I recently traveled to Croatia. Beautiful country but their streets are very narrow. Europeans would love Arcimoto much.

seeing a manufactoring company at that stage is really cool, and not to take the spotlight away from arcimoto, but its amazing to think that tesla all those years ago was pretty much the exact same. An idea and the determination to make it happen. Wish arcimoto the best of luck.

Thanks for doing this Gali. I found out abut this company through the guys at Know You Know and bought a few shares, just to support the cause. Their scope has broadened and their growth has been slow...but we know that ramping up and making those long awaited deliveries ( really long awaited ) a reality and them looking at vehicles in a new way is their niche. It's a gusty little company... and we need them to succeed and I hope they will.

The Deliverator is by far the most exciting aspect of what they’re doing. I can see that being a massive success. I think for a consumer, the Solo enclosed car (or the Smart Fortwo, Twizy, Uniti etc) is a better idea.

18:48 "Those that can should" Precisely my reasoning behind start saving money with my $1000 reservation for Tesla Model 3 back in 2016 to eventually buy one in 2018 (60k cost). Then few months later going full steam ahead with getting Solar System with Powerwall also from Tesla (another 60k cost) even as I needed to take a loan for that Solar investment. I also put in the more modest $100 (I think) reservation with Arcimoto even though it isn't clear yet that I will be able to drive one once I can take delivery of mine in TX without a Motorcycle license. Y, because I believe those of us that can should.

@@darinladd5312 I did invest in Tesla stock and the earnings from 2016 to 2018 did cover my full purchase of our Tesla Model 3. The Solar System with Powerwall will take a number of years to pay for itself by offsetting our electric utility costs. I have not invested in Arcimoto, other than the $100 put in as reservation and I intend to follow through with purchase of roughly $12,000 Arcimoto 3-wheel vehicle. Not sure when they will start making deliveries in TX and I am fine with waiting.

It reminds me of a renault twizzy, which I think is not available in the US. I think the styling could be a little refined but nevertheless all the best. I do own some stocks since a while, but I won't make it from Germany to the shareholder meeting 😅

@harry camper It's not "required" due to the three-wheeled design (homologated as a motorcycle for NTSB), nor is crash-testing; however, there are hard- and soft-side door options available when production commences. www.arcimoto.com/vehicle/ I'm continually amazed that people who comment miss this point--its on their website for *blank* sakes.

They probably understand that but this is still an expensive vehicle. It's almost 20k. Add the ridiculous import taxes in a lot of those nations and it's probably smarter to get started as a niche market vehicle in more wealthy countries. This looks like a great car for congested cities in North America, Europe and Asia.

i believe we think the same, I see this car doing great in India,south Asia,Asia and some place in Africa. The only thing is with it being build in the United states America mean there's a big product cost which will not make affordable in the outside market,it should also do good in places like Italy or Paris(france) since they very narrow.

mrclinf85 That factory is designed to be built to support local production. I think, from interviews, he has been thinking of India and Southeast Asia throughout this effort.

Big fan of Mark ( and Gali ) . FUV would be perfect for my short commute but I need a new ride by Aug and I don't think they can accommodate. Would like to hear how confident he is in battery supply too. Great stuff HyperChange !

Now THAT is the most relevant point I've ever heard in favor of risk. I would like to see Hyper Change comment on this obvious point: if everything is either OTS components, like bolts and tubing, EXCEPT for the batteries, then what is his level of confidence in the scalability of the battery supply? I'm not sure Elon Musk, who essentially controls this, is a Vanderbilt/Carnegie/Rockefeller capitalist, but the way those three fought each other in pursuit of total world domination is a good lesson in the risk of industry titans with intertwined supply chains.

I hope that Tesla see the importance of Arcimoto succeeding and thus offer a battery pack deal. Arcimoto’s weakness is that they have to compete with every other automaker for cells. Tesla can fix this if they choose to. It helps the mission.

