jeremy a same man. I’ve meant to make an updated video of some other things I did that I wanted to talk about with the specific four wheeler I just haven’t got around to it
I have an '08 DVX 250 and recently tried to adjust the chain. I loosened the three bolts you mentioned, and when tightening them I broke the (3rd) bolt at the front of the caliper. Tried to torque it to 29ft lbs per manual, and it snapped. The bolt hole is threaded into the casting so the end broke deep inside. Tried to extract the stud, no luck so I had to drill and tap for a larger bolt. Not fun. For anyone doing this, I recommend replacing that bolt. Probably weakened it when I first loosened it. Just sharing my experience. Great video. Thanks
Rob Beaupre Funny story is when I got that four wheeler the bolt was already snapped off inside of it so I just completely drilled it out and went to my hardware store got a long enough bolt with a lock nut and tightened it down like that easy fix but yes pain in the butt !!!
I tried that as well, Joe. A thru bolt and nut, but the casting surface for mine wasn't flat and bent the bolt head :). So that's when I tapped for a new larger bolt. Another question if it's okay. Where you changed the gear oil, was there a different bolt you used to check the level? ie there's the fill plug bolt, the drain plug and a 3rd bolt?. Nevermind, I watched again and you said there was no bolt to check level. How did you know how much oil?
You're right, there is not much of an after market for the 250 dvx and finding replacement parts is an absolute nightmare but for what it's worth the kymco kxr 250 is the same bike with different plastic but most of the parts for those have to come from Germany
Joe, Thank you. 1) No filler hole/gear box: how did you decide on 1/2 quart? My 300 has no filler hole and I want to get it right also. Any specifics on how you decided or knew? 2) Great chain tip, mine was loose 3) Thanks for the coolant drain tip brother! 4) See #1 Thank you in advance sir, hope to hear back 🤞🏼
The motor oil is in the bottom of the engine almost in the center. Be careful when you take the nut out there will be a screen inside of it that is the filter there is no oil filter except that and tell me about it the only videos on these things are a couple of kids riding them around and that’s really yet parts are pretty scarce as well
Through study and research.. these are the exact thing as the kymco maxxer 300.. Mine says kymco on it under the seat and the rear sprocket.. Got the oil changed in mine now I need to do the transmission gear oil.. Just trying to figure out how much to put back in.. Manual on the kymco says .52 us qts. So I guess its half a quart ???
Hey is there anyway you could help guide me with an issue I'm having on a 2011 dvx300 I just picked? I can't find ANYTHING on it. I'm having an issue with nuetral light and reverse light staying on and on nuetral it revs great but when you put on drive it acts like it's on limp mode or as if it's in reverse. Your the only person that looks competent to answer my question. Even the forums are a hot mess on these quads. Thanks
Hi Joe, can you give me the link for the new carb or part number. I think it is made by KTM and branded as artic cat. It is marked on the top end. THANKS
Hey, Im doing a full tune up on 2007 DVX250 and I wanted to know what oil you put in there? I want to go Castrol full synthetic 4 cylinder oil. Before I do that, do you think I should do a regular oil flush the first time with sea foam because its been sitting for 5-7 years, same with the transmission too? the previous owner said he bearly drove it so i think there is still break in fluid in there. I have never rode it. It's been sitting at my dads house for a long time. I got it running, cleaned out the carb, bought a new UNI air filter. I just gotta do a oil change, transmission fluid change, rear diff fluid change, lube up chain, check the brake pads, fluid change on brakes and put a new CVT belt. This is my first time working on a ATV.
Navneel Nand I wouldn’t put seafoam or anything like that and it man. I stick true to Yama lube in all my ATVs. What do you mean by changing the oil in the rear differential? I would drain the existing oil and then fill it with nice fresh stuff. Run the motor for about three or four minutes drain that and fill it one last time also clean your oil screen and everything out. No need to run any marine additive into your ATV oil no way there was that much water in it unless he’s swamped it. Pull your gas line off the petcock let that gas drain out put some nice new non-ethanol in it flush your oil a few times same with your gear oil and it will be good to go
What year of Kawasaki KLX 300 did you get the front sprocket for, also how did you figure that out? I want to do the same thing because they are so slow!
@@joebeales7227 when I looked online 4 KLX 300 sprocket they were different 97 through 02 and 2003 through 07 were different I ended up putting a 400 dvx rear 42 tooth sprocket on the rear I had to make it fit but it made a big difference also you can take the spacer out between the clutch pulley that will give you a little more talking and Power I found that trick online
@@caseyhampton931 Yeah I thought that spacer was only on the smaller models I didn’t think the bigger engines had that spacer but I didn’t do too much research on it I just worked on it myself the research I did was looking for parts and realizing there was literally no aftermarket stuff for these quads . I ended up selling it 6 months ago
There really isn’t one when you drain the oil you will see that there’s a screen that’s going to come out with the oil drain plug that’s going to be your filter
@@vb5037 yeah There really was no aftermarket parts for it but once you get it running good I think they are pretty dependable. I honestly sold all of my four wheeler’s just because they did more sitting than I would’ve liked so the worst thing you can do to any vehicle is let it sit around
It was my girlfriend’s wheeler. I have a big boat as well and when the weekends came it would be boat vs 4 wheelers and the boat always won . They just sat around
Good for a beginner/ early teen . Not if your looking to rip crazy . Top speed I’d say is 40 ish . There safe though and seem to be durable. I sold mine a while ago
@@joebeales7227 hey I have looked everywhere and I just can’t seem to find fenders and plastic because am trying to redo mine it would mean a lot if you could tell me where you got your plastics redone.
@@porterflanders5337 I actually redid mine myself real light sandpaper I sanded all the scuffs out and I repainted them but I was a painter for a long time as well industrial/auto painter
