the orange ghost is the most stupid ghost who moves in any random directions. He typically retreats when he sees Pacman.

I remember when this game first came out. I was 10 and I could not wait for school to end so I could go to the local arcade and play it! There was a huge line just to play. You had to be there!

The sound of Pac-Man eating and the ghosts floating will NEVER get old :D And it still doesn’t in 2024 :)

But that wasn't all...

October 26, 1980. And Toru Iwatani create a character from a singular slice eaten pizza. Many arcade goers were getting psyched up to jettison to arcades, insert coin, and rack up an amazing high score. Plus, tackling that dangerous 9th key. A true icon I’m sure everyone remembers.

Some people have no idea how monumental this game was for the industry. This changed the landscape of video games forever, an irreversible evolution.

The power pellets give you 10 seconds in the early part of the game. This time is reduced in later levels until the power pellets are just like the rest of the pellets

When I first saw this game at the arcade when I was 14 or so, I had a much different impression of it (social impacts of others at school that I estimate knew about the game) than after I played it the first few times, and again after I read a book of patterns to master it. It looked so simple, but was so freakin hard.

Remember when people loved videogames if they were simply entertaining? Nowadays it's "Does this game have ray tracing?" "How often does the game have frame drops?" "Omg the little nipple hair on my character isn't being reflected on a puddle which noone will likely notice unless you're purposely looking for it." I never understood this mindset tbh and I am absolutely glad I don't have it, if the game is entertaining, then it's good enough for me.

Admit it, we’ve all played this game once

When I was kid, we visited NYC. My brother and I stepped into an arcade (several, actually) and virtually all of the Pac-Man and Donkey Kong games were obvious bootlegs. In fact, the DKs were called "Krazy Kong" and the colors were way off. The Pac-Man games used the bell icon from the eleventh level as the actual Pac dude. It didn't have a moving mouth or anything. If felt very NY mob knock-off at the time. Incidentally, my brother and I used to think that the seventh/"lime" level was a hand grenade.

They had a pac-man machine at Pastures Youth Centre in Leytonstone, London in the '80s. I was addicted to it.

For those of you calling him a cheater, look up world record for Pac man which is 256 levels. It starts glitching a little bit because people were expected to only survive 2-4 levels. It's not cheating because the person who got the WW got a medal PERSONALLY by the creator himself.

By far my favorite arcade game. Mario Bros. '83, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Q-bert, etc are all good, but I never get tired of Pac Man!

Well I played it so much in our local arcade in the 80s, that I clocked it and figured out a route system, I used to tease them to come gather at the big do so pac man could swallow them send their eyes back home. But I never had whole levels where they went through me, occasionally on a key level I would glide through on or too, but not complete levels, very odd.

My dad really likes the pac man series and he olso got me a tiny pac man arcade game.

There's messages in every game. Like Pac-Man. Do you know what "Pac" stands for? P-A-C: program and control. He's Program and Control Man. The whole thing's a metaphor. He thinks he's got free will, but really he's trapped in a maze, in a system. All he can do is consume, he's pursued by demons that are probably just in his own head and even if he does manage to escape by slipping out one side of the maze, what happens? He comes right back in the other side. People think it's a happy game. It's not a happy game, it's a fucking nightmare world and the worst thing is, it's real and we live in it. It's all code. If you listen closely, you can hear the numbers.

Your never forget this playing out across an arcade.

I always loved this game, especially the arcade version. However, I never really noticed how annoying the backround sound (the siren sound) is until now and it could be because I am watching this with headphones on. Still, I am wondering if this is to annoy you through the game to not get through the higher levels.

I had respect till you added the ghost cheat.

did you know there is a glitch after round 255 since there is an internal binary indicator inside the game to show what round you are on but when all the numbers on there is 1 that means round 255 and when you complete that round (thus getting to round 256) the game gets confused and replaces the right side of the maze with numbers and stuff with 9 pellets to be eaten, but you cannot finish round 256, even if you eat every pellet on screen, since there are invisible pellets in the glitched out area that cant be eaten
