I shoot 3-finger very rarely. Sometimes I miss it or the bows I can't shoot with thumb release. I started with olympic style shooting in 2002 because the chain of tradition was broken and there was nobody who shot with thumb release in Turkey. It took some research, numerous tries and great help from mentors like Adam Karpowicz to understand the technique (still contemplating and experimenting on it).
I also started Olympic style. One day, when I realized that I was really good at shooting without the sight, I also realized that bows with "sights" is not for me. I realized my skill with a bow surpassed that kind of archery. Then I got a traditional American recurve as a gift and I shot it till it broke basically. Then somehow I got into contact with Lukas Novotny and he got me into thumbring archery. I haven't looked back. There is nothing like the crisp release of a thumbring and shooting a target off of a horse. I think horseback archery is the sport that would keep compound bows and modern bows from completely taking over...because those bows cannot be used on horseback.
Hi. Since I can't find any references and you listed a kaya. In your collection. Is there an ideal arrow length. And spine for. Thumb drawn bows like the kaya. Or the Turkish style. I shoot. 34 inch from nock to point heritage 150. Wondering what you prefer
Great stuff, foiling boomerangs into super sharp clubs was all the rage when we were young. Dads spent most Sunday arvos waiting in Hospital EDs! Beauty Abdul.
You called me a " arrogant asshole" before for my opinion on speed shooting. After years of practice I've found I was right and I don't hate you! Thank you for your work in archery.
I've recently become very interested in turkish archery .Your videos are a great resource for information. They are quite entertaining too, shooting a cigarette and a candle flame was dam impressive . Thanks for all you share.
Murat, hello from New Mexico. love your video. Was looking for information after shooting my Grozer Turkish Bow for the first time today, and saw your video. This bow throws an arrow like a thunderbolt, and gives me a new appreciation for the Turkish light cavalry of old. Based on your interests as reflected in this video we could be brothers which I think is amazing all by itself.
+Gõcauo Ramiriç I do like Grozer bows. I just uploaded a new video about testing three of his models. Testing the bows in a scientific way and publishing the results would be great approach to make it easier for people to make better choices when they're buying bows. Grozer was so self-confident and shipped the bows for a detailed assessment. These three were found to be excellent bows in many aspect but of course, not all the models of Grozer are identical in performance. And undoubtly there are other bowyers who make good bows. Each brand has its pros and cons and so has each model of the same brand..
@Anthony Maurice Depending on the bow. There is a common belief that TR bows were all short. In Topkapı Palace Museum collection there are bows as long as 135 cm. And the empire had Crimean Tatar bows as well that were manufactured also in the Ottoman Istanbul and allowed even longer draws. But most of the modern eplicas are around 125 cm and only a few was said to stand 32 inches of draw
Dogru ismeniz nedir, lutfen? Now in english you speak wonderful english, you give excellent narration and are a superb archer! My last self bow broke too, after a week of work. I have a log of Ozark orange tree, and will make a short composite bow like the ancient Turkish bows I saw years ago at Dolmabahce. A question, can a usable recurve like yours be made at 25 lbs , about 12 kg? Recent surgery removed part of left shoulder joint and collar bone was shortened. Can no longer work with 50 lb bows. It also ruined my golf game. About the atlatl, i was surprised to see you with one. They are legal to hunt deer, along with bows and rifles in Missouri where i live. With an hour of practice, i could hit deer size targets at 100 ft. Amazing weapon. Keep up excellent videos. Allaha ismarladik! Kadri/Karl
Try FPV quadcopter flying at 100mph with goggles. That feels like being strapped to the front of the arrow!! Some very beautiful bows in your collection. May your arrows fly true.
Hello Murat, Just so you know - there is a large community of thumb ring archers in Russia, including several bowyers. Language might be a barrier for some, but not for all. That's their gathering place: www.bowmania.ru/forum/index.php?board=27.0

Hi! Thank you for your motivating compliments. I'd recommend you to buy a high-quality all-resin replica if your priority is toughness and life expacrancy. Onur Şimşek in Turkey makes excellent look-aliles that alsı have amazing energy efficiency as an all-resin Turkish bow. Tuncay Keskin makes also excellent bows, both laminated and all-resin. The all-resin model is branded "Bala". Hope it helps. Greetings from Istanbul
Thank you for all the information, I love history and archery. Im an a hunter as well and hunt with modern compound bows, but after watching some of your videos, and learning about these ancient designs, makes me want to step up my game and either construct, or practice with these older more practical style bows. I live in the US in Florida and would really like to test these fascinating bows one day. Does Adam Karpowicz still produce these works of art?
Andrew hydrogen fracturing Yes, Adam keeps making bows and doi ng research on Turkish and other types of compote bows. I always admire your facilities of bowhunting in the US and dream of coming to bowhunt with Turkish traditional equipment
Hello, i am very interested in buy a turquish bow an start to practice the thumb ring technique. I go sometimes to Istanbul and i want to knows if you can recomend to me good quality ones. Thanks you very much and continue with your videos, they are really awesome.
+Abel Villarreal Thanks for the encouregment. We usually use Grozer bows in our group, and Korean (Kaya) and some other Hungarian bows (like Istvan Toth) are also in use. Lately we intended to get Zsolt Csermak's bow (he sent prototypes to test and the results were satifying). There a re a few Turkish bowyer WHO has been making synthetic material bows recently, but I have no idea about their quality. I will make comments as soon as I can shoot and test some.
Hocam selamlar.
Please have a look at my videos about bow test. These give a lot of valuable and evidence-based information about the performance of some brands. Other than those there are some good bowyers but I can not say anything about the bows I have bot tested yet. Additional to what you will see in the videos I can say that Grozer biocompsite is not a durable bow despite its amazing look-alike design and energy efficiency. Depending how often you use the bow or how long you draw it will be long-lasting unless you make mistakes like inproper stringing-unstringing or shooting light arrows.
Merhabalar!
Hello! There are always solutions in the cyber-world. As you see, I can reach RU-vid, like anyone else in my country. Anxiety because of increasing totalitarism still remains though...
Neden Imperial Sistem'i kullanıyorsunuz? Saldırmaya vs çalışmıyorum merak ettim açıkçası.
Rica ederim!
+Max Park Thanks! It is true that organic composite Korean bows take the shape of a circle when unstrung. But all my Korean bows are replicas made of synthetic materials.
A sling is as good as its user. You sir did not grow up slinging therefore you dont know that you can be accurate with it and slingers outranged archers for a long time
Throwing sticks, as mistakenly called "hunting boomerangs" have been widely used everywhere, ana outside Australia too. The oldest one known had been excavated in a cave in Poland and dated back to 20.000+ years. In the southwest of North America such weapons were used under the name "rabbit stick", to hunt rabbits as the name suggests. There is no evidence that they have been used by Turks.
