[ARCADE/MAME] Hyper Sports - Longplay / Playthrough (EASY)

Longplay, or rather walkthrough / playthrough of HYPER SPORTS the arcade / coin-op from Konami played on 'easy' settings - this is the sequel to "Track & Field"!

So I was recording some footage of the arcade version for my Amstrad video review of the conversion, when I actually did pretty well for my first ever go on this! So I decided to record my 2nd go on this game and here we are!
Yes, it's EASY settings and I make a few mistakes. I'm not an expert and this isn't an 'expert video' - this is my 2nd play ever on this game - however I had played Track & Field a lot years ago, and the Amstrad version has similar gameplay mechanics in terms of when to hit buttons, angles to use, etc so that helped. So consider this more a playthrough to see each of the levels and roughly what you need to do. On the Skeet Shooting level I was suffering slow down from the video recording which made this difficult to time right, but you'll notice my high score from my earlier first game there!

I have good memories of playing this on a ferry crossing from England to France in May 1985, while on a school holiday trip for a week. The game graphics seemed much more impressive back then though! :D

Best score in continuous mode on an original coin-op machine, with buttons, back in the late 80's was 522.480. Events scores: (not all in the same game) Swim - 48.30s Skeet - 18,200pts Vault - 9.60pts (12 turns with a bad take off) Archery - 10,800pts triple Jump - 19.35m Weight Lifting - 465kg Pole Vault - 5.94m

Ciao, io ero il più forte del mio paese, i record venivano registrati. nuoto, 46:50, tiro a segno 19600, salto con pedana 9.75, freccette 10800, salto triplo 19,22, sollevamento pesi 540kg, salto con l'asta 5,96. giocavamo i 3, 2 eravamo nella velocità, e uno era solo per l'aria del nuoto, freccette, e tutti i salti, ma nel tiro a piattello ero solo io...... bellissimi tempi, nell'86, avevo 12 anni

Only know the C64 version. It is amazing it was ported that exactly from the arcade version...And now I learned the Commodore port lacked pole vault!

@@lucaschapman2188 anyway you can translate that with Google translate LOL, I said Rimini was full of arcades during the 80s and the first half of the 90s, I played Street Fighter 2 for the first time in Rimini. That's what I said. Sadly there isn't even an arcade left in Italy. Maybe one in Rome? Anyway, bye bye

its not "sampled" speech the games hardware uses a VLM5030 speech synthesis chip designed Sanyo the same chip was also used for the speach in Nintendo's arcade game Punch Out as well. as well as a number of other arcade games at the time ..

I have a Hyper Sports machine sitting in my basement. Power cord went bad tried to replace it, hasn't worked since.. Billyboy and I would have had some challenging scores to try and beat .

I remember getting up to featherweight when this was in my local arcade. But I had real problems with the triple jump and pole vault.

I remember seeing some guys back in the 80s who must have been musicians who were drumming the buttons with their fingers, must have been tapping those things twice as fast as a normal person could and they were doing the full 260kg most attempts. They were so good they just kept cycling through all the events for hours.

There are a total of 16 difficulty settings to this game (easy 1-4, medium 1-8 and hard 1-4) and it's default at medium 8 at least in Mame, which is definitely 10 times harder than this =)
