Yeah realizing n'tss cant be insta fusioned was also a big surprise to me, Just, like, "...why make It like this?" And i ask myself the same question when i see that vicious astroud cant be revived, Peak design.
I think this is my favorite video in terms of editing. 10:06 was when I actually thought something was wrong on my end and then I found out I was baited.
For me, it legit sounded like it was coming from the wall next to me, so I went to the window to make sure nobody was trying to climb up and break in. Freaked me the fuck out.
a friend of mine told me to go help him in diablo 4, which lives right under me, i though he climbed to the first floor to the window and knocked, i was super confused and a bit freaked out, even went to check,,,it wasn't him xD
Shoutouts to the fun editing on this one like hiding little ghouls here and there, randomly including door knocking sounds and people talking over the narration to make the audience think they're going crazy.
I once saw a whole team of people trying to make “Entity” work as an actual deck and enter a tournament with it. They didn’t do very well, but it was funny to watch them try making Hastorr turbo playable.
Yeah thats the one downside I found when trying to make an Entity deck. So I gave up and created a "cultist" archetype to support them and level 10 and 12 boss Synchros that required them as material. Even made some Links for support back when Links first hit. Good times.
You can thank the guy who donated some huge sum on Rata's charity stream a few months back; he asked for either Entities or something else I can't remember.
I'm shocked it didn't show up with a mention here. Guess we'll wait it out for the D/D Archetype Archive before the Entities crawl up out of deep space.
No one else has mentioned it, so I figure I might: I love that, among all the bizarre sanity effects used to sell the Lovecraftian theming of the video, one of the edits is putting "How to Piss Wrong" in Forbidden Apocrypha.
You take the moon and you take the sun. He'll always save the day. He'll take everything that seems like fun and always find a way. That's why the people of this world believe in Rata Rata Rata Rata Rata Rata!
That knocking at 7:02 is absolutely wild. I went back multiple times, and even when I knew it was coming, I still *felt* like it was coming from my door. Absolutely incredible editing work.
As a Call of Cthulhu player, having main deck investigators, cultists, and minor spawn of these eldritch animations would be so cool to add to the archetype.
I legit got so freaked out watching this at 2 am and thought someone knocked on my front door cause when I checked I realized my door was unlocked. Genuinely spent 10 minutes making sure no one got in
@@Honest_Mids_Masher Ye, of course. I love Invoked as well and Generaider feels like it as well, with Loptr being the cultist. But the Entities are way darker and it looks better.
2:50 you actually can’t summon N’tss with instant fusion because for some reason they thought it would be too OP while not giving nordon which is clearly better any restriction.
i mean nordon predates n'tss by a whole ass year, so looking at them side-by-side proooobably ain't the best way to gleam insight about the design process that said, the whole "must be either fusion summoned, or special summoned by" text had _i think_ only really appeared on beast-eyes at that point in time, so i imagine it's mostly just that they hadn't moved away from the design ethos of nonstandard summoning conditions and fusion summoning being mutually exclusive, and i'm not really surprise that they weren't gonna break that trend for _elder entity n'tss_ of all cards
@@quijassajiuq900 would you care to elaborate on this supposed other way to spend instant fusion involving n'tss, or is that some forbidden occultic knowledge that makes you poop toads for the rest of your life
I can tell this video came from Rata having a very specific idea and wanting to see it through, and I think he did a great job. That bit in the middle with the fake loading is an old trick, but it's one that actually almost got me because I was watching on my phone and my phone always likes to have a small hiccup regardless of where I am, so I almost thought it was genuine. Then Mr. Sausage hit me.
Lovely touches with the Eternal Darkness-style sanity effects. (Also, fun fact: Farmer Maggot isn't even in the Magic: the Gathering LotR set. The dogs who watch his mushroom fields, sure, but not him.)
Adamanciparors fit the theme and (If Azathoth was unbanned) actually play the deck in the intended playstyle. Plus there's the flavor win where these researchers keep digging until they find Cthulhu.
