these two songs have a very poignant view on a police officers life. dealing with teenagers being teenagers. drinking and thinking they know everything, being sarcastic and disrespectful, and also dealing with more troubled kids doing drugs, stealing cars, crashing and having to call the fire department to deal with the mangled cars and bodies all in the same week. Alex Turner is a brilliant thinker and writer. especially at such a young age when this was written..
So stupid and funny the fact that, the night after I crashed while driving with four friends of mine I discovered this song and made an IG story with my car and the song playing im the background. Btw, we were luckily all safe and sound, nobody was harmed.
im here, 5 years after you commented, currently 1AM, i am behind on my coursework, pulling an all nighter to try and catch up, listening to these banger AM songs
e got thrown in a riot van And the coppers kicked him in And there was no way he could win Just had to take it on the chin Smoked a bong a last night And stole somebody's telephone He thinks it's all alright But they've left him on his own, on his own But baby stop calling Over and over yeah And give me some funny cigarettes And do what they told you, yeah Pinched a car with one headlight And lost control the passengers were screaming Made him shut his eyes right tight And think of you, and hope that he was dreaming Then up rolled the riot van And called the fire brigade But it was already too late And there was no arrests to make Ohhhhh! But baby stop calling Over and over yeah And give me some funny cigarettes And do what they told you, yeah
Beneath the boardwalk is one of the best things the monkeys made. I loved the album version of riot van but this actually is better. The lyrics are just better!
Nope, this is a sequal to the studio version of Riot Van,the Riot Van on the album talks about how teenagers feel about cops, saying why cops arrest abunch of harmless drunks and pot smokers instead of 'proper crooks',and at the end of the song one of the kids end up being caught by the cops and picked up in their vehicle to prison. This version picks up right after the studio version, so this one is more first person than the other.
Sorry producers but you screwed this one up with the "radio version," same thing with the other songs in this album. Such a missed opportunity but glad to have this album on RU-vid! Maybe it's better these song didn't become hits anyway...
Smoked a bong last night and stole somebody's telephone He thinks it's all alright but they've left him on his own, on his own And baby stop calling, over and over yeah And gimme some funny cigarettes, and do what they told you Pinched a car with one headlight and lost control the passengers were screaming Made him shut his eyes right tight and think of yer and hope that he was dreaming Then up rolled the riot van and called the fire brigade but it was already too late and there was no arrest to make ohh! But baby stop calling, over and over yeah And gimme some funny cigarettes, and do what they told you .
he got thrown in a riot van and the coppers kicked him in and there was no way he could win just had to take it on the chin smoked a bong last night and stole somebody's telephone he thinks it's all alright but they've left him on his own on his own but baby stop calling over and over yeah? gimme some funny cigarettes and do what they told you, yeah pinched a car with one headlight lost control, the passengers were screaming made him shut his eyes real tight and think of you and hope that he was dreaming then up rolls the riot van and called the fire brigade but it way already too late ow but baby stop calling over and over, yeah? gimme some funny cigarettes and do what they told you, yeah
always preferred this song to the version that made it to the album. maybe because it is so heavily from the perspective of someone who has had multiple run-ins with the law. it really fits that "partying and fucking up your life because there's nothing better to do" theme the rest of Whatever... has.
We got thrown in a riot van And the coppers kicked him in And there was no way he could win Just had to take it on the chin Smoked a bong a last night And stole somebody's telephone He thinks it's all alright But they've left him on his own, on his own But baby stop calling Over and over yeah And give me some funny cigarettes And do what they told you, yeah Pinched a car with one headlight And lost control the passengers were screaming Made him shut his eyes real tight And think of you, and hope that he was dreaming Then up rolled the riot van And called the fire brigade But it was already too late And there was no arrests to make Ohhhhh! But baby stop calling Over and over yeah And give me some funny cigarettes And do what they told you, yeah
Pinched a car with one headlight and lost control, the passengers were screaming. Made him shut his eyes reet tight and think of you, and hope that he was dreaming. Then up rolled the riot van and called the fire brigade, but it was already too late and there was no arrests to make. Oh… But baby stop calling over and over, yeah, and give me some funny cigarettes and do what they told you, yeah. Oh.
Up rolls a riot van And sparks excitement in the boys But the policemen look annoyed Perhaps these are ones they should avoid Got a chase last night From men with truncheons dressed in hats We didn't do that much wrong Still ran away though, for the laugh Just for the laugh And please just stop talking 'Cause they won't find us if you do Oh, those silly boys in blue Well, they won't catch me and you "Have you been drinking, son? You don't look old enough to me" "I'm sorry, officer Is there a certain age you're supposed to be? 'Cause nobody told me" And up rolls the riot van And these lads just wind the coppers up They ask why they don't catch proper crooks They get their address and their names took But they couldn't care less Thrown in the riot van And all the coppers kicked him in And there was no way he could win Just had to take it on the chin
