Great looking cab, but LACKING VALUE for the cost... I mean, the audio isn't good, WiFi doesn't work right, only 3 games are included, they still haven't upgraded the crap controls... just getting really hard to justify these issues when they charge what they do. At $299 or even $399, you could justify some corners cut. Not anymore.
Love that title! Quick correction, though: The game is based on the abandoned Pryde of the X-Men series (hence Kitty Pryde in the cutscenes) rather than the famous Fox show. If there was a lawsuit over the game tie-in, it would be because the tie-in show only produced one episode. EDIT: The episode is available on RU-vid. You'll see that the X-Men team is the same as the roster in the game.
Still wish this team was used. Maybe replace dazzler with gambit but they are kinda similar enough to just leave her. Maybe she would be more popular today but whatever. Love the pilot episode ever since I saw it back on VHS back in the day. Still watch it on RU-vid every month it seems lol.
@@mattgilson697 wolverine, cyclops, gambit, rogue, storm and beast but 4 player so you would end up leaving 2 out. Heck as long as you don't put useless Jean Grey in there, you'd have my money lol. Can't stand that "uunnghhhh" and collapse bullshit she pulls every episode she's in.
Great review as always. The fourth button looks like it gets in the way when playing X-men. The fact it was added to accommodate a subpar fighting game adds insult to injury.
The controls are a slight hinderance. But not as bad as “The Simpsons” layout. And definitely not unplayable or unenjoyable. The biggest glaring issues this cabinet has are the light up marquee & the lack of Spider-Man:The Arcade Game. The speaker gate issue is real & Online play is buggy to say the least. Doesn’t hold a candle to the online experience offered by the cheaper much better produced MVC cabinet. Arcade1up dropped the ball here a bit & it’s going to cost me even more to fix the things they slacked on [marquee & buttons]. I can’t believe this cabinet was double the price of my NBA JAM cab🤦🏻♂️. If they patched this with Spidey, I would forgive them for their shortcomings with this cab. But they’ll likely find excuses why they couldn’t do that post launch. Personally I say you do whatever it takes to make it right & just offer a different sku later with a Spidey skin & call it even. I could care less if the game wasn’t listed on the kick plate, just give me one more game to help with the disappointing purchase.
Thanks for the Review! It's this one n and the simpsons that I want but the xmen I have to get first lol . It's that music that I remember from the arcades!
Bad speakers (SF2 Big Blue, XMEN, Simpsons) bad control layout (Simpsons), washed out marquee print (XMEN, Simpsons), bad emulation programming (Tron). JohnD, what was the price hike for again??
I restored a Captian America arcade cabinet this summer. Character selection was based on cpo placement as well. It must be how Konami did it with some of their 4 player arcades. I believe 4 player TMNT was the same way. Fun video, Mike! Congrats again on your baby gamer!
Agreed on the sound and marquee wash-out. All of their marquees looked washed out to me honestly…definitely something they need to address with better ink/vinyl or something
@@MichaelBtheGameGenie I just pretend the machines are going for the “vintage” look so more along the lines of what a cab from back then would look today with some miles on it. So far it has saved me a ton of money in marquee replacements lol.
I'm totally in the fence on buying either this one, ninja turtles or The Simpsons. Love your videos tho bro. What would you recommend for a first timer.
It looks nice, but I’m leaning towards the Tempest cabinet. I’ve already got an Atari 12 in 1 and upgraded the trackball and spinner to the GRS versions and the thing is awesome… except for the monitor! It looks washed out or set too high on brightness which really detracts from the experience!
Great review! Only comment I would make is to talk about the game lineup first as that is the most important thing for us who are looking into a potential buy followed by the build quality and everything else. Thank you! Keep up the great work
Thes games are great but there is no way I could justify the cost and space required to have even one of these in my house when I can play these games on a TV. The small cabinets don't replicate the experience good enough to justify it. Great video tho.
@@MichaelBtheGameGenie Right on ! For me it just makes more sense to just build a custom Mame machine. The biggest thing I have against 1up is the fact that the buttons and joysticks are the main reason to buy one and they fail right off the bat. Everything else is just beating a dead horse
Yeah if thats what you want man, I like that they recreate the look and the buttons and joysticks do suck but i havent had any issue with them so far in terms of failure.
Your reviews are second to none, amazing work! my wife and I have recently started building our basement entertainment area with the purchase of the Attack from Mars pinball unit from arcade1up. With the exception of resolution which I can get over it is a beautiful looking machine. We would like two more machines. Your arcade is totally kick butt! I will watch all your reviews, thanks from a fellow Canadian.
I’m new to the Arcade1UP machines recently got one. Now I’m already on the look for my next one 😂. I’ve been looking at the X- men one but the 4 players deck is the only thing throwing me off. The art on the X men Cabinet. The coin slot just makes it really work. Great review
What’s wrong with the sound? I have most of the X-Men parts except the riser, but I have a different riser with red trim and X-Men riser graphics. Would different speakers help? Is it the PCB or speakers that are the problem? If it’s the speakers then you can easily use different ones that have a standard rca speaker plug. I want to finally build an X-Men. I have a Simpsons built and a TMNT in Time disassembled.