I think a really cool direction to take the archetype would be to allow them to break the rules of the game. A synchro that attaches its synchro materials and becomes treated as an xyz monster. A fusion that can be contact fused with a tuner and a non-tuner and the summon is also treated as a synchro summon. A link monster that must first be fusion summoned. A pendulum monster that can only be pendulum summoned from the graveyard. Lean into the incomprehensibility of their origin.
Nyarla actually had some use cases when Lunalight was meta relevant during TOSS, as it's detach is an effect rather than a cost just like redoer. This let lunalight yellow marten search serenade dance on the way to being handtrap safe through Aza if they opted into that route as opposed to ranking up with a blank redoer on their turn. Iirc the OCG had similar use cases for the card in Nekroz where they would use herald for kaleido, reattach herald, then let herald hit the grave getting two searches off the one. We never got to do that since we got Nyarla like 4 years later.
Do you think the reason the entities are all extra deck monsters is to coincide with the theme of them all being other worldly beings? Like the main the deck represents the mortal world and the extra deck represents the incomprehensible land that these beings call home?
Loved the touch of hidden text appearing in the background before the effects being listed. Made me think I was seeing things, which fits with the theme of the archetype.
The editing in this episode was SUPERB. Rata keeps setting the bar higher with each new section. I especially liked the Hastorr edit where the card art is flipped, it is so subtle yet it works so well with the theme of messing with the viewer's mind.
Yeah, I only remember Nyarla as an honorary Nekroz monster. Whilst the TCG suffered with using your Unicore + Manju to summon Daigusto Emeral to try and increase your resources, it was common on simulators for you to make Nyarla and attach Herald from grave to it. Then you had the option to either tribute Nyarla through Valkyrus to get a draw and a search, or if the old decks of 2015 or so couldn't beat over a 2600 wall, you could threaten to loop the Herald by detaching and re-attaching it every other turn. (Or every turn, if you Kaleidoscoped for another Unicore, which you bet your ass you did whilst he was at 3)
This video was very good. Unfortunately, Rata forgot that there is an level 5 Normal Monster that he knows that symbolically belongs to this archetype, and that can be used to summon Azathoth
I will never get over how Nyarla has probably the absolute RAWEST artwork of any YuGiOh card ever designed. It is so beautiful in how wrong it is to look at, and it is perfect in every way.
I think this might be the newest archetype you covered? I love the entity’s designs, though their idea sounds like something out of the anime. Hard to believe they’re game original.
I'd do an honorable mention for Dark Contract with The Entities. While the effect is D/D/D exclusive, it clearly references the entities by having different effects depending on the monster summoned from the extra, the name and the artwork that feature nyarla.
My absolute favorite “archetype” and I’m always bummed that it’s basically unplayable without its two banned cards. Least I’ve got Ghoti to fill that “beyond reality” vibe
@@ismaelhiza4423 I also love their vibe. Own a deck of them physically. Inspired by Mbt’s Myutant/Ghoti combo deck. Wish they had a few more tools to run better pure though
The fact that the deck was clearly designed to like, use one of the Synchro 4's to bridge to Nodens, then have Nodens bring them back for the Nyarla overlay to get to the Azzy really left the deck a shell of it's already barely extant self even *before* Azzy got banned. Like, "Get to Nodens" was the only play that made Azzy work at all, so the minute he was banned the deck didn't have any real play conditions, which is a shame.
@@thaddeusgenhelm8979 yea it basically did the one thing. It could do some occasional neat stuff with Hashtor and Nty’ss, but without its main playmaker, yea there’s nothing to make a deck around. All round quite the shame and a massive bummer for all this nifty artwork
The direction of Rata's videos are actually getting crazy. These editing jokes without hyperbole are kafkaesque and transformative. Okay maybe a little bit of gassing up Rata up but these are so good.
