One of the things I think Autodesk misses when it comes to customer feedback has been the underlying request for customization to how people work and how firms utilize the software. I've heard a few of these roadmap discussions now where it has been brought up that Autodesk has spent a lot of time figuring out what should be on a panel and what should be categorized under Architecture or Structure. I think what people want more than anything is a more open platform in terms of how they work rather than a platform that dictates our workflow. The command line question in this discussion is a great example of this. Revit changed to keyboard shortcuts which is great for users who want quicker access to their typical tools. However, older users who have switched from AutoCAD to Revit have the issue of muscle memory and struggling with the shortcuts that are sometimes not very intuitive. A simple fix would be a toggle in the options window to use a command line or use the keyboard shortcuts. A more advanced fix would be to use a keyboard shortcut to open the command line and let a user type the command. Users should also be able to have a custom toolbar with buttons that they populate onto the toolbar. Rather than spending the time to do studies and research what needs a button and what doesn't, it seems like it would be easier to allow the users to decide what buttons they need and don't need on a user specific toolbar. Revit has a multitude of users with various backgrounds and use cases, but it always seems to want to solve only one problem for one use case for one type of user. Creating these solutions that open this software into more of a platform will likely help customers and it will likely reduce the amount of internal discussions or studies that occur at Autodesk to decide what goes where and how it gets implemented into a panel. Creating a more open platform for BIM will help open the door for many people who are still reluctant to use the software.