Buttery smooth review Mike. Nice looking cab. One request, instead of saying "could cause issues if you are extremely tall" give a specific height. Frustrating that you have to put a ticket in, seems like this happens every other cab fornyou
There was one on Xbox 360, still think about it to this day even though my 360 is long gone. Fantastic port of the 6-player version, never came over to the Xbox One.
Michael, since your room is almost finished you gotta make a video on the top arcade1ups you own as a Canadian, I have yet to find a Canadian list yet! - Canadian Arcade1upee
If only I had the money, I'd buy it off you. But, I'm in the U.S. Import fees, you know. I wanted this cabinet, but had to hit cancel, on the pre-order, when I saw how much it was, and that it was another forced bundle. Would've been so easy for A1up to just put a true 16x9 monitor, or ultrawide, in there to capture the true aspect ratio of the coin operated variant. I'd highly recommend upgrading the speakers, with a set of 20, to 25 watt, 8" speakers, and amp, taking the audio directly from the PCB, to get around those dynamics issues, in X-men. Congrats on getting that one. Very cool. Thanks for the review.
Great review, enjoyed watching! Hope the WiFi issue turns out to be minor. Wonder if it has a problem with the 2.4Ghz vs. 5 Ghz band on many routers? Sometime ago with the Oculus Quest I, a buggy update was released that had an issue staying connected to an SSID/router that was both 2.4/5Ghz using the same name for both bands. I wound up separating the SSID's as someSSID24 and someSSID (where this one was 5Ghz). That fixed the issue for me, but it will be a PITA to do so as you may have many devices that you'll need to reconnect. Something to try though.
My X-Men cabinet had the same issue with connecting to the multiplayer server. They sent me a new PCB. I will let you know how that works out as I have yet to install it.
loved the x men game in the arcade , great video my dude! did you hear about they are rebooting xmen the cartoon with the original theme song? hopefully it will be as awesome as it was in the 90s , meaning style and action
this is my fav beatemup out of the bigs (tmnt, simps, doubledrgn, finalfight, goldenaxe), unfortune, i have run out of room in my arcade unless i again get rid of or move more stuff around. out of all the arcade1up out there, this and stand up star wars are the only ones left that i want. If they ever do Q*bert or Operation Wolf, I would buy those right away, no hesitation.
I never see you using mutant powers on the X-Men when you play it but yeah if you want to sound to get better too I think you could put better speakers to or bigger ones I like it do you think this one is better than the Simpsons cabinet oh but Captain America in Avengers that sounds loud for some reason 🕹🎮😀👍🏽
Not seeing the value of laptop size displays and arcade experience in the same context. They could easily purchase 19" displays in bulk for same price. Lame.
I'm only getting this cab for Xmen cause like you it's a game I have fond memories of playing when I was a kid I honestly don't care for internet capabilities or the other games
So I felt like the response to the controls was really sluggish on this cab but figured it may have just been me not remembering how it played very well. Tonight I pulled up X-Men on the Legends via Pi4 OTG and it was night and day in its responsiveness compared to the A1Up cab. Have you experienced this?
The X-men cabinet is one I’ve been wanting to add to my home arcade since this thing started now that I have the Simpson’s this one and killer instinct will probably be my last due to space but who knows
Great review MichaelB. Hopefully well get a Konami collection 12-in-1 in the future! That I'd bight on for sure! And congrats on the new addition to the family!
So far I'm really pleased with the cabinet. The most annoying issue is that 3P's buttons (ie. Cap's slot) are in a different formation than everyone else which IMO is much less ergonomic. From what I can tell there's no reason for the change other than to be annoying. 😑
There is a solution for that now. An $800 6 player deck by 99 lives/Greg Zaker that fits the 1up cab and has many games loaded on it including other Konami games. I have it but haven’t used it yet, it still has clear plastic on it. I also have most of the X-Men Arcade1up cabinet parts from ebay except the riser. I have an MK riser with red molding that I can use with X-Men riser graphics I have. The only thing with the A1up X-Men pcb is that it’s not softmoddable like the Simpsons and TMNT in Time. You are stuck with the three games unless you use a 99 lives deck or something. I sort of retired my Turtles in Time and might build X-Men and put it near where it was.
Recroom Master shut down due to a lack of shipping materials getting into the US... yet Arcade1up persists without issue... let that sink in yall... an American made, QUALITY cabinet maker for YEARS shut their doors because they couldn't get SHIPPING SUPPLIES! Yet these cheap, overpriced turds are everywhere. . .
Welcome to Buy - Now that's a true fan! I was obsessed with this game as a teen. I'm contemplating buying it, but never bought a full machine like this. I wonder what happens if it breaks? Who would fix it?🤔
Accessories & parts are incredibly easy to come by. Two years ago I came across a arcade one up ninja turtles machine that somebody had placed outside by their curb and was going to throw away because the screen had been smashed from someone punching it. I was able to get a replacement screen on eBay for less than $100 and they’re incredibly easy to put together and take apart. All in all I think it’s about three or four pieces of electronica equipment needed to install.