The funny thing is: I actually once made a custom archetype based on lovecraftian mythos before I knew that there were more entities than just ntss. Mine was called "Eldread" and focused on ritual and xyz summons, with the rituals having to be summoned from the graveyard to convey the whole "sleeping in their graves in the lost city" stick and a bunch of increasingly tentacle-ridden priests as searchers/dumpers. They're on dueling book by "Isitar" if anyone wants to see them. It's been I while since I made them though
I'm in love with the way this video is made. The jokes, the editing, the lore it's all amazing. Honestly this makes me want to see Rata analyze Lovecraftian references in other media like in Bloodborne
"the most undescriptible horrors man can't comprehend, as if they see them they become mad in fear" Proceeds to describe them so people can may understand how they look like
I used to run Hastorr in my speedroid deck (with it being a wind and an easy lv 4). Had a ton of fun with that card, especially as a fan of cosmic horror. Honestly, I kind of wished Azathought was a rank 12, with Azathoth being the outer god whose dreams created the universe, and if awakened, will erase all of existence.
Cant belive you didnt mention the fact that Tsathoggua shapeshifted in the most horrific entity in the entire game, so horrific that he isnt even included in the entity archetype due to his pure evilness: Toadally Awesome
Maybe… mix in some unconventional but thematically appropriate main deck monsters. Like perhaps have them be tied in as either servants of the entity, spawn of the entity, and spells/traps called rites of the entity. The collection would all be mostly lower level monsters with some higher level monsters representing some of the non-god terrors that supplement the power of the entities, like mother hydra, flying polyps, black goats, Star spawn, and the dunwich horror. Things you might go into before the main entity or during the proceedings in some cases. At least one card they should have is a dedicated win condition card call “the stars are right”, requiring 3 types of extra deck entity monster to activate where it begins unraveling their deck rapidly face down and locking down effects until either they manage to get the entities off the board. The smaller monsters helping to either get you to your win condition, bolster your entity, or recycle the key cards.
@@Motleydoll123yeah something like that. Low level monsters that extend, search or special summon (maybe even ignoring conditions) with some main deck boss monster(s).
@@Motleydoll123 "At least one card they should have is a dedicated win condition card call “the stars are right”, requiring 3 types of extra deck entity monster to activate where it begins unraveling their deck rapidly face down and locking down effects until either they manage to get the entities off the board. Just the idea of "unspooling" the entire field and re-writing the rules of the game on the fly with a card effect that requires nonsensical combos that seem to dead-end is fucking gorgeous. For Yog-Sothoth specifically I would recommend making him a Continuous Spell that acts as a floodgate for the archtype, but his name would sound like a monster card (Yog-Sothoth is the Gate and the Key)
@@StarboyXL9 indeed. The unraveling effect was a idea that rather than an instant win condition, you have this fitting moment where everything is coming to a end, forcing a kind of desperation that is fitting for a lovecraftian horror theme, a kind of seemingly inevitable where it seems like all could become lost.. And I agree yogsothoth could certainly be a monster or a continuous spell. Maybe it could be that is both potentially… a monster that either becomes a continuous spell, or a spell that transforms into a monster when the conditions are right. Might make it 2 cards where one is a continuous spell card called “the key and the gate”, and the other is outer entity yog-sothoth, either spawning or reclaiming the other, either through a specific effect, and each bringing their own form of floodgating effect and lockdown, forcing the opponent to use rather extreme methods to eliminate the entity.
Dreamland is a reference to the books "The Silver Key" and "Dream-Quest for Unknown Kaddath" in which the protagonist explores a dreamscape world for answers. Nyarlathotep and Hastur make an appearance in that story!
