The fact that this game is fully voiced is quite mindblowing given the time. The "scale miniatures" size point is a really cool twist on the beat em up formula too. Are there any other brawlers that are similar in this regard? If only Warriors of Fate was more in line with this as apposed to "Final Fight in ancient China". Cause we don't already have dozens of Final Fight clones from the era, right?
Advice for new players: If your Vital is at or lower than 25% of your maximum Vital, add a credit or two and use it. This will add Vital based on your Maximum Vital. For example, if you use a credit when your maximum Vital is 64, you gain 64 Vital. The current Vital can be over the Maximum Vital, but after completing a stage, if the current Vital is over the Maximum Vital, it will then drop back to number based on the Maximum Vital. By doing so, you will be able to keep your score.
If memory serves me correctly, Zhao Yun (Chou-Un) and Zhuge Liang (Shokatsu-Ryou) didn't originally appear in the early skirmishes of the Yellow Turban Rebellion and join Liu Bei's (Ryu-Bi) cause until later times. As for Lü Bu (Ryo-Fu), he didn't really perish in battle until some years after the fall of Dong Chuo (Dou-Taku), to which he had done the dirty deed of betraying the latter, (SPOILER ALERT), by killing his adopted stepfather Dong Chuo not in battle, but on the spot.

@@Fargusno7930 actually, Koei's games tend to portray Nobunaga in more balanced manner... Samurai Warriors is an outlier, as it deliberately went for the over-the-top stylistic, for which Demon King Nobunaga is basically required.
For us Three Kingdoms fans: (Only listing bosses named with cutscenes) 1: Cheng Yuan Zhi; 2: Zhang Jiao (along with Zhang Liang and Zhang Bao in the boss fight); 3: Hua Xiong (most likely); 4: Lu Bu (Not named, but that's him); 5: Dong Min (most likely, could be any one of Dong Zhuo's henchmen); 6: Li Jue (most likely based on pronounced name); 7: Dong Zhuo (obviously)
5 years later watching this again with some more notes and corrections: Stage One the boss (Cheng Yuan Zhi) is accompanied by Deng Mao, his lieutenant. Stage Two's bosses are Zhang Bao and Zhang Liang (who also show up in Stage Three). Stage Three has Zhang Bao, Zhang Liang, and Zhang Jiao. Stage Four's miniboss doesn't give his name but could be any one of Hua Xiong's subofficers stationed at Sishui Gate: Li Su, Hu Zhen, or Zhao Cen. The boss is definitely Hua Xiong ("Wie Siong") Stage Five, Li Jue seems to be the first miniboss (he says his name is "Lie Chui" which is phonetically close). The second miniboss might be Guo Si (who would make sense given the first miniboss is his partner in crime Li Jue) but it's hard to tell since he gives his name as "Khe Chi" and I can't find any of Dong Zhuo's generals whose name even remotely seems close to that. The stage boss is Lu Bu ("Li Pu"). Stage Six none of the minibosses identify themselves but each could be any one of Dong Zhuo's henchmen or relatives. Still not sure who the boss this stage is, it's very hard to figure out what it says after. It sounds almost like "Chang Chi" so could be Zhang Ji since he was with Dong Zhuo at this point. Stage Seven The first miniboss gives his name as "Si Yong", which is most likely Xu Rong. Next we have "Lie Joo" which while it sounds like Li Jue, is most likely Li Ru (also he has the look and general behavior during the encounter of a strategist) Stage Eight, I don't think the first two "minibosses" at the very start are actually minibosses, more like just elite enemies but hypothetically they could be more of Dong Zhou's cronies. The next miniboss is Lu Bu again. And finally is Dong Zhuo ("Thung Chok").
+SMAXZO All of Capcom's Rot3K-based games (the two arcade beat-em-ups and the two NES RPGs) were based off of Hiroshi Motomiya's 'Tenchi wo Kurau' manga series.
Technically not stretched (CPS1 games ran at 384x224; this is using perfect pixel aspect ratio), but I see what you mean. CPS1 games were still meant to be played in 4:3
