This is a video tribute depicting the various scenes of an interesting and recent villain from my memories, the manipulative immortal and harbinger of destruction, Ardyn Izunia aka Ardyn Lucius Caelum (voiced by Darin De Paul) from the 2016 game Final Fantasy XV. I adored Darin's performance as well as Ardyn's intention to get revenge on the world and the gods that caused him so much suffering and endless loss. He showed how evil can be guided by unbearable loss and the feeling that committing evil is all that is left in one's life when nothing else works. Apologies for the change in quality for the video, it's a little choppy and I needed to piece some plot points in order so you guys can understand what Ardyn wanted and why. Hope you enjoy!

Bahamut dodged righteous retribution. If the DLCs hadn’t been canceled, people would have pressed all of the buttons possible to take him down and everyone would have lived happily ever after.

From his introduction until his final breath Ardyn became instantly my favourite video game villain of this generation. His backstory was tragic, his rage understandable and made his fall from grace even more heartbreaking. He is the perfect examble of a victim of fate (seriously fuck the gods in this game) and even if you are not agree with his actions its hard not to feel compassion for the character. Also the guy has so much personality he steals every scene he is in. A worthy addition to the final fantasy villain gallery that gave us classics like Kefka, Kuja Sephiroth, Caius and so many more.

I beleve the final fantasy villains gallery have incredible characters to play the part. Some more succesful than others. Now both Sephiroth and Kefka are fantastic top tier villains on the franchise and its difficult to pick the best but for me nostalgia based is Sephiroth, but from accomplishment based is Kefka hands down!!!!
@cherryshark9170
@cherryshark9170 3 года назад
I think might been harsh when i called Sephiroth a joke. overrated might be a more accurate statement plus with Kefka the characters didn't take him as a threat which you the player at first agreed with until you see some of things he does later
@mrhide1002
@mrhide1002 3 года назад
@@cherryshark9170 yes his overexposure hurt his character i can see where you are coming from. Also from the start ff7 builds him as this overwhelming threat so the expectations keep on going further. In contrast Kefka was presented as a joke character (a jester of sorts) that we fight and defeat many times throught the ff6 story so when the twist comes is presented as if WTF just happen moment when he basically just.... wins actually. So yeah both have their strenght and weaknesses but i will agree Kefka is better. Sephiroth is just a little more iconic because of the game he is in.

Ardyn is one of my more enjoyable villains. I equate his rage to Darth Vader and Davy Jones. His entire life is just pain and misery; literally all he can do is make as many people share in his pain until he’s cut down.

Indeed, he really showed no matter how deeply sympathetic an evil character is, sometimes the best way to help them is just to put them down, Ardyn is one such example.

EmptyMan000 one counter argument here, This is Final Fantasy, there are gods, and those gods caused this entire tragedy. Their plan is almost a textbook copy of how Kreia perceives how the Force’s will for balance is enacted, through oceans of blood and planets worth of mangled metal just to realize their plan. What I’m saying is, they’re almost evil gods when presented to the lens of the Internet, and by FF standards the gods are super evil. So why aren’t they persecuted for their horrific machinations?
@EmptyMan000
@EmptyMan000 4 года назад
@@Eckskalibur That's not a counter argument, that's a question of deserved punishment. They were supposed to be punished and technically considering that a couple of gods (Ifrit and Shiva) die within the story and the rest end up serving mankind, they do face some punishment. Bahamut, the one behind it all was supposed to die, but the writers didn't display that ending.

Evil or not, he never wanted to become a mobster in the first place. The Gods made it so that he would be destined to suffer. Look I know he committee terrible crimes but you even you have to admit, he did not deserve to go through this shit.
@EmptyMan000
@EmptyMan000 4 года назад
@@tayojones9460 Of course he didn't deserve it. Though his undeserved status doesn't rectify all the death and suffering he caused in his desire for revenge. He was an innocent man who became a monster and the monster needed to die, if not for the sake of the world than for Ardyn to have peace.

Not quite what I was thinking but still a great title! Ardyn really does carry this game as a great antagonist.

Ardyn is one of my all-time favorite villains. I'm always a sucker for tragic characters like him. The only thing is that I wish his motivations were a bit more clear. It felt like they changed certain things along the way regarding his lore and the reasoning for his actions. In episode Ardyn, they provide two endings --- one where Ardyn accepts his fate so he can die and get the vengeance he wants on the Lucians. And one where he decides to defy fate and humiliate the Gods by becoming powerful enough to destroy Noctis. It seems that the DLC wants us to accept the ending where he submits to fate as the canon ending and the one where he defies fate as the Dawn of the Future ending. But Ardyn makes some very specific comments in the game's Pocket Edition and in the Ignis DLC that call this into question. In the Pocket Edition, they add dialogue during the final battle where he rages at Noctis for defeating him, saying "I hate you with all of my being," because he was so close to having his "perfect revenge." Then, in the Ignis DLC, he reveals to Ignis that he really doesn't care about Noctis and isn't interested in punishing him so much as the Crystal that cast him aside. And if he wanted to punish the Crystal/Gods all along, it wouldn't make sense for him to take the exact route that they want him to take. It all makes me wonder if I'm missing something or if the developers just couldn't decide on Ardyn's motives. Because if you go with the explanation that he actually just wanted to die and couldn't let go of the grudge against his brother, it means Ardyn is one of the few villains who actually won and got what he wanted. But most of the other evidence doesn't seem to suggest that, and actually points to the possibility that Ardyn had grander goals and wanted to stick it to the Gods by beating Noctis and plunging the world into eternal darkness. Some have made the argument that the Episode Ardyn DLC isn't really canon due to some of the discrepancies in the lore, but I've probably spent more time than I should trying to make sense of it all. lol.

Ardyn was destined to be an evil immortal. He was merely a pawn to the gods. He was so sad that he felt great pain and suffering, and then he got worse.

@EmptyMan000
@EmptyMan000 4 года назад
@@tayojones9460 Indeed and I'll speak for myself on that topic. Zuko's relationship with his uncle alone and development may constitute a hero video though. After sometime I couldn't even call him an antihero, just a misguided hero looking for acceptance from the wrong people and then realizing his folly to accept the proper path. Especially in that despite his troubles and betrayals, he didn't actually do direct harm to the protagonists. If anything he helped them out even before joining them.

I liked some parts of it, but the storytelling as a whole had a lot of needed improvement. For one, cohesiveness. Too much splitting here and there. Made it chaotic to follow.

At least Adryn was the saving grace. Out of curiosity, who is your favourite Final Fantasy villain?
@EmptyMan000
@EmptyMan000 4 года назад
@@tayojones9460 My favorite is Vayne Solidor from FFXII. As a villain in terms of effectiveness, motive, and execution, he excelled on all fronts. He managed to free the world and Mankind from the unseen manipulations of the godlike Occuria, eliminated the political corruption within Archadia by making himself the sole ruler and eliminating all opposition, and unite the world under a singular reign. The final step included his own death and passing of the torch to his kinder saavy brother Larsa since he knew he was far too corrupted and bloodstained to rule a peaceful world free of gods. All that through wit, guile, and some help from a rogue Occuria and a hefty supply of magitek. He was essentially a self-sacrificial Darth Sidious and did what Ardyn Izunia wanted to, being free of gods and reigning supreme, but failed. His plans were so solid the heroes of the story carried them out willingly even after he died.
