I agree 100% with you!! just one thing: brazilians are much more nationalistic than people think... so it's not just because of the "image the world has of latins", it's also because brazilians are very proud of their country, and are always wearing t-shirts Brazilians and talk about Brazil when "out" (travelling). Other territories that speak French in the Americas are Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Saint Barthélemy, and Saint Martin (all overseas territories like French Guiana, the only independent country that speaks French in the Americas is Haiti). French is also the official language of Canada and about 20% of inhabitants have it as their first language. Some people think that even Canada should be considered Latin America.

Definitely they are all Latin languages! But the intention of the video it’s to explain the stereotypes of the term as many people confuse “Latino” with a person who speaks Spanish and is from Latin America. “Least” Latino on the title has the irony as many latinos don’t consider themselves Latinos (even though all of them are Latinos)

Latino is best described as a subracial identity. And Italians, Haitians, and Quebecoi are definitely not considered latino. Haiti has no relation to its spanish neighbors intermingling as its always had a very strong French identity along with the Quebecoi. Latino isn't about its relation to the romance languages. Its line is directly linked to Spain which is what makes Brazil distinct as a Portugese colony turned Portugese speaking nation.

(Im Brazilian and i don't speak spanish so i gonna answer you in english) I think actually we are a lot influenced by America, and yeah we have a huge tendency for isolationsm, but i think that what divide us culturally is not just the language or the superficial stuff, in Brazil we have 16 portuguese dialects, also the country is so big and diverse that each one of the 5 regions and each one of the 27 states have cultural diferences, i am from Rio and most of brazilians stereotypes came from my city more specifically south side Rio or "white side" Rio because is the most white region on my city, 80% of the south side population is white for been more precise. But since from the beginnig we consider ourselves Brazilians and ethnically from our states or citys, like im am ethnically carioca that mean im from the metropolitan region of Rio. Latino America conception and stereotypes came all from America thats true, but the idea that most spanish speaken countries have of being part of a bigger thing and similar backgrounds and cultural bonds should be considerate, not many years ago you all were part of the nation/colony, spanish American, and Brazil because of the difficult terrain in south America just had cultural exchange with Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, mostily for war, Uruguay was a Brazilian state so the culture in south Brazil and uruguai is not so diferent, Paraguay... we destroy them literally, Argentina we fight against Argentina in so many blood wars that i dont even remember. And right know because of geopolitacal reasons they kinda need us. Brazil started being called a latino country by ignorance and arrogancy of the Americans, and in the 60s we recogonize that paper in the geopolitical context as the leader of the contnent economically, military and culturally because even combining all the other countries population the Brazilian population is still bigger, so being called the latin "america leader" not just give more political power to us but also give us an opportunity to do what every big powerfull country do... being imperialist, if you look the south american economy and politcal context in the last 50 years you gonna see that everything Brazil do the other countries follow, the south american countries depend on us, with the Brazilian economy go down all the south american economy go to, if the brazilian economy go up again all the south american economy go up to, but if the Argentinian economy go down or the colombian or the venezuelan... the Brazilian economy skyrocket, look like we buying things with discount, if you a south american your car, your medicene your soundbox your phone your laptop propably is "Made in Brazil" we buy 80% of everything the mercosul countries export using brazilian Reais, and the brazilian goverment have investments in south american countries, so the south american debt with Brazil is huge, so for us for we also see you not ass one thing but we dont see us in latinos. Latin America concept for many populist leaders is use ass a idea of multinationalism and ultranationalism in spanish speaken countries, your cultural bonds still are very strong, and we actually never had those bonds, in brazil the same ideology is use for trying to create a single one national identity and promote soft power in south american countries, also for kinda of mute the racial tension, Brazil is actually, the third blackest nation on earth, 57% of all brazilians are black, 11% dark skin and 46% brown skin, and those people, my people are the poorest people in the country and the racism in the country against black people is worse than the in America and Europe( things are change for good on this context but still bad). For the Brazilian national security and economic prosperity we need control and take care of south american countries, because if you put you tiny regionalist cultural diferences apart and rise togheter as a single nation again, them... we fucked😂. So latin america never was a idea about " they are live in the americans and speak a latin based language" was walways about, "we were colonize by the same guys, we have a very similar culture and we share a lot cultural values". That ideology came even way before y'all started being called latinos. If the central america unify again tomorrow no one gonna be surprised, if argentina and chile unify ither. Brazilian people never were latinos, and we never gonna be, we are more athachet to the losophone countries like Angola, Mozambique, Guine Bissau, Cape Verde, Portugal and São Tomé and Principe they consume our culture and we are the product of there culture mix, we mostly descent from them, Capoeira, Samba came from Angola and Congo, my acent my dialect have a huge influency from the Kimbundu language. @@edomartins Bem, tecnicamente sim, se seguirmos o termo latino básico. Mas mtn latino não significa uma pessoa que fala uma língua que deriva do latim, mas também uma pessoa que nasceu na América LATINA e que tem cultura latino-americana. Falo mais pelos hispânicos.

Already there is no such thing as a race. All humans on Earth are of the same race. Then Latin American culture sort of exists. But rather for Hispanics especially in music. This is why unfortunately the majority of Brazilians do not feel Latin because they have their own music but also the language which is different.

@@D.Harlley It's that simple: If I go to Brazil (Rio, Sao Paulo, Manaus, the South of Brazil) I feel at home, I feel easily in any place in Colombia: the food, the music, the climate, the way of being of the people... everything, EVERYTHING becomes familiar to me. If I go to Chile, everything seems much more different. I say this from experience because I have done it and all my Colombian friends who have visited Brazil, and Brazilians who have visited Colombia say exactly the same thing.

What a great example! I never even thought about this comparison and you are totally right! That’s a very good point about what happens between terms, culture and geography, as I use to say “Latinos are all Americans”. But each area has an individual term or definition. As you said “sounds weird calling Canadians by Americans”, would be also weird saying “Quebec” is Latino as it’s a French speaking area. Anyway, thanks a lot for your reflection!
