Are Borderlands Fans TOO HARSH? 

The Borderlands community is arguably not harsh enough. Too many people are perfectly content with whatever slop Gearbox puts out.

Something that nobody really seems to talk about is how Fight for Sanctuary dlc was somewhat of a preview of loot in bl3 every boss dropped like 2+ legendaries which at the time seemed cool but became extremely boring when every boss did that in bl3 and they also introduced power crept versions of like a dozen items from the base game which is just like how you were saying that bl3's dlcs had power crept versions of base game items

Learned my lesson when buying BDL3 "super deluxe edition" in pre order for over 120$ (canadian), it was buggy and unstable as hell just to see the same game at 25$ a year later. I will buy BDL4, but at least one year after it goes out... u_u

I think your pretty much right on the money with this vid. A lot of Borderlands fans are more frustrated then harsh. That being said though I have seen a few cases of people saying that games like Bl3 and Wonderlands are AWFUL games, which really is not true. Like you can have your opinion on the games and both have a plethora of issues but to call them objectively bad games because you didn't like the story or endgame direction is a little harsh. I have seen cases as well of people hating on others just for their opinions of liking one game over the other, which leans more into a toxic positivity side that now comes baked in with every fandom.

I really hope that we are all wrong on BL4 and by some miracle gearbox drops the BL4 that the fans want and surpasses BL2 and is amazing we can only hope

When bl2 was the only game I rarely ran into rude people, the rudest thing was a guy saying I'm trash at the game for using a lvl 50 with modded a gun even tho I was helping my low lvl friend and it was just a skull masher but a different skin

Ok let me preface this by saying I dislike how the borderlands series is going but I liked all of the quality of life and gunplay changes in 3. I just hope that 4 can combine the positive aspects of 2 and 3 in a way that will create something new and completed when it is released.

I think it's mindnumbingly boring, and I only do it when I absolutely have to. Clappy's stash works great the rest of the time. If all people want is to be able to farm a certain boss, and to basically do it on autopilot, then why the hell do they even care if the story is good or not. Tho borderlands has not been focused on its story it is still incredibly important for replayability. If you have a bad story i.g bl3 you dont want to replay it, which you cant anyways but besides the point. One of my favorite things in bl2 is replaying the story in tvh uvh with better gear and different enemies :)

Hells yeah another great video man!! I think you should make a video on what might Gearbox do for a reboot for the series, bc I think it could be a hella interesting premise. For example Gearbox could flush out the first game's story or go in a totally (hopefully not terrible) direction and add a difficulty system (like normal, hard, and impossible), plus new rarities, expanded zones, and maybe add more than the original Vault Hunters to the list of characters to play as! The possibilities could be endless and could create a new solid fanbase while bringing back the old true Borderlands players/community

NO! In my opinion, the Borderlands franchise has changed between BL-TPS and Borderlands 3. As I have said before Randy Pitchford is now all about the DEI nonsense. And that has ruined the Borderlands franchise. Borderlands 2 is the absolute pinnacle of the Borderlands franchise, BL3 was a severe disappointment, thus the Borderlands franchise has been ruined. I have yet to fully watch the video (watching and listening while formatting this comment), but I did want to comment on this. I think they are not harsh enough to Gearbox and too harsh on each other. There is a lot of grouping and infighting against each other when we need to work together to make Borderlands great again! I think Matpat left us with a good message with his leaving of Game Theory that could help the community a lot if everyone at least read what he had to say about life and how it works. I am currently formulating a more articulate paper on my thoughts here with this, although idk if I'll ever finish it. The more news and information that comes out about what is happening has made me lose motivation to continue writing it.

Borderlands was never really about the story, it was about all the guns, all I'd want from a new Borderlands game is some incredible weapons that feel fun to use, and decent (action) skills that can synergize well with them, it's okay to criticize the shortcomings of each game. we should have refarmable bosses on day 1 and some entertaining end game content, the dlc's should be fun too and we need dlc characters again, the 4 of the past (Jack, Aurelia, Gaige and Krieg), they're all fun in their own unique way with their playstyles.