I really enjoy how Entities tried to marry Fusion, Synchro, and XYZ in a single deck, while using them to make each other. I actually kinda hope that some day maybe we'll get a Divine Arsenal archetype in a similar fashion, where they make other Divine Arsenals for the other monster types. The lore said there's 12 of them and AA-Zeus was only the last one made in the lore, so we could easily get others for Ritual/Fusion/Synchro/Pendulum/Link. Two ways they could go: either make them all Greek gods, or my preference of making them all the "lead" gods of different mythologies. For Greek gods, then we'd get like CC-Poseidon Sea's Rage and EE-Hades Hells Fire. For "lead" gods there'd instead be ones like CC-Odin, EE-Osiris, GG-Amaterasu, II-Indra. And then they'd all have similar summoning conditions and effects to Zeus. They would all require 3+ level 12 monsters as base materials, or could be summoned by sending the same card type to the grave if that card type battled this turn, and then have a powerful ignition effect with the cost being banishing that same type from your field/grave. Plus, if there's others, then you could potentially do Entity style summoning the other Divine Arsenals and then overlay them to properly summon Zeus.
5:17 The editting in the whole video is fitting. I certainly feel my sanity slowly leaving. Something as simple as a card art being mirrored after being covered is great. Especially since it's overshadowed by the more obvious distortions.
No wayyy. Out of all the archetypes, I expected this the least! Let's see how much lore rata shoved into this one and what gruesome fate awaits Jimbles at the end of this
Rata really used an Ordinary Sausage clip, I love it. I saw the loading circle and knew it was part of the video, but got genuinely confused when I saw Mr Sausage, since I watch him very frequently.
I would love to see Entity get a support wave. A cult, where main deck monsters have a mix of "destroy a monster you control" effects and on-death effect, eventually enabling a robust enough board state where you could summon multiple Extra Decks monsters legitimately in a turn.
Cthuga is kinda infamously an enabler of all sorts of janky and strange loops and FTKs. The on summon let's you recycle rank 4s like the limited emeral and the draw effects can let you draw combo pieces/your entire deck
I remember seeing a Halq Auroradon combo that made all 3 copies of Cthugua, then overlaid those and Coltwing for a 4 material Primathmech Alembertian... which then searched Rekindling to bring them back. Truly a horrifying play.
I like the theming personally. The fusions are the god-like beings Lovecraft made for a friend, synchros are the entities made by others, and the xyz are the main Lovecraft creations.
Definitely love the idea of this archetype getting more support based on the mythos. Maybe a floodgate version that restricts you’re opponent’s actions, or takes control of them. Basing there artworks on the black goats, or fish people. Or tentacle horrors.
I love how, like the average enjoyer of Lovecraftian anything, almost none of the things you mention are actually done directly by Lovecraft or even directly adapt to stuff he did 😂
Fun fact: Hastorr has a neat combo with Windwitch Diamond Bell. Summon Hastorr, use it as material form Diamond Bell, pop it with Diamond Bell, have fun with your stollen monster.
Very surprised this wasn't saved as the Halloween special, would have fit. Also, i'm absolutely down for more bite-sized AA videos that cover the smaller group of cards if they're easier to produce. -Teo
I really hope Konami release a wave of support to make this archetype becomes a real deck and maybe a competitive one. Because i love the art style so much, one of my favorite art style beside Vanquish Soul and Generaider
Cool video but I spotted a glaring issue. Butter Dog was actually never released outside of the Tag Force games. But, I heard they'll be adding it to Duel Links soon.
Surprised that we don't have Cthulhu yet Anyway I do like how the entity cards are theoretically very hard to access making building a deck to use all of them pretty hard and with strong effects, it's kinda help them feel more "Outer" and "Diety" like
@@louaidz1929 It'd be the optimal pairing. Kozmoll Deplorable Wizard, having both a lightning and smoke projection motif. Could be the new highest level "pilot" or even the archetypal Link.
I love this video having Sanity Effects. Must've been a lot of fun editing this one. Cannot be used as material for an Xyz summon. Here's hoping this archetype gets some actual support to limp along without its play-makers. I mean, its pretty simple to build a deck based on them, Just add level 2 Monsters that special themselves or special others like one of the resonators who specials a level 4 or lower from hand or do something else like drawing, like ipiria, while stocking up on the ready fusion and synchro fusionist who can add ready fusion when used as material, hell, you can even include some sprights to make the single most based spright variant.
