We do not celebrate birthdays, our predecessors never made it a big thing, why must we? It also encourages Mawlid / b'idah. Furthermore, blowing candles and making wish, stems from paganism. Muslims shouldn't do these cult acts, and making wish isn't of islam. We should make dua instead, Inshaa Allah. Yes, we must be proud of Islam, our Fridays, our Eids. Or else we would slowly forget our Islamic roots and confuse the next generation nauthubillah. We need to be firm and straight. But also know how to have fun within halaal boundaries without losing our integrity.

Let me educate you. Applying mehendi was once a religious ritual among certain hindus in the far east. Now it's a part of Bangladeshi culture to apply it in weeding. Even the strictest scholars don't consider it haram. Plus, if we judge everything by the origins then poof poof goes your own culture entirely. You'll have absolutely nothing left to identify yourself as a native if your land unless your entire lands changes at the same time for the religion. Dumb argument at best.

1- yes, celebrating with close family is fine 2- Candles on a cake is not allowed. It is imitating the non beleivers when they blow out the candles to make a wish which is not allowed 3- its a tough question to answer, some scholars say no and some say yes. However as the saying goes “if in doubt, leave it alone”. If you see people celebrating at the displeasure of allah swt, like playing music, dancing, free mixing etc then stay away from it. @@bintehajera4704 Quran an Sunnah are silent about these celebrations. Personal Birthday celebrations would come under customary or worldly acts and rulling would depend the way you celebrate. If it's associated with sinful activities or unlawful immitiation of non-muslims like blowing candles and making wish then it is forbidden. But the celebration in it self does not have any proof from the Quran and Sunah to say it's prohibited. The hadith about the celebrations of 2 Eids only is referring to religious public celebration and not personal customary celebrations that we do as pointed out by other scholars because in personal celebration - there are many types celebrations such wedding/graduation/celebrations of unions of friends ...etc even religious personal celebration we do such as - birth of child and Completing Quran. However, I do believe it's somewhat dislik to celebrate your Birthday as you are getting closer to death. But to say it's prohibited requires clear proof from the Quran and Sunnah - which in this case is non-existent. Ibn Taymiyyah wrote: With regard to customs, they are things that people are used to doing in their worldly affairs. The basic principle concerning them is that they are not forbidden. Nothing of that is forbidden except what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden. That is because commands and prohibitions have to do with the religion of Allah, and acts of worship must necessarily be enjoined. If something is not proven to have been enjoined, then how can it be deemed an act of worship? The candles and singing are haram because it’s pagan magic and bacteria gets on the cake. But just have a cake and a small party is fine

Different people have different reasons. Some celebrate for surviving a year of hardships or they celebrate achievements of that year. When there is difference of opinion available we need to respect that inshaAllah.

@@ozzieone16 The hadith you are referring is talking about "Public Holiday" and not "personal holiday", also it is is referred to religuous holiday. We have wedding, Aqeeqah, graduation ceremony celebration - which is nothing wrong with it.

Oh boy, do I have an explanation for you. In the subcontinent, there's a tradition to make designs in the hands of the bride using henna in a certain pattern. It came straight from a worship tradition of hindus. Yet the strict scholars that bring up origins of certain things don't care about that. The days of the weeks are a form of veneration to the greek gods since it was a part of the worship. The letter T is a veneration to the Christian cross. If you judge everything by the origins, you'll have to resort to basically Arab traditions only. Otherwise, you can't live up to what you preach. Unless you decide to pick and choose. You have to apply the ruling regardless you like it or not. Not when you feel like it. Do some research on your own culture and you'll find many many things have pagan origins. If you wanna male birthdays haram then you'll have to live up to this opinion yourself. That means giving up a lot of things in your culture. Next time you're gonna use the origin card, make sure you have given up your culture cause your people probably weren't Muslims before so you're imitating pagans in a sense.

That the companions and other pious predecessors did not celebrate it is evident enough. Citing English as an example in this kinda of situation is the dumbest reference I've ever heard, Language has nothing to do with religion, it's only a means of communication. The only significant trace of birthday in Islam is the hadeeth your sheikh quoted in the video, and with that, you should fast on your birthdays as the prophet did in his days. عليه الصلاة والسلام

@@ozzieone16 The max you can say it's dislike, or when it goes outside the boundaries of Islam it's unlawful, otherwise to claim that it's prohibited in of itself needs evidence from the sacred text. Remember we are taking about personal Birthdays and not prophet (saw)'s Birthday. The two are bot not the same, one is done as a customery naturure without seeking nearness of Allah/blessings and the other is done with intention of seeking blessings and nearness. Golden principle: In worldly or customary matters everything is lawful unless there is text to prove unlawful. When it comes to worship matters everything has to be specified.
