Not a day goes by without the enemy! (40yr old part goth/mother/rocker and raver here. If it's got a wicked riff or hard beat I'm in to it,) The shizit:-gak bitch. Is next on the playlist)
Tear down the walls Wake up the world Ignorance is not bliss So fed up with second best Our time is here and now I am the enemy I am the antidote Watch me closely I will stand up - now We will rise Rise above Stereotype Fools Playing the game Nothing unique They all look the same In this sea of mediocrity I can be anything Anything I want to be We will rise
I doubt you actually stood death metal growls in your first listen. It's like listening to Satan in person. It took me a year of trying to like these bands.
Did you pay attention to what she sing? Angela has shown us the way, it was never about the face, it was about intention. She promised to be with us for the time, not forever
This song is so metal. It's no the heaviest or anything, but it's metal on top of more metal and even more heavy metal. Every single thing in this song screams metal.
My Apocalypse, We Will Rise, The Immortal, Silverwing, Skeleton Dance, I am Legend / Out for Blood, Aces High (Iron Maiden cover), Symphony of Destruction (Megadeth cover). 👍
I lost mine to my dad playing the first Sabbath album, first track, on an overpowered vinyl setup during a fucking lightning storm that struck our yard as I watched out the window. Needless to say, I shit my pants at the age of 5 and this year at the age of 29, I purchased that same album on vinyl and a turntable as Christmas presents for him. He's just as responsible as Sabbath is for influencing my taste in art.
Angela is just much more beastly and has a depper/powerful voice. Alyssa is a little too cute but she's a strong vocal too for Arch Enemy. Been following them since Anthems of Rebellion.
This was my intro to this band and likely to melodeath as a whole. For some reason I woke up with it in my head, despite not listening to it for yrs. Well here I am 19 yrs later. And its still stellar.
Even though there are a lot of people on this comment thread that are mentioning how awesome Angela was as a singer [which she definitetly was], it should also be pointed out what a badass guitarist Christopher Amott was as well. Am not denying that Jeffrey that replaced him is talented, because he certainly is, but with Christopher you can feel how he just plays a lot tighter and adds that essential dose of guitar brutality that makes "Anthems of Rebellion" such a great album.
Yeah Chris and his brother having trained together at school and played together for so long- theres really no substitute for. Also worth mentioning that at a time when most bands of the genre were becoming more and more interested in 7 and even 8 string model guitars (in the case of meshuggah), the amott brothers were proponents of detuned 6 strings with corresponding action and bridge adjustments to get more of the "brutality" you mentioned. There's just a sickness to that healthy "thwack" of a detuned guitar through.... I think they were playing kranks? I don't remember.
Angela Gossow is a badass babe....she is most definitely my fave heavy metal goddess. I never get sick of watching her and listening to her music..her legacy will never be forgotten and will always be known as the one who made growling fuckin awesome. I dig her passion and I love the energy in her music..
My first concert was Arch Enemy, at 16 y/o in 2006 and got to see Angela!!! I was so inspired by this goddess!! Best concert ever! I love her voice the best because she's got that deep mature woman voice, and while I also enjoy Alyssa, she sounds too 'youthful'. Hopefully her voice will get richer over time.
Took me a week to remember this song after seeing them on Vevo and refusing to Google .. but goddamn, this was a corker I had on repeat back in 2009! 🤘
The song that introduced me to Arch Enemy and melodic death metal genre in my teens. I was blown away hearing Angelas growls , in fact I'm still in awe of her growls. Seen this band live few years wish i saw em with Angela, no hate on Alissa though she's awesome too!
@@Herebedragons991 Awesome have fun! I saw Arch Enemy with Behemoth about 2 weeks ago. Awesome gig. Can see my concert footage on my channel if you want.😊
The Anarchist You are right ,Arch Enemy is from Sweden ,but Angela was born in North Rhine-Westphalia,West Germany .For those about to rock ,i salute you!
Got hit by nostalgia and am listening to all the great songs from my high school years in the 2000's and I finally got to this gem. Once a masterpiece, always a masterpiece!
I miss Angela’s presence. Alissa is great but she seems more theatrical with her costumes and hair. Angela’s presence was a force and she just rocked a tank top and pants
Yes, that's true and in fact Angela herself wanted Alissa to be the new singer because she has an astonishing voice, both clean and growl, and a stunning presence on scene. Arch enemy is one of most theatrical band in the metal scene, especially when performing live so the singer perfectly suits the band needs.
Alissa, I wouldn't call her outfits costumes, she is just dressing how she wants, being herself. Plus she shouldn't care what other people think about her being in Arch Enemy when Angela herself chose her replacement and manages her. Both are great in their own aspects.
@@chavextermination oh c'mon... it's called marketing. Angela couldn't keep on singing forever (she's getting old for that kind of life, metal scene is ruthless with women plus being on tour all the time is exausting), especially in a band where frontman alone make half of the show. She tought she could do better as a manager, i totally agree with her. Her first decision was nailed. They needed fresh meat for attracting younger fans (call them stupids) and they chose the best female singer/performer existing at that time.. Wasn't a hard choice i suppose. She's damn good for them.. Fans have to get used to this and start appreciating what Alissa can bring to the band.
@@BlackRoseImmortal75 calm the F down, I understand that bands have to change. I am jus saying I can't get on board with Alissa's vocals. I am not saying she should leave, I am not saying she is bad, I just don't like Archenemy with her as the vocalist. Why you take it personally? Seems like you have been fighting in the comments for a bit too long.
There's a mashup of We Will Rise on youtube. Someone mixed them both together. It's really cool. Search foe it. They're both great at it IMO. Alissa might even have Angela beat, damn.
I don't just have a chubby for ang, this is some of the best music I heard ever,, I was a janitor and would listen to this on my I pod while i worked, like 10 years ago. It brightened my day and gave my life meaning
I still come back to this amazing song. I had the MTV2 Headbangers Ball Disc 1 & 2 😍 both discs were my introduction to metal, and I absolutely love it.
