Is there a guide for selecting the correct wattage of these lamps? Distance to basking spot and minimum distances from enclosure walls/ combustible materials etc.

Hi you replied to a comment of mine but I cant find it now ,,so the question is, in a 3 foot open ish top aquarium I have a bearded dragon and I would like to know the best halogen basking spot or flood . His back would be about 7 inches from the dome . the cold side of the tank is open but the basking area is closed with a dome sat on a grid. Thanks in advance

Great video I always enjoy watching them! So I have a bearded dragon and I currently have a CHE which I want to change to your 75W halogen light and pair that with the already T5 UVB 12% bulb. Will I even need the DHP bulb then? Does the DHP take place of UVB bulbs. Halogen are UVA rich and T5 bulb is UVB rich correct?

Hi there. I'm upgrading my beardies terrarium to an exoterra 67 gallons (90cm x 45 cm x 60cm) and wanting to get a new basking light. Which lamp and on which wattage would you recommend? Is to be used with a T5 12% desert uvb so the basking spot won't be higher than 30 cms tall.
@ArcadiaReptile
@ArcadiaReptile 2 года назад
hi, in most cases the 75w PAR30 Halogen flood or PAR38 100w halogen flood is the best choice when used with a good dimming thermostat. A nice bright and wide flood of rich light that can reach high basking temps
@Shades1535
@Shades1535 2 года назад
Is the floodlight or spotlight more suitable to provide a basking spot in a 18x18x12 enclosure? Also: is the halogen not appropriate for basking spots specifically? Ty!
@ArcadiaReptile

thats quite a small viv, so i would always use a small Flood lamp. Our 75w and 100w Halogens are flood lamps, so can be used in larger vivs.

I have a 48x24x48 enclosure for a panther chameleon and running a 75 and 50 watt halogen should I use the 100w to bring the temperature up it been at a constant 74° throughout the day because its a little cold and at night drops to 61°,Or should I use a different bulb like the basking spotlight to bring those temps up
@ArcadiaReptile
@ArcadiaReptile 2 года назад
using a flood type lamp is always preferable. A wider and safer projection. With chameleons, especially those kept in mesh, maintaining a set gradient is hard as we are always subject to the ambient of the room with very little cage insulation. The PAR38 100w lamp is very powerful and you should always use these well insulated and hot lamps with a suitable dimming thermostat. For night time you may be better adding in a DHP which will maintain gentle heat without visible light

It is a fairly big animal and we need to cover as much of the body as we can. A 100w tungsten Flood or PAR38 halogen flood will do it, but you will need a good dimming thermostat to ensure safe temps.

Sorry, 80W DHP not 100W
@ArcadiaReptile
@ArcadiaReptile 2 года назад
That would depend on the size of enclosure ad distance to basking. The 100w Halogen is very powerful with a wide beam. 70C at 15" on full power. Unless your cage is huge you are better with the 50w in both.

A nice big species when grown. I would use a 100w PAR38 Halogen flood and 50w DHP combo run through dimming stats and caged. This will easily provide heat over a wide space, fill the terrestrial spectrum and provide bioavailable energy at night,

the 100w halogens r a great size for large reptiles but the 75 is very small so unsuitable. I also had an issue with both 100w blowing after a few mnths use (on a habitstat theromstate and komodo fixture), a few keepers have reported similar issue. i am on my second set lets hope these last. I am using the DHP aswell, great bulb. And ur T5's :) Nice informative video

@ArcadiaReptile
@ArcadiaReptile 3 года назад
You simply need to choose a lamp that can do the job and then allow your dimming thermostat to regulate the emission. The 100w Flood lamp produces a very wide highly bioavailable projection for daytime use. The 80w DHP could be used day and night if nighttime heating is required for you.

Choice of lamp is down to the needs of the species, its size and your ambient temp. In most cases with a room ambient of 17C or so a 75w flood will do the job with a good dimming stat

What are the differences between the halogen and the floodlight?
@ArcadiaReptile

Halogen lamps use a tungsten filament within a halogen gas which creates more light per watt used than standard tungsten. They are also better reflected and insulated. In terms of spectrum, they are very similar.

It 100% does provide IR-B and lots of it. DHP provides both some IR-A and more IR-B as the prime projection. Then a little IR-C mainly from convection of the glass.