I would really like to see what’s under the hood, such as battery, battery heating and cooling, motors, brakes, stability, and etc. Serviceability, how do you change the rear tire, how is the battery charged and so forth. There should be an online, downloadable owners manual. Great interview 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

GREAT interview! I would have loved to hear more about his thoughts on how to convince the public to buy into this kind of vehicle? Similarly, what kind of demand they're seeing (not exact numbers since I know they won't say, but just thoughts).

Good question. Especially considering all the naysayers who seem to comment on these post chains. From my discussions with them and their quarterlies, mum is still the word--with the exception of their "experience/rental centers." This is a great idea, but it will not create hinterland penetration outside urban centers. Then again, the rural suburbs are rife with golf cart communities....

This is a good question. I would ask the CEO of FUV how he plans to compete with SOLO, since Electrameccanica's designs do seem more appealing. Like they have doors for the winter time...

Watch the share price carefully and DO NOT place a market order. There are some institutional investors whose high-speed computers are fast-trading to drive up stock prices during "high volume" trades. With ~100K volume a day, it doesn't take but one or two market orders of a few thousand shares to engage these crooks. I mention this because it happened to me on my first purchase a year and a half ago--cost extra $.75/share the day I traded.

I love the vehicle and concept. The one disadvantage i see with the three wheel design is that some states (like New York) require the operators of such to get a motorcycle license. It would be so easy to rent these things out to tourists but if they need a motorcycle license they cannot legally drive them. They should thus make a four wheel version using some innovative body design. I would love to start a rental business using them.

Gali amazing how you show you journey from skeptic in your first mention of Arcimoto, to investor and now after the factory tour where you see the "really" long term potential. Yes this is different and many people will say no way ... until it becomes mainstream. Here in Europe many of the new incentive legislation being drafted are for smaller cheaper ways of private transport. FUV would definitely fit into that niche. Keep your amazing work and research

@@HyperChangeTV You see for that price I'd be asking myself do I buy this new or a used mini-cooper. I'd be answering myself go for the mini. Would you get any tax credit at all on this ev-batteries too small perhaps? You could get two motorbikes for that money, his & hers. They should be looking to get it under $10K and I would have thought that was too much for the Indian market. The standard Indian Tuk tuk is less than $3000. (and carries two passengers)

I wish Tesla would do an urban car like this (instead of a sub compact), but with full weather protection. Just ordered a MY. A light three wheeler would probably be the perfect second car.

It would be interesting if Arcimoto did some kind of research as to how this product will change people's lives in the city area & would they be willing to put down 17.5K - 20K for this? As investor, it will help to understand the direction of where the company / fuv products will head in the future

Cool vehicle, but its utility in terms of commuting during various weather conditions does seem too limited for this to ever hit critical mass. Hopefully they have a model in the works with a fully enclosed passenger compartment.

The deliverator seems like something very interesting for the doordash type delivery model or UBER eats model. My one issue with this, here in Phoenix, is my love of AC when it’s above 100F for 3 months. For the same reason I don’t own a motorcycle I just can’t own this in the Arizona heat. I agree with the other comment suggesting bigger overseas markets. India already has 3 wheelers but the price will have to be right.

What are you talking about? Tesla created more than half the global demand for EV batteries and Nissan another ~15%. Whoever manufactures the batteries, they can't be cheap if there's no demand.

That's not a bad observation; although Ghosn got into plenty of trouble using bad battery mgt software. Let's hope Arc uses some of Tesla's "secret sauce" WRT that.

I really want to see this company prove me wrong. The thing is, there is possibly more resistance to having a vehicle with an odd number of wheels than from going from internal combution engines to electric. And they are doing both. But I can see where they could make sales. And their timing is good. I agree with the CEO, that time is now, while everything is up in the air, regarding personal transportation. I think they realise they aren't going to get all America onto 3 wheels, but if they can get a good niche market across the wrold they will make it. I sincerely hope they do. Cause EVs can come in any size, for all I care, as long as there is at least one less FFV for one more EV.

Makes a lot of sense why you chose to invest. I guess looking at the charts December would been the best time to jump in for profits. If you actually see the company as a long term option then anytime is a good time. I may buy some myself in the coming months.