The only thing i didn't like about 2 was the slag mechanic I think they just need to rebalance it as it takes the joy out of new weapon set ups when you only have a few guns that work well on op levels

The only thing killing borderlands like other great games like COD, Battlefield, and halo is that the developers force the game to be something that it’s not and never should be. I grew up with borderlands 2 and played it since I was 9 and now I’m 18 going to 19. Borderlands 3 was the only game I waited for the n the series and I was Disappointed. The kind in which you play it for like 3 replays and you realize how bad it was. I’ve played b2 for 9 years and I still go back and play but I suffer to get excited about b3 and replay it. There are certain things I like about it that I wish come back like the vehicle fast travel, the legendary indication on the map, and how all game collectible are marked on the map. But the story and farms were absolutely horrendous. I think that b3’s story is slightly salvageable but I would be fine with the game leaving off of the end of the pre sequel because I was definitely crossed with how it was just ignored.

Great job with the video. Are we too harsh? Did gears pay content creators to attack people who critique the game? Did gears make a movie that dismisses the source material? Did gears make borderlands games that we didn't want like tales or wonderland? If the answer is yes then not only were we not harsh....gears is freaking lucky we haven't given them complete silence. The fact that we seem harsh means we are still hoping for a good game...and one that they could EASILY do....if they WANT to.

IDK man, the #1 thing I hear people say about future Borderlands is, "don't bring back Handsome Jack." But between an AI Jack from TFTBL and Timothy slowly become more like Jack I think it could be a good idea. Definitely NOT the main antagonist but Jack should be a mainstay in the series somehow, you know who shouldn't come back, surprise, it's actually not Ava, it's Lilith. Lilith is gone but unfortunately will probably not stay gone and she's been unintentionally written as a horrible person for awhile. She either needs to be the next antagonist or not come back at all and Gearbox doesn't have the balls to do either.

BL1 was unique and fun when it first came out BL2 improved on it and was awesome. BL3 was pretty bad and it definitely went backwards. I really hope BL4 will be good but I just can’t see it happening!!!

You might not want to say it but I will.... Borderlands blew up because of dedicated loot farming. Borderlands' story is okay but it never needed to be anything more than a conduit for gameplay. As it almost always is in games of consequence.

I am one of those who dont like spending time farming gear,that isnt where the fun is for me,however,i too think that Borderlands 3 has little too many legendaries and they dont feel as special when you do get them. As for borderlands 4,if it even will be released,it wont last long.

I am one of the few people that wants a good story. BL3 was a shitshow. The writing can be good. It makes it more tolerable for me to play it multiple times. If the writing is shit like Wonderlands, it becomes a one and done experience for me. With BL3 the 2nd and 3rd Acts were poorly written. BL4 may be more of the same.

I think that calling fans too harsh beacame tipically a state that every game firm employed to qualify the exigency of those who are day one players....and first clients. For my point of view of long time gamer of BL2 , how could not i have full of expectations and demands when i saw the ending of Borderlands 2 for example, to have BL3 that disappoints me in so many aspects ? Sorry but I'm that player that doesn't care about dedicated loot drops...not even sure I exactly knows what that means. I just enjoy these games for the gunplay and going thru them with the different vault hunters and their special abilities.

I just want a fun, new game that's actually, yk, fun and new. I don't think that's an unreasonable request for a franchise like BL. I do like the idea of a reboot. The lore, aesthetic and plot elements are a bit scattered atm. I think a reboot would be a great opportunity to refine the world of BL to create a more cohesive experience, take the best elements from each game, maybe create a Feige-esque roadmap of where they want to take the franchise. I don't think we necessarily need a redo of what has come before, though (plots, characters). BL3 greatly expanded the potential of what can be done, so many elements to explore, and I'd love to see future games dig into that more.

A reboot would do wonders just for the love of *god* dont follow the shitty Saints Row path en just straight up ruin a franchise that did wonders I would care less if they remaster Borderlands 1 but added more voice lines or smoother game play like Borderlands 2 who knows maybe they can make Moxxi Underdome alot better then it is there alot of great potential but the devs shouldn't let greed get in the way of that

I love bl2, im okay with bl3, bl3 brought good stuff like QoL changes, but i think that if gearbox were to combine the 2, it would be a great game, but that wouldn't happen, as i personally think that there is no where that the borderlands story can go sadly, but i hope (and praying) that gearbox gets their shit together, and makes a good game for once in the last decade

Borderlands 2's story was meh. What made it stand out above what it really was was Handsome Jack himself. Between the voice actor and the way the character was written, he MADE the story greater than the sum of its parts. The Calypso twins were a lame joke that could have been easily tweaked to be great. Gearbox just fumbled it.

