Arcimoto SRK: a crazy, street-legal electric trike 

Followed and pulled next to one today in Vista, CA. I really like them! They really accelerate from a dead stop!

I love the idea, and the arcimoto looks great, but this video was 4 years ago and it’s still not available to the masses. I have seen too many of these cool 3 wheeled vehicle concepts that never ever seem to become a reality.

When it's speeding up at the end of the video, it sounds like there is a transmission(?) shifting gears. Is it actually shifting gears or is the driver just kind-of pumping the throttle?

Those types of vehicles throttled to up to 45 km/h are pretty common in Amsterdam (at least from what I noticed), because they are legally seen as a Moped, and thus are allowed to park pretty much everywhere, and drive on bike paths mostly.

This is something that I could see catching on. The only thing i would want is one with a heater for colder places such as Canada. Also the one thing I can't seem to find is a top speed for this vehicle so if anyone knows please let me know.

Amazing! Now you need a way people could transform the back for groceries, storage, puppy, and add on plastic side panels for weather.

What's the range expected on the production model?

No mention of a key area of performance: range. 70 miles or 130 miles with extended battery. Website says nothing about charging time, but a claim of 15 minutes/80% charged is floating around the Internet. I suspect that would be at a high current charging station, not your 110v at home.

Very cool, but like the Elio, I'm not holding my breath. I think it's way past time for a vehicle like this to fill a niche need for close to home errands and commuting. I'm driving an electric golf cart now, but limited to close to home streets, and it's not very fast. The SKR would be a viable vehicle to get me to appointments in a nearby city as well as for errands around my hometown. I'm assuming it will be classified as a motorcycle. I hope I live long enough to have the chance to buy one. I am a big fan of the Twizy too.

The dying in it is not a good argument, we literally have millions of motorcycles owners on the road. I'll much rather ride this than a motorcycle. And to think you only have that point of view because the vehicles in this country are way over sized in comparison to this. Look at almost every other country where most vehicles are around this size where a deadly accidents are significantly lower and only involve big industry work/transport trucks

Neat looking toy. I doubt it is safe to ride in. The seat belts are all wrong, no doors, the frame doesn't indicate it will protect the user(s) in a crash (head on, side ways, or rear). I thought the Smart for Two was cool until I saw how they blast apart in a crash test. I wonder how well this thing does in a crash test.

i dont get why people are saying this is safer than a motorcycle, the thing with motorcycles is that although you have no protection you gain agility. with this you have very minimal protection and the maneuverability of a car

They need to make a trailer full of solar panels that continues to power the vehicle as you drive. Even if you have to occasionally park to get a full charge that would be amazing. Have them send me the first set and I'll take it across the country.

Apart from it being electric, I don't really see the point of it as it takes up the same space as a small Car. Outside the USA, space is often limited on the roads in the Cities. People ride motorcycles so that they can get to their destinations by filtering past other traffic and not sit behind cars /buses / lorries etc in heavy traffic . Also, parking/ space is a premium and so the bike has to be as small as possible. So the electric bike has to be as narrow as a person on a bicycle, have a range of say 50 miles, between charges, be able to do 30 -50mph, be light, cheap, easy to maintain , sturdy, easy to park and go.

these cool, space-saving, energy efficient and saving vehicles can do so much to reduce environmental pollution, the governments of the world just need to get their right hands off their pathetic tools and start waking up to reality. Kudos to those manufacturers who make these machines.

In Georgia it would be registered as a motorcycle and require a helmet. Anything with less than 4 wheels is a motorcycle. If you could put a steering wheel on it then you would not need a helmet.