Haha, you mean when I bought thousands of shares? All we had to do was wait for the kneejerkers to get confused by financials showing capital investments in machinery and bail. Same thing happened to Tesla during Model S ramp-up. Keep an eye on price ... I suspect this will happen at least one more time before breakeven.

​@@HyperChangeTV I think they have stiff competition in the sense that they will be compared to electric motorcycles from Zero and the like. If they can get to a $11,900 base price they will be competitive with these vehicles, especially if they can provide: increased safety, easier operation, adequate weather protection. This is an interesting company because they seem to have a unique approach but such an approach brings up so many questions and unknowns!

Why didn't you ask about safety? The reason companies like this build a three-wheeled vehicle is because they don't have to comply with passenger vehicle safety standards. Also, how comfortable was it riding around in this open-air machine in cold weather? What if it'd been a huge rainstorm?

I like the scalable production line idea. Less risk overall, just in case they face less demand initially than the expect. This way they can scale over time as the demand grows.

Would it be interesting for Tesla (or another manufacturer) to get into this segment of auto-industry? And if so - how? To buy Arcimoto as a whole as was done with Maxwell and Tesla or some form of a strategic partnership? If Tesla wants to accelerate the advent of EVs, they could help by dropping a few millions USD here and there :) Just a thought though.

I'd call this an LUV - a Limited Utility Vehicle. Not because it's a two-seater, but because it's open to the elements. Put some doors on that thing, make the cabin fully enclosed. Put some rudimentary AC/heating in there, and you have a winner. Renault Twizy has the same problem. If I'm gonna use this thing for commuting, sooner or later I'll be commuting in rain and wind. I'm not buying anything that will cause me pneumonia at least once a year depending on the weather.

@@HyperChangeTV Well, technically yes. Signature series delivered before production ramp-up, but they were craft-built. I'm to understand later this calendar year. And, for those naysayers who just can't let go of the "vaporware" moniker, it is completely different to levy this on a company like Lit Motors, Elio, or Aptera who hadn't scaled-to-production yet; however, now that we've seen the factory, production equipment, and raw materials on-site (plus eight deliveries) we're no longer dealing with vaporware. These will be delivered. I haven't done the breakeven analysis, but that's the next step here (folks), not vaporware vs. realware.

The only thing that I don't like about 3 wheelers is that there is one more wheel catching the potholes, manhole covers, etc. and you are sitting on it.

I have two main concerns about owning one of these myself (I'd be really tempted if it became available). Doors and safety. It can go fast enough, it can take me and some gear or a friend, which is 90% of the miles I drive, and it has well over twice as much range as I need for those miles too. But how will it handle the arms race in vehicle weight and size? Cars are pretty safe, but bad drivers and heavy traffic render that only a little comforting. If everybody's vehicle was < 1500 lbs, we'd all be on fairly equal terms for the nearly inevitable accident, but if a 1200lb vehicle collides with one that's 5x the weight, how will it fair in a moderate-severe accident? It seems like the current arms race in America is to have a bigger car than most everyone on the road. Yeah, it sucks.

No mention in the interview of the number of pre-orders. With delivery starting momentarily, that can be an important number. I have no sense of recreational vehicle popularity in the marketplace, but the basic $12k vehicle seems right in there with various vehicles such as Polaris, et al. I don't follow the early responder logic, since as a non two wheeled vehicle, it can't really sneak through traffic any better than a car. The delivery market imo will be hot. All the big players are looking at some pretty exotic autonomous vehicles, and my guess is the regulatory and technology hurdles will keep that on go slow. Your basic minimum wage earner shuttling groceries, restaurant fare, pharmacy and what-not could be hugely cost effective compared to a Bosch or Renault robot. In the current state of the technology the robots are also not as timely as a human driver, and it will likely be quite some time before they become equally facile in navigating traffic like a human.

preoders were about 3,000+ as of last Q, have been growing steadily. that represents about $45M in revenue assuming a $15K ASP. no idea what end demand will be.

I first saw their cars at the LA Auto Show a few years back. I wish I had purchased their stock when it was around $3 a share. I think it's now around $5 a share. Looks like they're going to be shipping soon, no wonder their stock price went up.