Yeah I really ain't interested in 4 solely because Gearbox isn't gonna learn. They're gonna keep bringing up Handsome Jack in order to ride on those coattails, they're gonna keep riding on Tiny Tina's hype and making annoying child charactres. 3 had some good shit, like multiple skills per character, but like no DLC characters really kills some of that for me. Because Borderlands 2 and TPS' DLC characters were absolutely amazing. My BL4 wishlist for characters, or maybe dlc characters? But like I want a leach siren. Tyreen is dead, thank the gods..... So that power is being given to someone else. I feel like a leach siren could be a ranged version of Krieg. I actually proposed an idea to my group about a potential playable leach siren who was a mid to close range black knight style class. Where she had 3 different action skills, one created a nova around her, one created a line in front of her, and another was focused on one enemy. You could hold down the button to charge the skill, and it would drain your HP, BUT it'd deal wicked damage to things based on the HP. You take THIS concept, and then mix it with someone who has a skill like Maya and Roland where shooting your friends heals them, you have potential for an awesome co-op experience. Side tangent, I played Maya and Krieg with my brother. So He played Krieg in the most chaotic and powerful way, and I was getting damn good at Maya during that time. I never really felt that level of synergy with characters in 3. Everyone feels so independent. Moze's one and only skill that seems to benefit co-op is entirely useless past like level 15.

Of course the real fans are going to be critical with their expectations. From q Gearbox standpoint You don't want a game that comes out and retires everyone's hope in the Borderlands franchise entirely because most of us are on the edge of bailing out anyways. There are a few other good games out there some of us have yet to try out. Will definitely head tf on out of this fanatical Borderlands phase yo. It betta be jamming. Personally I think so. There have been issues with the games for sure but honestly the community itself has done more to "ruin" the series for me than anything else. So many in the community are incessantly negative and that's just not my style when it comes to gaming. I want to enjoy the good and take my mind off life, not fixate on negativity and bashing those that don't agree.

I believe they took money from that Embracer group that recently dropped Gearbox, and the movie, BL3, NTFTBLs and TTW was part of the deal. That's why they all are shit. BL3 was already happening before Covid. Stands to reason why it's not as terrible as the later 3 projects. Now that all those projects are done, they parted ways. Maybe Gearbox can stand on their own feet now. There's still hope. Of course we are harsh. We love the wacky world of Borderlands. Who else could fill this void in the gaming landscape!? No other franchise is tastefully inclusive as Borderlands. Borderlands was inclusive before it was even trendy to be inclusive. Art style, content, game mechanics, story, humor, loot, classic rpg class system all rolled into one. Nobody does it better. And for God's sake, the rocking roll intros and music selection is top notch. We can't lose this. It will be devastating to the community. So much nerd culture is being corrupted. Marvel, Starwars and so much more. Soon, there won't be anything left.

i just want to say i love bl3 (with a 1000 hrs in it) but i do not know why you hate on it so much if it is the story you are talking about i do have to agree it is the worst in the series right next to new tales, though imo worst gameplay in the series is wonderland which I'm pretty sure we never got dedicated loot sources for that game and chaos chambers and loot bunnies definitely didn't help with that and those shit "plcs" didn't either, and i would want to talk about bl2 abit and why i dislike farming in that game lets say i want to get a unkempt harold it would take 30 secs to drive to lee and kill him and with it being a 10% to drop i would have to farm him for about 5 mins , now into bl3 i where i go into dlc3 and go to the dedicated loot source i would kill caber dowd i would spawn from the new-u above him drop down kill him and it being a 33% to drop from him it'll be 1 min to get one (this isn't the best to comparison) but what i mean about this is if bl2 had better drop chances i would enjoy it more tho im not saying it is bad.
