It's even more fun to play against another opponent. I used to have guys lined up behind each other to play me in the arcade :D My favorite memory was playing a guy who wanted to bet me and said, if you lose, you pay me a dollar. I said what if you lose.. he looks at his girl and said you can have her. And he lost! lol And she said.. well I guess I'm yours. Just like in the game. lol
One good hit and you get the bull "right below the horns and between the eyes." One miss and he gets YOU right where it counts. And the bull has cousins and brothers too... :P
I first played this game in June 1984 when in holiday in Weymouth, England. To this day I still know the controls off by heart. I’d give my Xbox away for a chance to play it again. They had a lite version on the App Store a while back, but that’s fine now too. Nostalgia rules OK!
After about the 6th DAN, this game gets serious. You have to have almost lightening fast reflexes to win! As a kid playing this game, I never could get much past the 4th! Then again, I always tried to get too fancy with my moves :)
actually with a little practice, the game is quite easy until the "champ" modes (level 11) provided you don't attempt high-scoring moves too much yeah. Difficulty setting doesn't matter after that. And the CPU is moving so much faster than human player it's quite unfair.
Later stages are strangely easier. The computer immediately does huge full point moves, you block, and do a lunge punch to the face. Go through all the dans till you return to the first stage.
Now this version was the one I remember! It has the 3 bulls during the skill screens! I've beat the game too. I believe it was 1987. I never knew there was an end to the game until then.
Wow! Nice job! I could get to the 2nd or 3rd level once the game wraps around and you get the double speed opponents, but I pretty much thought it was impossible to get much higher than that. Took like a half hour to just get to that point, so to practice at these high levels was a hell of a time sink. It was fun back in those days -- I want to say like 1985 -- I would have been 10 years old. Always got a big crowd behind me. :) Blows my mind that you beat it. Awesome! The rumor in my neighborhood was that you fight the judge at the end! (That actually would have been pretty cool.)
Came here to remind myself what the arcade version of this classic looked like. If anyone is interested Karate Champ 2000 on the Amiga is in development and looks to have nailed the look and feel of this.
Trivia time (I don't know the answer.) Does anyone know if there was any meaning to the phrase "CX-27" on the wall and boxes in the alley on stage 1? I've searched all over, just curious as it's one of my favorite games of all time. I suppose since it was made in the early 80s it could be the birth year of one of the developers - but I can't credits for the team anywhere.

Very good longplay proving mastery of the game. Not sure if player loses on purpose on levels 11 and 12 (1 1/2 point for the cpu then human wins). Also complete master of the bonus sequence (evade is horrible)