Dude, watch the market. It dropped to $2.10 back in December when they were cash poor and the knee-jerkers started dumping shares. The same thing happened with Tesla during Model S ramp-up. I suspect it will happen again at least once more before breakeven.

Awesome interview and I love how you gave Mark the space to get his points across plus he seems like a pretty cool guy! Just curious as to what he meant when he said he closed all the escape hatches and if he had known that it would've been a ten year project he wouldn't have made it so far. What does he mean exactly by escape hatch in his context?

He explained this: an escape hatch would have been using investor capital instead of $2M of his own; plus he decided to retain control of, and run the company. He literally gave himself no other option to regain his investment than a successful launch. People forget, but Elon Musk did the same thing when he had trouble funding the Model S. I'm not a fan of how he summarily stacked the Tesla board and fired Martin Eberhard, but when he took/power-grabbed control of Tesla it stretched him to within a hair of insolvency just before launch. They say greatness comes not from a desire for success, but fear of failure.

Sorry, but I don´t see a true business case for this vehicle. It doesn´t have the flexibility and nimbleness of a bike, motor scooter or even a motor bike, because it is to wide and big. And it doesn´t have the hauling capacity of even a tiny car, because it is to small. With its open sides, it does not even shield you from the elements (even the "Evergreen"´s half doors won´t protect you sufficiently from harsh rain/snow or chilling winds). The Arcimoto combines the weaknesses of cars and bikes, not their strengths. While the initial analysis may be true, that most cars are underutilized most of the time, the conclusion does not consider the owner´s perspective. Most users want one vehicle that suites all needs combined. They want one car for shopping,traveling, daily job commute and short trips with friends/family. They cannot afford different vehicles for different purposes. And they want to be protected from winds, rains, and too low/high temperatures. Those people who want to feel the elements usually buy something with two wheels instead of three. Ironically, with its wide front axis and narrow cabin, the Arcimoto wastes quite a lot of space on the street and in the parking lot, hence it doesn´t solve the problem of underutilization. It just has empty space between the weels instead of empty seats.

Good points. Also have to mention grocery hauling as a shortcoming of the open-sided vehicle. But, I've seen a lot of motorcyclists who make do with much less. And they're quickly aging out of two-wheeled vehicles. Further, I think the price point chosen (essentially half a car) is made with this in mind. For those with larger lifestyle footprints, this would be their commuter, or maybe slap a surfboard on the side and slip into that last spot in the lot that is too narrow for a car. And think of millenials, who are determined NOT do do things the way their parents did. One quibble, hard- and soft-sided doors are currently options (second photo): @t Do your homework.

On top of that, most of the space in traffic doesn't go to the actual vehicle, but safety distance. If you want to reduce footprint per passenger, slow down traffic.. Public transport helps with that, because trains/trams have 500 meter to 5km long safety distances, but also pack a shitload of people.

The fact that the Evergreen will have half doors is not a big deal for the limited production it represents. The mass version will have complete doors and be able to be added to the Evergreen. The benefit of having a car that meets a majority of individuals to drive to work more efficiently than the smallest of electric cars. For me it will allow me to access HOV lanes as a motorcycle with no tolls because of that fact. Plus for someone used to riding all year long in all sorts of weather, to have the safety feature and stability for those commutes will be nice. even with half doors.

I still don't think they need to achieve these goals to be profitable or to justify a significantly higher valuation. Think resort/airport rental business. I would love to drive this on vacation.

Great review and interview Gali! But seriously who is going to pay 20k for this Arcimoto evergreen when you can buy a new model 3 for on only 15k more or a second hand model s for high 20's. Or a Prius for that price. Seems very overpriced compared to it's competitors to me.

I OWN A SHIRT BUSINESS IN BANGKOK SO I WOULD ALSO BE INTERESTED IN WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO START BUILDING THESE FOR THE ASIAN MARKET. WE HAVE BEEN BUYING THERE STUFF FOR SO MANY YEARS, I THINK IT'S TIME FOR THEM TO START TO BUY SOME OF OUR STUFF.
